Abstract

Low life satisfaction can lead to serious mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, which can negatively impact quality of life. This study aims to develop and validate an instrument from Diener that can be used to measure life satisfaction accurately and reliably using the Rasch Model approach. This research method involved 70 participants representing various backgrounds, both men and women. The collected data were analyzed using the Rasch Model to evaluate scale accuracy, validity, reliability, and undimensionality on the life satisfaction scale. The results of this study explain that out of 7 scale item choices, there are three item choices on the life satisfaction scale that are inappropriate, namely scales 3, 4 and 5 which do not have peaks. The validity and reliability results show that 5 items are valid and reliable with the results of the validity value meeting the validity and reliability criteria resulting in a Cronbach's alpha value obtained of 0.83 which means it is in the good category. Furthermore, the findings of the dimensional test tested with standardized residuals are known to have a value of 65.1%. Assuming these criteria are met, the life satisfaction instrument meets the 20% threshold for the unidimensionality test.

Abstract

Abstract

Inclusive education has become a global priority, emphasizing the right of children with special needs (CSN) to receive quality education without discrimination. This study is motivated by the critical role of accurate assessment in designing effective learning for children with special needs (CSN). This research aims to evaluate the implementation of educational assessment for CSN at Aisyiyah Tembung Special Needs School and to identify the factors influencing its practice. A qualitative approach was employed, using content analysis of verbal, visual, and written documentation. The research subjects were educators teaching CSN at the school. The findings reveal that most teachers do not have a background in special education, but rather come from other disciplines such as mathematics, religion, physical education, and the arts. This lack of specialized training affects the accuracy of assessment practices, as teachers struggle to identify the individual needs of CSN comprehensively. The study underscores the urgent need for targeted training programs to equip non-specialist educators with adaptive assessment skills. The main contribution of this research lies in highlighting the importance of strengthening assessment competencies among general educators within the context of inclusive education, as a strategic step toward improving the quality of educational services for children with special needs. Abstract

Counseling education plays a crucial role in both classroom and extracurricular learning contexts. It can serve as a foundational paradigm for educational practices in society. Substance Use Disorder (SUD) presents significant global and local challenges that can disrupt the educational landscape in Indonesia, particularly due to its high prevalence in correctional institutions, which often leads to accompanying psychological issues such as anxiety that hinder rehabilitation. This study examined the effectiveness of group counseling using a Cognitive Behavior Modification (CBM) approach combined with relaxation techniques in reducing anxiety among incarcerated individuals with SUD at Padang Class IIA Correctional Institution. Employing a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group, 16 participants were selected through purposive sampling and divided into experimental (n=8) and control (n=8) groups. Anxiety was measured using a 32-item Likert scale adapted from Nevid et al. (2018), and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and Mann–Whitney U Test. The findings revealed a significant decrease in anxiety levels in the experimental group (mean pretest = 136.38, posttest = 54.38, p = 0.012, N-Gain = 78.56%), outperforming the control group (p = 0.027). These results support the role of CBM in restructuring maladaptive thinking and highlight the contribution of relaxation techniques to emotional stability. This intervention provides a promising evidence-based option for mental health programs in Indonesia and offers valuable insights for policy development to enhance rehabilitation and promoting high quality education, especially in the world of educational psychology learning.

Abstract

The urgency of improving the quality of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services demands accurate and holistic assessments, especially through the use of non-test instruments that are able to reveal students' affective, social, and psychological aspects. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of non-test instruments in counseling services based on a literature study of 30 national and international journal articles. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach, involving thematic analysis of publications from the last five years. The results show that non-test instruments, such as questionnaires, observations, interviews and sociometry, are effective in supporting a comprehensive understanding of students. However, their implementation still faces obstacles such as limited training and the lack of validated instruments. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening the competence of counseling teachers and developing contextualized and standardized instruments. Future research is recommended to empirically evaluate the implementation of these instruments in schools.
