Abstract

This study explores how audiovisual literacy, particularly through narrative film, functions within cinematherapy interventions to enhance exercise intention among university students. Using a qualitative-quantitative reception study approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, fourteen psychology students with low initial exercise intention participated in three weekly film-viewing sessions featuring Brittany Runs a Marathon, Creed, and Eddie the Eagle. The Exercise Intention Scale was administered before and after the intervention. Results showed a significant increase in exercise intention scores, from an average of 33 to 53 (t = 4.876, p < 0.001; Cohen's d = 1.28). Theoretically, these findings are analyzed through the lens of Narrative Transportation Theory, Social Cognitive Theory, and the Theory of Planned Behavior. The integration of these three frameworks reveals that films are not merely entertainment but function as narrative texts that foster emotional engagement, observational learning, and positive shifts in attitudes and perceived behavioral control. This study concludes that cinematherapy, grounded in audiovisual literacy, offers an accessible, affordable, and emotionally resonant strategy for promoting physical activity motivation among youth, particularly within higher education settings.

Abstract

The increasing use of social media has transformed sport photography from a form of visual documentation into a complex medium of digital discourse and visual semiotics. This study examines sport photography as a multimodal communicative practice while simultaneously synthesizing empirical evidence through a meta-analytic approach. The urgency of this research lies in the fragmentation of previous studies, which tend to examine engagement, branding, or gender representation separately without providing an integrative and quantitative synthesis. This study employs a systematic literature review and meta-analysis following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, analyzing 30 peer-reviewed studies published between 2022 and 2026. Of these, only studies with sufficient quantitative data were included in the meta-analysis, while the remaining studies supported qualitative synthesis. The findings reveal a moderate overall effect size (g = 0.44), indicating that sport photography has a significant yet context-dependent influence on audience engagement and perception. The heterogeneity value (I² = 64.3%) demonstrates substantial variation across platforms, cultural contexts, and methodological approaches. These results indicate that sport photography functions not only as visual representation but also as a dynamic semiotic resource that constructs meaning, identity, and ideological discourse in digital environments. In conclusion, this study contributes by integrating digital discourse, visual semiotics, and meta-analysis to provide a comprehensive understanding of sport photography in contemporary media.

Abstract

Prosocial behavior voluntary actions intended to benefit others plays a vital role in adolescents’ social skills, emotional well-being, and constructive interpersonal relationships. Adolescents with high prosociality tend to exhibit lower negative emotions and stronger social development. However, limited research has examined this phenomenon among Muslim university students. Guided by Domain Theory, this study investigates the influence of self-control, subjective well-being, happiness, and life satisfaction on prosocial behavior in Indonesian Muslim students. A cross-sectional design with convenience sampling recruited 300 Muslim university students (84 males, 28%; 216 females, 72%) aged 17–24 years (M = 19, SD = 1.23). Participants completed the Prosocial Tendencies Measure (PTM), Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS), BBC Subjective Well-being Scale (BBC-SWB), Orientation to Happiness Scale (OTH), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), all adapted to the Indonesian context with acceptable reliability. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. Results showed that subjective well-being (β = -0.169, p = 0.031) and happiness (β = 0.498, p = 0.000) significantly influenced prosocial behavior. Self-control (β = -0.058, p = 0.333) and life satisfaction (β = 0.119, p = 0.081) showed no significant effect. Indonesian Muslim students who reported higher levels of subjective well-being and happiness were more likely to engage in prosocial behavior. However, the research model hasn’t optimally explained the relationship between variables, as there are still other factors that can influence them.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Physical education teachers play an important role in instilling an active lifestyle and social values. In relation to this important role, teachers need to have good emotional regulation and psychological well-being to support their teaching. There is a need for research that examines the involvement of emotional regulation in shaping the psychological well-being of physical education teachers. Research Objectives: The purpose of this research is to predict the role of emotion regulation on the psychological well-being of physical education teachers. Methods: Quantitative research was chosen as the research method with data processed using simple regression analysis. Research data were obtained from physical education teachers who are undergoing pre-service teacher training at a higher education institution. The questionnaire obtained data from 74 respondents and was processed on SPSS 26.0.0. Finding and Results: Based on the findings, it was discovered that emotional regulation negatively predicts psychological well-being. The meaning of these results is that the higher the emotional regulation, the lower the psychological well-being of physical education teachers. Conclusion: It is concluded that the negative coefficient of emotion regulation is able to predict the psychological well-being of physical education teachers. These findings differ from several previous studies. The results of this study, on the other hand, are also able to contribute to relevant parties by providing emotion regulation training strategies to enhance psychological well-being. In addition, the new findings recommend to other researchers to explore what types of emotion regulation strategies may lead to a decline in psychological well-being.

Abstract

Background: Self-regulation is a core psychological skill for football athletes because it enables them to maintain attention, manage emotions, and adjust behavior under competitive demands. Although self-efficacy is widely recognized as an important predictor of self-regulation, only a limited number of studies have examined whether positive affect, particularly happiness, moderates this relationship, leaving an empirical gap in understanding how cognitive and emotional resources interact in athlete functioning. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the influence of self-efficacy on self-regulation in football athletes and to test whether happiness moderates this association. Methods: A quantitative moderated regression design was used with 106 Indonesian male football athletes aged 14 to 22 years who were registered with professional or academy clubs. Data were collected using validated Indonesian versions of the Athlete Self-Efficacy Scale (ASES), the Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ), and the short Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). Measurement models demonstrated acceptable reliability and fit, and assumption checks indicated normal residuals, homoscedasticity, and no serious multicollinearity, supporting the use of Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). Finding/Results: The findings showed that both self-efficacy and happiness significantly and positively predicted self-regulation, and happiness significantly moderated (attenuated) the relationship between self-efficacy and self-regulation. The final model explained over half of the variance in self-regulation. Conclusion: Although the cross-sectional, self-report, and entirely male sample limits causal interpretation and generalizability, the results highlight the importance of integrating confidence building strategies with happiness enhancing approaches in psychological skills training for football athletes. Future research is encouraged to examine additional moderators using longitudinal or experimental approaches.
