Abstract

The prevailing philosophical and anthropological concepts of Homo Sapiens, Homo Faber, and Homo Economicus have historically understood humanity through a single, dominant trait. This reductionism fails to capture the inherent complexity of human nature. Through a qualitative content analysis of Edgar Morin’s La Méthode 5: L’Humanité de L’Humanité, this study elucidates Morin’s concept of Homo Complexus as a corrective framework. The findings reveal that Morin posits human nature as a productive, Yin-Yang-like tension between rationality (Homo Sapiens) and irrationality/emotion (Homo Demens), where these poles are interdependent and complementary. The study concludes that Homo Complexus provides a more holistic and realistic foundation for understanding human identity, with significant implications for fields like education, which must now account for the full spectrum of rational, emotional, mythical, and aesthetic human dimensions. In this study, a literature review method with a qualitative descriptive research approach is used, discussing primary sources from Edgar Morin’s book and secondary sources from books that discuss the concepts of Homo Sapiens, Homo Faber, Homo Ludens, and Homo Economicus. The findings of the study show that human beings, according to Morin, cannot be understood through only one dimension of their existence but as a combination of elements that interact with each other, such as rationality, emotions, myths, art, and affectivity. The concept of Homo Complexus challenges conventional views that separate humans into narrow categories and offers a more complete understanding of humans. This research has contributed to introducing a humanist and holistic integrative approach in human philosophy. The findings of this research in the field of social sciences provide a new view of humans living complex and dynamic lives.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of science learning in developing elementary school students’ science literacy competencies, including scientific knowledge, science process skills, and scientific attitudes. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques consisting of observation, interviews, and document analysis. Data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that science learning is still dominated by lecture methods, while the use of inquiry, experiments, and active learning models remains limited. Students’ scientific activities are not yet optimal, resulting in uneven development of science process skills such as observing, predicting, and concluding. Teachers face obstacles including limited pedagogical competence and learning facilities, which affect the variety of teaching methods. Overall, students’ science literacy development is at a moderate level, with main weaknesses in understanding abstract concepts and interpreting data. This study emphasizes the importance of activity-based science learning to enhance elementary students’ science literacy

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the role of science education in elementary schools in developing scientific thinking, science literacy, and 21st-century skills. The method used is a literature review through the analysis of various sources related to science education. The results indicate that science education is not merely a medium for transferring natural concepts, but also a means to foster scientific character, critical thinking, and creativity. The integration of technology, inquiry-based approaches, and project-based learning has been proven to enhance students' readiness for the digital era. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan media pembelajaran interaktif “Kampung Cerita Digital” berbasis web untuk meningkatkan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas V SDN 1 Semarapura Kangin. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) dengan model ADDIE yang meliputi tahap analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SD Negeri 1 Semarapura Kangin pada semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2025/2026. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas siswa kelas V yang berjumlah 30 siswa dan guru kelas V yang berjumlah 7 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi angket dan tes. Instrumen penelitian berupa angket validasi berbasis Learning Object Review Instrument (LORI), angket User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ), serta tes objektif membaca pemahaman. Hasil uji kepraktisan menunjukkan responden dari kategori guru memberikan total skor konversi sebesar 85. Skor ini tergolong sangat tinggi dan berada jauh di atas rata-rata standar SUS yaitu 68. Pada kelompok responden siswa, terjadi variasi penilaian yaitu rata-rata skor siswa adalah 80, dengan rentang skor terendah 70 dan tertinggi 97,5. Uji efektivitas menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa yang menggunakan media dibandingkan dengan siswa yang tidak menggunakan media, dengan nilai signifikansi < 0,05. Sehingga, media pembelajaran interaktif “Kampung Cerita Digital” berbasis web dinyatakan layak dan efektif digunakan sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Abstract: This article examines the important role of science education in developing future competencies needed by students in the 21st century. Through a literature review of various relevant sources, this article analyzes how science education can facilitate the development of 21st century competencies including critical thinking skills, creativity, collaboration, communication, and scientific literacy. The review findings indicate that science education has a strategic role in preparing students to face global challenges through learning oriented toward developing 4C skills (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication) and scientific literacy. The implementation of scientific approaches, STEM, and problem-based learning in science education has proven effective in developing future competencies. This article recommends the importance of transforming science learning to be more adaptive, innovative, and contextual to optimize the development of students' competencies in facing the era of industrial revolution 4.0 and society 5.0. Abstrak: Artikel ini mengkaji peran penting pendidikan sains dalam mengembangkan kompetensi masa depan yang dibutuhkan peserta didik di abad ke-21. Melalui kajian kepustakaan terhadap berbagai sumber literatur yang relevan, artikel ini menganalisis bagaimana pendidikan sains dapat memfasilitasi pengembangan kompetensi abad 21 yang mencakup keterampilan berpikir kritis, kreativitas, kolaborasi, komunikasi, dan literasi sains. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan sains memiliki peran strategis dalam mempersiapkan peserta didik menghadapi tantangan global melalui pembelajaran yang berorientasi pada pengembangan keterampilan 4C (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication) dan literasi sains. Implementasi pendekatan pembelajaran saintifik, STEM, dan pembelajaran berbasis masalah dalam pendidikan sains terbukti efektif dalam mengembangkan kompetensi masa depan. Artikel ini merekomendasikan pentingnya transformasi pembelajaran sains yang lebih adaptif, inovatif, dan kontekstual untuk mengoptimalkan pengembangan kompetensi peserta didik dalam menghadapi era revolusi industri 4.0 dan society 5.0.

