Abstract

Therapeutic communication is a crucial component in the implementation of nursing care, aiming to foster a trusting relationship between nurses and patients. Effective implementation of therapeutic communication in inpatient wards is believed to improve patient understanding of their health condition, reduce anxiety, and create a more positive care experience. This study aims to determine the level of nurses' implementation of therapeutic communication and analyze its impact on patient satisfaction in inpatient wards. The study design used a quantitative descriptive approach with accidental sampling technique, involving 80 patients as respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire that assessed three aspects of therapeutic communication (orientation, working, and termination phases) and patient satisfaction levels. The results showed that nurses' implementation of therapeutic communication was in the good category (73.7%), while patient satisfaction was in the high category (70%). Correlation analysis confirmed a significant positive relationship between therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction. These findings indicate that therapeutic communication plays a crucial role in improving the quality of nursing care, necessitating ongoing training for nurses to maintain and develop effective communication skills.

Abstract

Therapeutic communication is a core skill in nursing practice that directly impacts the quality of care and patient safety. However, nurses often experience various obstacles, resulting in suboptimal implementation of therapeutic communication. This study aims to analyze the obstacles faced by nurses in implementing therapeutic communication in healthcare facilities. The research method used a qualitative descriptive approach with in-depth interviews with 15 nurses in hospitals and community health centers. The results showed that the main obstacles included high workload, lack of communication training, language barriers, patient emotional states, and an unsupportive work environment. The analysis revealed that organizational and individual factors play a role in reducing the effectiveness of therapeutic communication. This study emphasizes the importance of regular training, workload management, and creating a conducive communication environment to improve the quality of the nurse-patient relationship.

Abstract

Preliminary National Defense Education (PPBN) is a national strategic program aimed at developing the character of the younger generation, particularly university students, as agents of change and future national leaders. This study aims to analyze the implementation of PPBN in character development for students at the Trisakti Transportation and Logistics Institute, held at the Indonesian National Armed Forces Peacekeeping Mission Center (PMPP TNI) in Sentul. This study involved 659 students participating in the four-day PPBN program, which took place from January 22–25, 2026. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with an implementation study approach, through direct observation, documentation of activities, and analysis of PPBN learning materials. The results indicate that the implementation of PPBN significantly contributed to student character development, particularly in the aspects of discipline, responsibility, nationalism, leadership, cooperation, and mental resilience. Furthermore, PPBN activities increased students' understanding of the concept of non-military national defense, particularly in the context of the strategic role of the transportation and logistics sector in national resilience. This study concludes that PPBN is effective as a character education instrument in higher education and needs to be continuously integrated into the national education system.

Abstract

The use of traditional herbal medicine remains common practice in various rural areas of Indonesia, including among pregnant women. Jamu is considered an easily accessible, culturally based alternative healthcare treatment and is believed to provide benefits such as increasing stamina, reducing nausea, and alleviating pregnancy symptoms. However, some active herbal ingredients are known to be metabolized in the liver and have the potential to increase hepatocellular function, especially in specific physiological conditions such as pregnancy. This study aims to analyze the effect of traditional herbal medicine consumption on liver function in pregnant women in rural areas. The study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 60 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire regarding herbal medicine consumption patterns (type of herbal medicine, frequency, duration of consumption), then laboratory tests were conducted on liver enzyme levels SGOT and SGPT as indicators of hepatic function. As many as 40% of respondents were recorded as consuming herbal medicine regularly (≥3 times per week), with the most common types of herbal medicine being turmeric and tamarind, beras kencur, and temulawak. On average, respondents had had a habit of consuming herbal medicine long before pregnancy. Analysis using the Mann -Whitney test showed a significant difference in SGOT (p = 0.031) and SGPT (p = 0.038) levels between pregnant women who regularly consumed herbal medicine and those who did not. However, the median SGOT and SGPT values in the herbal medicine group remained within normal limits, thus not indicating clinical liver damage. However, this statistically significant increase indicates an additional metabolic burden on the liver due to exposure to the active ingredients of the herbal plant. This study concludes that consumption of traditional herbal medicine has the potential to affect liver function in pregnant women, although the effects have not yet reached pathological levels. Therefore, herbal medicine use during pregnancy should be done wisely, in a controlled manner, and in consultation with a healthcare professional. Further research with a longitudinal design, larger sample sizes, and laboratory analysis of herbal medicine ingredients is recommended to obtain a more comprehensive picture.
