Abstract

Batok fruit or known as Limonia acidissima is a fruit commonly found in South and Southeast Asia, with content that has the potential to provide benefits for skin health. Batok fruit contains many antioxidants that can improve skin brightness. This study aims to formulate and evaluate the physical characteristics of peel-off mask preparations to brighten the skin containing Aceh batok fruit extract (Limonia acidissima). The extract was obtained by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The mask preparations were made in four formulations: F0 as a base without extract, and F1, F2, and F3 with extract concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%, respectively. Evaluation of the quality of the preparations included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, drying time, and irritation test. The results showed that the addition of the extract affected the color of the preparation from yellow to yellowish brown and gave the extract a distinctive aroma. All formulas were proven safe, with pH values within the physiological range of the skin (6.2-6.4) and did not irritate the panelists' skin. The drying time for all formulas was uniform, at 15 minutes. Formula F3 (30% extract) demonstrated the best spreadability (4.5 cm) compared to the other formulas. However, all formulas showed inhomogeneous results and had adhesion below the ideal standard for topical preparations, which is less than 2 seconds. It was concluded that formula F3 was the most optimal among those tested because it had the best spreadability, did not cause irritation, and improved skin brightness after washing for 1 week. However, further research is needed to improve the homogeneity and adhesion of the formulations.

Abstract

Acehnese women living in rural areas during the conflict immediately experienced economic problems and violations. Entering a normal phase, rural women returned to their roles outside the home, helping to build the family economy. Inequality in various sectors has exacerbated the powerlessness of women living in these areas, particularly in economic matters. This study analyzes the forms of post-conflict women's participation and the obstacles they face in economic empowerment. The documents in this study are supported by various field data, informal interviews, and various sources of information from research literature on the burdens of rural women qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that women in North Aceh, particularly in the rural communities of Nisam, Guha Ulue, Alue Rambe, and Pulau Iboh in Kutamakmur District, are mostly farmers who also work as housewives. Their participation is still lacking in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of village development. Women's empowerment in Aceh faces various structural problems, including patriarchy, discriminatory interpretations of Islamic Sharia law, poverty, and low levels of political participation at the village level. The research findings indicate that rural women in Aceh have significant potential and a strategic role in village development but still face various cultural and structural barriers that limit their participation in empowerment.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Body stalk anomaly is a rare and severe malformation syndrome , occurring only 1 of 10.000 live births. The patholphysiology and trigger factor of body stalk anomaly are still unknown and characterized by : abdominal wall defects, thoracoo and abdominochisis, Severe kyphoscoliosis, a truncated or absent umbilical cord, and limb irregularities are characteristic features of body stalk anomaly. Potential factors contributing to this condition encompass early amnion rupture due to direct mechanical pressure or the presence of amniotic bands, vascular disruption in the early embryo, or an abnormality in the germinal disk.Early antenatal diagnosis is crucial for patient management despide the low life expectancy, and cooperative teamwork is needed to investigation the abdnormalities encountered at birth. the chromosomal testing is performed for congemital anomaly investigation. Case Presentation: We describe a case of body stalk anomaly that was identified through antenatal ultrasound evaluation during the initial visit. The findings were confirmed during the fetomaternal ultrasound examination, the finding were as follows : a single live fetus in utero in transverse lie position, absent amniotic fluid, scoliosis of the vertebrae, an abdominal wall defect, visceral organs (liver and intestines) protruding from the defect. The patient underwent elective caesarean section due to the tranverse lie positionof the fetus and severe oligohydramnios. The baby was born weigh in 2700 grams, measuring 30 cm in length, and with apgar score of 1/1. The observed congenital anomaly include : the placental adhering to the fetal abdomen, absence of an umbilical, visceral organs ( liver, spleen, small intestine, and large intestine ) protruding from a large abdominal wall defect. Both upper limbs are normal , the right lower limb has short femur with tibia and fibula, four toes and a band from the right foot to the pelvis. The left limb is not formed, with low set ears, placental thicketing, a singke umbilical artery, and undeveloped anus. Conclusion: Ultrasound examination is primary diagnostic tool to detect Body Stalk Anomaly ( BSA) ,with ultrasound , doctors can visualize the internal structure of the fetus and conditions intra uterine. Diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities in fetus is one of most important challrnge in perinatology.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Pre-eclampsia has varying onset patterns, which are challenging to determine due to their association with diverse clinical parameters, including blood pressure regulation, vascular remodeling, and placental hypoxia. These parameters influence the expression of key biomarkers such as microRNAs, metalloproteinases, and arterial pressure indices. Therefore, understanding the associations is crucial for improving early diagnosis and management. This study was conducted to compare miR-210 expression, mean arterial pressure (MAP), and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 levels between early-onset pre-eclampsia (EOPE) and late-onset pre-eclampsia (LOPE).METHODS: Pregnant women with EOPE (20–34 weeks) and LOPE (35 weeks to term) were included in this cross-sectional comparative study, and their blood samples were collected. miR-210 expression was quantified with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), MAP was measured using sphygmomanometer, while MMP-2 levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).RESULTS: miR-210 expression was more frequently observed in the EOPE group (87.5%) compared to the LOPE group (77.5%), with a significant difference identified between the two groups. The odds ratio for miR-210 expression in EOPE compared to LOPE was 2.03 (95% CI: 1.06–6.72). The MAP was notably higher in the EOPE group (121.15 mmHg) than in the LOPE group (116.15 mmHg), with a significant difference observed. Conversely, MMP-2 levels were significantly higher in the LOPE group (390.99 ng/mL) compared to the EOPE group (271.35 ng/mL).CONCLUSION: There are significant differences in miR-210 expression, MAP and MMP-2 between EOPE and LOPE. These findings suggest that miR-210, MAP, and MMP-2 could be useful biomarkers for distinguishing between EOPE and LOPE, potentially guiding more effective management and intervention strategies.KEYWORDS: miR-210, MAP, MMP-2, EOPE, LOPE, pre-eclampsia

