Abstract

Indonesia is a large country that has residents with various religious and religious backgrounds. As a country with a society of various religions, of course the state will not be able to protect and fulfill all the dynamic needs of its people if there is no support or relationships from elements of the people themselves. So, this is where the government needs relations or partners who can work side by side in realizing peace in religion. In this case, the ulama are one of the government's working partners, so it is necessary to study the urgency of the relationship between the ulama and the government in realizing the development of religious diversity in Indonesia. This research uses qualitative research methods with a schematic sociology approach. The data sources come from various literature, which is then analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques. The results of the research conclude: 1) The relationship between ulama and the Indonesian government in realizing peace is very necessary because society in general is close to ulama so that when ulama unite with the government then the government's call is the ulama's call, what is ordered by the government will be more easily obeyed by the community both in terms of tolerance in religion and in other matters. 2) The development of religious diversity in Indonesia has experienced positive developments, because every religious adherent in Indonesia has provided tolerance for each community, both for the community itself and towards communities of other religions.

Abstract

North Sumatra is a region with a high level of disaster vulnerability, particularly the eruption of Mount Sinabung and flash floods in Langkat. The government's risk communication remains technocratic and one-way, making it less suited to the community's perspective, which is heavily influenced by religious values and local wisdom. Consequently, some residents rely more on natural signs, kinship networks, and the authority of religious figures in responding to disaster threats. This situation highlights the importance of integrating cultural and spiritual values into mitigation strategies. This study aims to analyze the forms of risk communication occurring in the community, identify relevant religious values and local wisdom, and formulate strategies to strengthen risk communication based on the local context. A qualitative case study approach was used in Karo and Langkat Regencies through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, which were then analyzed using an interactive analysis model. The results indicate that risk communication occurs through three channels: formal government channels, culture-based communication, and religious communication. Values such as mutual cooperation, traditional taboos, natural signs, and religious moral messages strengthen information acceptance and enhance community preparedness. This research implies the need for an integrative risk communication model involving religious leaders, traditional leaders, and the government to build more effective and sustainable disaster resilience.

Abstract

Social media has also become a public sphere for people to express all expressions, opinions, ideas, and feelings, including conveying hate speech. In Indonesia, there are many forms of hate speech, one of which leads to issues of racism and religious and state sentiment. This study will identify the problem of hate speech related to religion and the state on social media. This study is a descriptive qualitative study by taking data from Social Media Analysts using a query for hate speech words that have a relationship between religion and the state that are popular in Indonesia, namely the terms Kadrun and Cebong. The first result shows that around 52,290 thousand mentions containing hate speech using the word kadrun and 25,290 thousand statements using the word cebong as a form of negative response to issues that contribute to the background, the case of contradiction between religion and the state. The second religious issue has become a trending issue in the digital era and is most readily associated with political matters in spreading hate speech. Three Twitter media are one of the most frequently used social media platforms compared to other media in spreading hate speech by Indonesia's digital community. This research implies the development of perspectives from both labels to bring down the opposition's reputation during certain political events.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how Field Work Practice (PKL) plays a role in improving the communication skills of students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU). In this context, PKL is considered a crucial factor in developing students' communication skills. This study uses a qualitative method with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation conducted in one of the villages in Indonesia. The results of the study indicate that PKL has a significant influence on improving the communication skills of UINSU students. This finding indicates that the use of PKL is very effective, especially if supported by strong mastery of verbal and nonverbal communication skills. In addition to improving technical skills, PKL also contributes to building students' self-confidence and competence in facing the challenges of the world of work in the future.

Abstract

Young children’s screen use occurs primarily within the home, limiting the ability of schools to align family media routines with classroom learning demands. This pilot study evaluated the feasibility of an initial school-developed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for screen-time management at TK Islam Alam Nusantara in Bandung, Indonesia. The study employed an embedded mixed-methods design in which qualitative policy evaluation constituted the primary component, supported by a 30-day single-group pretest–posttest assessment. Five children with relatively high screen exposure and marked classroom attention or behavioral difficulties were selected through purposive extreme-case sampling. Data were collected through parent and teacher questionnaires, post-simulation interviews, structured classroom observations, and textual analysis of the initial SOP. The findings identified three operational weaknesses in the initial policy: ambiguous instructions, limited practical support for families, and the absence of a follow-up consultation mechanism. Three patterns of parental adaptation also emerged: substantive compliance, formal compliance, and regulatory evasion. Consistent implementation was associated with greater apparent improvements in children’s attentional focus, emotional regulation, and contextual verbal communication, whereas limited family time, commuting pressures, and parenting fatigue constrained implementation. Based on these findings, the initial SOP was reconstructed into a more supportive school–home partnership guideline incorporating explicit procedures, school-supported content curation, accessible home-based activities, and psychological consultation. Because the study involved only five children, lasted 30 days, and lacked a comparison group, the behavioral findings should be interpreted as preliminary indications rather than evidence of causal effectiveness. The study demonstrates that school-based screen-time guidance is more feasible when it combines operational clarity, practical assistance, and sensitivity to diverse family conditions.

