Abstract

The research of sadsorption of Mg(II) ions on coal bottom ash as adsorbent has been carried out. The research was conducted by activating the coal bottom ash using concentrated HCl. Characterization of activated coal bottom ash was done by using Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-Ray Difraction (XRD) analysis. Parameters of metal adsorption examined in this study include the effect of pH, mass of adsorbent, and interaction time. The concentration of each metal ion remaining in the solution after adsorption and desorption was determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The result showed that activated coal bottom ash has been carried out. The optimum conditions for Mg(II) adsorption using 0.3 g coal bottom ash are at pH 5 with 60 minute contact. The Adsorption kinetics follow Ho model pseudo-second order with the rate constant 0.6182 and 0.998 correlation coefficient. These results highlight the potential of activated coal bottom ash as a low-cost, effective adsorbent for water treatment applications.

Abstract

This research examines the patterns of economic development in Central Sulawesi, emphasizing the impact of capital spending, wealth disparity, poverty levels, historical Gross Regional Domestic Product, joblessness, and the Human Development Index. The investigation employs panel data from districts and cities spanning 2016-2021, utilizing a dynamic panel regression approach to assess how lagged independent variables affect contemporary economic expansion. Analysis findings demonstrate that municipal capital investments significantly and positively influence economic development, suggesting that government expenditure on infrastructure and human capital serves as a primary catalyst for enhanced regional economic performance. On the other hand, income inequality and unemployment have a significant negative influence, indicating that social inequality and low labor utilization are obstacles to growth. The poverty and Human Development Index variables showed a not significant influence, indicating the need for further studies related to the mediation variables and a longer observation period. Past Gross Regional Domestic Product has also been shown to have a significant positive effect, confirming the effect of temporal dependence in the regional economic development process. These findings strengthen the understanding of the importance of effective fiscal policies and efforts to reduce inequality and unemployment to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Central Sulawesi.

Abstract

Poverty reduction under the Sustainable Development Goals remains constrained by the persistence of vulnerable poor households, particularly in Sulawesi, where limited income and rising health expenditures increase the risk of falling into poverty despite being above the poverty line. This study aims to determine the income of vulnerable low-income households on Sulawesi Island using SUSENAS 2023 data and to analyze the ratio of health expenditure to rice expenditure. It is descriptive quantitative research using SUSENAS 2023 secondary data. The research population is 47,478 households, focusing on a sample of 9,223 vulnerable low-income households defined by expenditure of 1.0-1.5 times the provincial poverty line. Results show 9,223 vulnerable low-income households spread across six provinces. Central Sulawesi has the highest vulnerability threshold, while West Sulawesi has the lowest, reflecting regional price differences. Living costs increase economic vulnerability. The proportion of non-prescription health expenditure is highest in Central and Southeast Sulawesi, where it exceeds rice expenditure. Purchasing non-prescription drugs is common due to easier access and lower cost, despite risks of irrational use. Government social assistance for low-income households includes direct cash transfers, national health insurance, and food aid.

Abstract

Vulvovaginal candidiasis is the second most common cause of vaginitis after bacterial vaginosis with at least 75 – 80% of women have had one episode of VVC in their lifetime. Their prevalent resistance to most commonly used antifungal agents makes their treatment a challenge to physicians. Flavonoids have been shown to possess potent anti-Candida properties which can inhibit the growth and proliferation of Candida species through various mechanisms, including inhibition of fungal cell wall synthesis, disruption of fungal cell membrane integrity, and interference with fungal cell signaling pathways. Their potency makes them potential candidates for the development of antifungal agents for the treatment of candidiasis, alone or in combination with existing antifungal drugs. The review aims to explore the mechanisms by which flavonoids inhibit the growth and proliferation of Candida species, including the inhibition of fungal cell wall synthesis, disruption of fungal cell membrane integrity, and interference with fungal cell signaling pathways.