Abstract

BACKGROUND: miR-200a is known to alter trophoblast invasion and spiral artery remodeling, leading to defective placentation that causes placental hypoxia, which is the main pathomechanism in early-onset preeclampsia (EOPE). Hypoxic placentas cause systemic endothelial dysfunction that is characterized by low production of endothelial vasodilator, mainly nitric oxide (NO). On the other hand, defective placentation does not cause late-onset preeclampsia (LOPE), making the role of miR-200a expression and NO level as predictors in LOPE questionable. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare miR-200a expressions and NO levels in EOPE and LOPE to clarify their role in pathomechanism of both types of preeclampsia.METHODS: A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted in 62 preeclamptic patients (31 EOPEs and 31 LOPEs). Subjects were classified into EOPE or LOPE groups based on whether the diagnosis of preeclampsia was made at <34 or ≥34 weeks of pregnancy. miR-200a expression was analyzed using real-time polymerase chain reaction technique, and NO level was analyzed using colorimetric assay method.RESULTS: EOPE and LOPE subjects were equivalent in terms of age and parity (p=0.709 and p=0.066), but significantly difference in gestational age (p=0.000). miR-200a were expressed in 74.2% of EOPE and 41.9% of LOPE subjects (p=0.010). Median NO levels were lower in EOPE compared to LOPE subjects (23.75 vs. 106.00 µmol/L) (p=0.027), and lower in subjects with detected miR-200a compared to subjects with undetected miR-200a (62.75 vs. 132.25 µmol/L) (p=0.032).CONCLUSION: miR-200a was more expressed in EOPE compared to LOPE subjects suggesting that it might be a significant in predicting EOPE. While NO level was significantly lower in EOPE whilst higher in LOPE subjects, hence might be potential as a marker to differentiate EOPE and LOPE.KEYWORDS: miR-200a expression, NO level, early-onset preeclampsia, late-onset preeclampsia