Abstract

Penelitian ini meneliti kebiasaan membaca (reading habit) Komunitas @gerakan_1week1book terhadap peningkatan minat baca masyarakat Indonesia. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah dengan kuesioner, obeservasi, dan dokumentasi. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah member komunitas @gerakan_1week1book sebanyak 99 orang. Dengan teknik pengambilan sampel Simple Random Sampling. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis regresi linier sederhana melalui uji t dan uji F serta analisis koefisien determinasi (R2). Dari hasil analisis menggunakan uji t dan uji F dapat diketahui bahwa variabel independen yaitu kebiasaan membaca komunitas @gerakan_1week1book berpengaruh signifikan terhadap variabel dependen yaitu minat baca masyarakat Indonesia. Hasil analisis menggunakan koefisien determinasi diketahui bahwa 40,5% variasi minat baca masyarakat Indonesia dijelaskan oleh kebiasaan membaca komunitas yaitu motivasi membaca, tujuan membaca, tersedianya koleksi yang memadai. Sedangkan sisanya 59,5% dijelaskan oleh variabel lain yang tidak terdapat dalam penelitian ini.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Hajj policy communication within the digital media ecosystem, strategies for pilgrim information services, information crisis management and public communication transparency, as well as the relationship between the state and religion in religious public services. The research employs a qualitative approach using library research and a case study perspective. Data were collected from scholarly journals, books, policy documents, and reports from relevant international organizations, and subsequently analyzed through content analysis and thematic analysis. The findings indicate that digital media play a significant role in enhancing the effectiveness of Hajj policy communication by providing information that is faster, more accessible, and more responsive. Effective information service strategies are characterized by the integration of information systems, the utilization of digital technology, and communication that is oriented toward the needs of pilgrims. Information crisis management and public communication transparency are essential factors in maintaining public trust in the administration of Hajj services. Furthermore, the relationship between the state and religion in religious public services is increasingly strengthened through digital governance that promotes transparency, participation, and accountability. This study emphasizes that policy communication and digital governance constitute fundamental pillars in realizing effective Hajj administration that is centered on the needs and services of pilgrims

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ perspectives on influencer endorsement in the marketing of local G2G skincare products on Instagram. The increasing use of influencers in digital marketing strategies reflects a shift in marketing communication patterns; however, limited studies have specifically examined how students, as consumers, interpret influencer endorsement in the context of local products. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews with students of Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara who actively use social media. The findings indicate that influencer endorsement is perceived as a factor influencing interest and trust in products, particularly when influencers are considered credible, relevant to the product, and demonstrate authentic usage experiences. However, students do not passively accept endorsement content; instead, they engage in critical evaluation of the information presented. Furthermore, trust in the product is influenced not only by influencers but also by personal experience, peer reviews, and brand reputation. This study highlights that the effectiveness of influencer endorsement in marketing local skincare products depends not merely on influencer popularity, but on perceived credibility and relevance from the consumers’ perspective.

Abstract

This study explores how international students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) navigate cultural differences and adapt to a new social environment while experiencing culture shock. The increasing mobility of international students in Indonesian higher education has created various intercultural communication challenges, particularly during the adaptation process. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving international students, local students, lecturers, and dormitory administrators. The findings indicate that international students experienced culture shock related to language barriers, differences in social norms, communication styles, and everyday cultural practices. To cope with these challenges, they engaged in interpersonal and intercultural interactions with local students and members of the academic community. Adaptation strategies included language adjustment, environmental observation, the use of translation technologies, and participation in social activities. The findings also suggest that support from local students, lecturers, dormitory environments, and campus facilities contributed to students’ adaptation processes. These experiences can be understood through the perspective of Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT), particularly in terms of communication adjustments undertaken to facilitate interaction and social acceptance while maintaining aspects of their original cultural identity.

Abstract

The emergence of digital media has transformed Islamic preaching into more interactive and inclusive forms. One such innovation is the Log In Podcast, which combines religious messages with entertainment (dakwahtainment) and features interfaith dialogue. This study explores how inclusive communication strategies are applied in the Log In Podcast Season 3, particularly in engaging religious and cultural minorities. This qualitative research uses a descriptive approach with content analysis techniques. Data were gathered from eight episodes of the Log In YouTube podcast and audience comments. NVivo 12 software was used for coding and thematic mapping of both the content and responses. The analysis reveals three key indicators of inclusive da’wah namely diverse guest speakers (including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and cultural figures), a wide range of themes (such as tolerance, psychology, sharia, and the arts), and positive audience engagement. Comments reflect appreciation for the open, respectful tone and the podcast’s ability to bridge religious differences. Figures like Habib Ja’far play a central role in mediating dialogue, while audiences respond enthusiastically to recurring interfaith guests and inclusive discussions. The Log In Podcast succeeds as a platform for inclusive digital da’wah, creating a space where religious diversity is respected and discussed. This approach not only appeals to Muslim audiences but also engages minorities and non-Muslims, fostering interfaith understanding. The podcast demonstrates how social media can be effectively used for pluralistic and modern religious communication.
