Abstract

Toxoplasmosis remains a persistent public health concern among women of reproductive age due to the risk of congenital transmission and severe fetal outcomes. This narrative review aimed to synthesize recent evidence on infection determinants and evaluate evidence-based strategies to mitigate risks, addressing persistent gaps in awareness and intervention efficacy. A comprehensive literature search of PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted for studies published between 2016 and 2025. The findings reveal substantial geographic variation in seroprevalence, influenced by environmental conditions, cultural practices, and socioeconomic disparities. Higher infection rates were consistently reported among older, multiparous, rural, and less-educated women. Key risk factors included consumption of contaminated water, undercooked meat, and poor hygiene practices, while associations with cat ownership were inconsistent. Overall, knowledge and awareness of toxoplasmosis were low among women and healthcare providers. Although educational interventions and antenatal screening demonstrated potential benefits, their effectiveness remains insufficiently evaluated. Integrated, context-specific prevention strategies are urgently needed to reduce infection risk and prevent congenital toxoplasmosis.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) remain a major public health issue, largely driven by low consumption of nutritious food and limited protein intake. This community service program aimed to enhance awareness and skills in NCD prevention among residents of Sungai Pinang Baru Village through health education and freshwater fish cultivation using floating net cages (keramba apung) along the Martapura River. The activities included health education, technical training, installation of floating cages, stocking of catfish and tilapia fingerlings, and continuous mentoring. Results showed an increase in community knowledge of NCD prevention from 33.3% to 80%, and in fish farming practices from 38% to 83%. A total of 10 floating cages were successfully installed with active participation from local health cadres and youth groups. This program effectively improved nutritional awareness, fish farming skills, and created new economic opportunities for riverside communities. The integrative approach is expected to serve as a model for sustainable community empowerment based on health promotion and local food resilience. Abstract

The Islamic banking industry in Indonesia has grown significantly over the past decade as public awareness of Sharia-compliant financial services continues to rise. However, participation among younger generations, particularly Generation Z, remains relatively low despite their characteristics as digital natives who are critical of information and prefer practical services aligned with Islamic values. This study examines the influence of Electronic Word of Mouth (E-WOM) on actual saving behavior at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), with saving interest and trust serving as mediating variables. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 104 Generation Z respondents in Malang City and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS 3.0. The findings reveal that E-WOM significantly influences saving interest, trust, and actual saving behavior. Saving interest and trust also function as mediators that strengthen the relationship between E-WOM and saving behavior. These results indicate that digital exposure such as reviews, testimonials, and positive customer experiences can increase interest, build trust, and ultimately encourage concrete financial actions, including opening or maintaining savings accounts. The study concludes that E-WOM-based communication strategies are essential for Islamic banks to attract Generation Z and enhance engagement with Sharia-compliant saving products.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with a Muslim majority, has become a central point of attention in discussions on religious moderation. Islamic education plays a crucial role in promoting balanced religious understanding, particularly through institutions like pesantren and madrasah. The Al-Mazaya Paser Islamic Boarding School integrates general and religious curricula, enabling the internalization of religious moderation values within its educational process. This study aims to explore how religious moderation is instilled among students through the implementation of a combined curriculum, supported by the role of teachers, kiai, and institutional culture. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed narratively to identify patterns and draw conclusions. The results show that Al-Mazaya Paser actively applies the values of religious moderation—such as tolerance, nationalism, anti-radicalism, and respect for local culture—through both formal and informal education channels. Its affiliation with the Ministry of Religious Affairs supports the integration of pesantren traditions with national education standards. This study concludes that Al-Mazaya Paser represents a model for the effective internalization of religious moderation values in the pesantren environment and highlights the strategic role of Islamic boarding schools in shaping inclusive and balanced religious attitudes among the younger generation.

Abstract

The curve at Km 50 of the Pekanbaru-Bangkinang Highway is classified as a sharp and closely spaced compound curve and is identified as an accident-prone area, marked by accident-prone zone signs on one direction of the curve. Based on traffic accident data from 2019-2024, five accidents have occurred at this location. Non-compliance of the geometric design with current standards is a contributing factor to traffic accidents. This study aims to evaluate the geometric conditions of the curve and analyze safety-related issues based on the 2021 geometric road design guidelines and other safety aspects. The results show that Curve 1 (PI-1) is categorized as an SS curve, while Curve 2 (PI-2) is an SCS curve. Other geometric features such as radius, degree of curvature, transition curve, and sight distance on both curves do not meet the geometric road design standards. Additionally, the superelevation value of PI-1 exceeds the recommended maximum value. Safety issues are further compounded by pavement damage, including patches, alligator cracks, potholes, and aggregate wear. Traffic facilities at the curve lack complete warning signs, speed limit signs, road studs, street lighting, convex mirrors, and damaged road markings. If geometric improvements are not feasible, recommendations include installing warning signs for accident-prone areas, reduced speed, road damage, and slippery surface warnings. Other measures include installing street lighting, reflectors on guardrails, speed limit signs, road studs, convex mirrors, delineator, vegetation clearing, and repairing longitudinal road markings.

Abstract

Persistent deficits in students’ conceptual understanding of science, particularly within Indonesian secondary education, underscore the urgent need for evidence-based instructional interventions that transcend conventional, transmission-oriented pedagogical practice. This study examined whether the implementation of the Anticipation Guide (AG) strategy produces a significantly greater improvement in seventh-grade students’ conceptual understanding of science compared to conventional lecture-based instruction. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent pretest–posttest control group design was adopted. Fifty-two seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 1 Geyer were assigned to an experimental class (n = 26; AG-based instruction) and a control class (n = 26; conventional lecture-based instruction). Both classes studied the topic of Earth and the Solar System over four 80-minute sessions. Conceptual understanding was assessed using a validated 25-item multiple-choice instrument with a KR-20 reliability coefficient of 0.78. The Shapiro–Wilk test confirmed non-normal score distributions; accordingly, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was employed for inferential analysis. Normalized Gain (N-Gain) scores were computed to quantify the practical magnitude of pre-to-post improvement. The experimental class demonstrated a statistically significant pre-to-post improvement (Z = −4.489, p < 0.001; N-Gain = 0.436, Moderate category) alongside a pronounced reduction in score variance (34.46 → 10.15). No significant improvement was observed in the control class (Z = −1.003, p = 0.317; N-Gain = 0.012, Low category). The AG strategy, by activating prior knowledge, scaffolding evidence-based evaluation of scientific texts, and reinforcing conceptual consolidation through post-reading reflection, constitutes a significantly more effective instructional approach than conventional direct instruction for promoting conceptual understanding in secondary science education. The study contributes empirical evidence to the limited body of research on reading-based epistemic strategies in under-resourced secondary school contexts.