Abstract

This systematic literature review synthesizes evidence on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with Balinese local wisdom for adolescent human resource development in Bali’s tourism contexts. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a Scopus search (2016-2025) identified 21 empirical studies. Each was coded for PjBL implementation, local wisdom integration, humanistic/ecological perspectives, youth development, and tourism relevance. Findings show widespread integration of humanistic/ecological perspectives and local wisdom. However, explicit PjBL implementation appeared in only 8 of 21 studies (38.1%), with others showing project-like elements. Recurring limitations include partial local wisdom integration and limited attention to ecological impact and youth agency. Based on this, the study proposes a seven-stage PjBL syntax operationalizing Tri Hita Karana, Tat Twam Asi, and menyama braya. This model offers a culturally grounded framework for adolescent HRD, addressing existing gaps and promoting humanistic-ecological sustainability in Bali's unique tourism setting.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine how science education grounded in scientific practices, socioscientific issues (SSI), and the integration of STEM–Computational Thinking (CT) can foster future competencies among elementary school students. The method employed is a literature review analyzing relevant studies on 21st-century science learning, scientific literacy, and technology integration. The findings indicate that when science is taught as an epistemic activity—through inquiry, modeling, and evidence-based argumentation—and connected to meaningful social and environmental contexts, it simultaneously strengthens the 4C skills (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication), scientific literacy, data-digital literacy, and scientific character. The review also highlights key implementation prerequisites, including curriculum autonomy, formative performance-based assessment, meaningful technological ecosystems, and sustained teacher professional development. In conclusion, science education built upon practice, context, and technology offers a strategic framework for developing cross-domain competencies in elementary education. Abstract

This study aimed to explore the contribution of science education in building the future character of elementary school students. The method used is a literature review by analyzing relevant studies related to science education, character development, and 21st-century learning. The results indicate that science education based on the development of critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills positively contributes to shaping responsible, environmentally aware, and adaptive students. The method used was a literature review by examining relevant scientific articles concerning the role of science education in fostering 21st-century competencies at the elementary school level. The research stages included designing the review, conducting the review, data abstraction and analysis, and organizing the review results. The data were obtained from articles that met predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results indicate that science education contributes to enhancing 21st-century skills through the utilization of digital media such as learning videos, YouTube, PowerPoint, Macromedia/Adobe Flash, digital comics, e-books, flipbooks, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), educational websites, educational television, and learning applications. Furthermore, the implementation of instructional models and approaches such as Problem Based Learning (PBL), inquiry, discovery learning, Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS), Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) supports the development of these competencies. Abstract

AbstractThis article examines the implementation, support, and challenges faced in adopting and implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Cluster 1 elementary schools in Labuhan Haji District, East Lombok Regency. The Merdeka Curriculum is a new educational framework in Indonesia aimed at addressing the learning crisis and empowering schools with autonomy and independence in determining teaching and learning approaches. The study employs qualitative descriptive research, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that SDN 4 Labuhan Haji, as a pioneering school, has implemented the Merdeka Curriculum through intracurricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. However, the other five schools are still using a "self-learning" option. The understanding of teachers and support from the local Department of Education have been crucial in facilitating the implementation of the curriculum. Nevertheless, challenges such as low teacher commitment, limited instructions and policies, inadequate access to funds, and technological proficiency hinder the effective implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.
