Abstract

Objective: Innovative digital learning media are increasingly needed to help students understand complex biological concepts and develop scientific literacy. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the validity and practicality of FAZAR ALIRA, a learning media that integrates augmented reality (AR) visualization and virtual laboratory simulations within a PBL framework for teaching the human circulatory system. Method: The study employed a research and development approach consisting of analysis, design, development, and evaluation stages. The developed media includes AR visualizations of laminar and turbulent blood flow, contextual learning materials related to lifestyle and cardiovascular health, and interactive virtual laboratory simulations that allow students to investigate the relationship between blood vessel resistance, blood pressure, and heart workload. Results: The validity of the media was evaluated by science education experts and practitioners, while its practicality was examined through teacher and student responses during implementation. The results indicate that FAZAR ALIRA achieved high validity across content, construct, and language aspects and was considered practical and easy to use in classroom learning. Novelty: This study lies in integrating AR-based blood flow visualization, contextual health narratives, and virtual laboratory inquiry within a PBL environment to support students’ scientific literacy in learning the human circulatory system.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to map students' GenAI usage profiles during physics learning. In addition, it examines the correlation between these variables and students' critical thinking skills in physics learning. Method: A non-experimental, quantitative, ex post facto design was employed. This design captures phenomena that occur naturally without any intervention. The research instruments consisted of questionnaires and tests. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kruskal–Walls test, and Spearman’s correlation test. Results: Students tend to accept answers from GenAI quickly during physics learning. Only a small proportion are accustomed to questioning, verifying, and evaluating GenAI-generated answers. There are differences in critical thinking skills among groups of students with different patterns of GenAI use, with an ε2 of 0.410. The profile of GenAI usage is positively correlated with critical thinking skills, with a correlation coefficient of 0.525, indicating a moderate relationship. Novelty: This study contributes by revealing students' GenAI usage profiles in physics learning and by providing empirical evidence that the quality of ethical and reflective use has a strong influence and is positively correlated with critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of physics e-modules based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students’ critical thinking skills on static fluid concepts. The focus is to evaluate the implementation of learning, measure the improvement of students’ critical thinking ability, and analyze student responses after applying the PBL-based e-modules. Method: The research employed a proper experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group, conducted at MA Ma’arif Bangil, Pasuruan, Indonesia. A total sampling technique was used, with class XA as the experimental group and class XB as the control group. Data were collected using observation sheets, pre-test and post-test instruments, and student response questionnaires. Data analysis included N-Gain scores, normality and homogeneity tests, t-tests, and descriptive analysis for student responses. Results: The findings showed that the implementation of PBL-based e-modules reached an average of 91.8% categorized as very good. Students in the experimental class demonstrated a significant improvement in critical thinking skills, with an average N-Gain of 0.512 (moderate), compared to 0.212 (low) in the control group. Furthermore, student responses were predominantly in the “good” and “very good” categories, indicating positive perceptions of the learning approach. Novelty: This study highlights the integration of PBL with interactive e-modules as an innovative learning strategy that not only enhances students’ critical thinking skills but also addresses the limitations of conventional print modules. It provides empirical evidence that digital-based problem-oriented instruction is highly relevant to fostering 21st-century competencies in science learning.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the validity and reliability of an instrument developed to measure students’ perceptions of PhET simulation–based innovations in learning rigid body equilibrium. The research sought to determine whether the instrument accurately captured students’ conceptual understanding, engagement, and satisfaction while also identifying latent factors underlying their responses through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Method: The study employed a quantitative survey approach with 25 Likert-scale items distributed to students in one secondary school. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO), and Bartlett's test for sampling adequacy, followed by EFA with Varimax rotation. Reliability testing was conducted through Cronbach's Alpha to evaluate the internal consistency of extracted factors. Results:  The findings revealed that the instrument achieved strong overall reliability (Cronbach’s α = .909). EFA identified nine distinct factors, extending beyond the original five theoretical dimensions of ease of use, engagement, conceptual clarity, collaboration, and satisfaction. While the first five factors demonstrated high reliability (α > .75), Factors 6–9 exhibited weaker reliability, indicating the need for refinement. These results confirm that PhET simulations effectively enhance conceptual understanding and engagement, but also reveal additional dimensions of students’ learning experiences. Novelty: This study contributes to physics education research by providing a validated multidimensional instrument for evaluating PhET-based learning in rigid body equilibrium. The emergence of nine empirical factors highlights the complex nature of students’ perceptions and underscores the need for more nuanced measurement tools. Unlike prior research focusing solely on conceptual gains, this study emphasizes the psychometric validation of students’ experiences, offering a novel framework for assessing technology integration in physics education.

Abstract

Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning requires analytical and problem-solving skills through concrete experiences. Problem-solving skills, as part of higher-order thinking, are highly dependent on students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to scientifically analyze the profile of students' critical thinking skills on food chain material at SDN Kwaron 1. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. The research subjects consisted of 23 Phase C students at SDN Kwaron 1. The data collection instruments used written tests to measure critical thinking skills and material comprehension questionnaires. Data analysis techniques were carried out descriptively and quantitatively to provide an objective picture of student achievement. The results showed that students' critical thinking skills were very low. Based on supporting data, 61% of students did not understand the concept of the food chain well. These findings provide empirical evidence of the need to improve critical thinking skills in science education, especially in food chain material in elementary schools.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the profile of students' physics problem-solving skills as a basis for applying the digital book-assisted Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to sound wave material at the high school level. This analysis was conducted to determine the level of students' problem-solving abilities and to identify differences in abilities based on gender as a basis for developing more effective learning strategies. Method: This study used a quantitative descriptive approach involving 108 high school students as research subjects. The research instruments included a physics problem-solving skills test, a student response questionnaire, and interviews with physics teachers. The test was compiled based on problem-solving skill indicators that included understanding the problem, planning the solution, implementing the strategy, and evaluating the solution. The data were analyzed using the Rasch model to obtain more accurate measurements of student ability levels and question difficulty levels. Results: The results showed that students' physics problem-solving skills were generally still in the low category. Most students had difficulty understanding problems conceptually, determining the appropriate solution strategy, and evaluating the results of the solution. Analysis based on gender shows that the abilities of male and female students are relatively balanced. However, female students tend to be more thorough in descriptive and evaluative aspects, while male students are more prominent in the solution planning stage. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the analysis of students' physics problem-solving skill profiles from a gender perspective using the Rasch model as an empirical basis for developing a more interactive and contextual 3D digital book-assisted PBL model to improve students' physics problem-solving skills.
