Abstract

This study aims to identify students' learning styles, assess their science problem-solving abilities, and analyze these abilities in relation to their learning styles on the topics of vibration, wave, and sound. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through tests, observations, and interviews. Instruments included a learning style questionnaire, problem-solving ability test, and interview guidelines. The findings reveal four learning styles among students—visual (25%), auditory (13%), kinesthetic (58%), and visual-kinesthetic (4%)—with kinesthetic being the most prevalent. However, 71% of students demonstrated low science problem-solving ability, with an average score of 52.9. Specifically, problem-solving performance was categorized as low across all four indicators: understanding the problem (36.5%), planning the solution (29.2%), implementing the solution (29.7%), and rechecking the answer (18.3%). Students with visual learning styles performed better in all problem-solving stages compared to their auditory and kinesthetic peers. This study highlights the need for tailored teaching strategies to improve problem-solving skills, particularly for students with auditory and kinesthetic learning styles, as no prior research has focused on the interplay between learning styles and problem-solving abilities in the context of vibration, wave, and sound materials.

Abstract

The advancement of science and technology requires students to possess strong scientific literacy, particularly in understanding physical phenomena such as elasticity. However, students often demonstrate a low conceptual understanding of elasticity in real-life contexts, posing a challenge in physics education. This study aims to analyze students’ physics literacy skills using the Nature of Science Literacy Test (NOSLiT) instrument. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a sample of 30 students from classes A, B, and C. Data were collected through a written test based on the NOSLiT framework, which consists of six scientific literacy indicators, and analyzed quantitatively using achievement categories. The findings revealed that students' overall scientific literacy achievement was categorized as low (43.2%). The highest achievement was on the scientific evidence rule indicator (58.8%, moderate category), while the lowest was on science process skills (24.3%, very low category). These results suggest the need for more interactive and experiment-based instructional strategies to enhance students’ conceptual understanding. Students' responses were mostly descriptive and lacked evidence-based reasoning, with misconceptions about relationships among physics variables still apparent. These findings emphasize the importance of incorporating scientific practices—such as experimentation, evidence utilization, and contextual problem-solving—into teaching. This study was limited to a single school and instrument, which restricts the generalizability of the results. Future research should include a broader sample and adopt a mixed-method approach to obtain more comprehensive insights. Moreover, the development of inquiry-based learning models is crucial to support the advancement of students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

Sustainability is a major challenge in the 21st century that must be managed by physics learning. This study aims to explore students' sustainability literacy in the context of energy conservation and transformation through physics questions created with an environmental approach. This study uniquely integrates local pesantren contexts into physics education to address sustainability literacy, offering a novel contribution to science education by incorporating cultural and contextual relevance. With a descriptive exploration of 30 grade X students from senior high school Nurul Jadid, the research was conducted using tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The results on the knowledge dimension showed that students performed very well at low cognitive levels, but higher-order thinking skills, especially evaluation and creation, were still low. In the skill dimension, students' ability to solve problems was moderate, with weaknesses in the aspects of evaluation and reflection. Although students responded well to the contextual problems, many had difficulty in drawing energy transformation schemes. These results indicate the need for more practical and contextualized learning to strengthen sustainability literacy in physics learning.

Abstract

This study addresses Indonesian students’ low scientific literacy (PISA 2022) by developing and validating a Tari Boranan Lamongan–contextualized physics assessment instrument on rigid body equilibrium. Existing PISA-aligned tests are rarely embedded in local culture. At the same time, local wisdom materials often do not measure all eight PISA scientific literacy indicators, creating a gap for culturally resonant yet comprehensive diagnostic tools. This study aimed to (1) develop and validate an eight-indicator, PISA-aligned scientific literacy instrument, (2) map Grade XI students’ literacy profiles across the eight indicators, and (3) explore how the Boranan context shapes students’ engagement and reasoning. Using a mixed-method embedded design, 73 Grade XI students in Lamongan Regency completed eight essay-based literacy tasks, and ten students participated in semi-structured interviews. Expert validation indicated high content relevance, cultural authenticity, and indicator alignment, and reliability analysis yielded Cronbach’s alpha = 0.82. Results showed most students were in the very low and low categories, with relative strengths in interpreting data (45%) and explaining phenomena (38%), but pronounced weaknesses in designing investigations (28%), evaluating credibility of information (25%), and making evidence-based decisions (30%). Interviews confirmed that cultural context enhanced engagement and visualization but did not automatically support mathematical formalization. These findings suggest that the instrument can be used diagnostically to help teachers design targeted scaffolding for higher-order literacy skills, particularly in investigation design, credibility evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making, within culturally responsive physics learning.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' science literacy on the topic of impulse and momentum based on the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) competencies. This study uses a descriptive approach involving 22 high school students. The instrument used consisted of three essay questions (constructed-response) developed based on real-world contexts and aligned with PISA science literacy indicators. Students' answers are assessed using a PISA-based scoring rubric to categorize the level of science literacy achievement. The research results show that students' science literacy achievements vary across each competency. The competence to explain phenomena scientifically and design and evaluate scientific investigations falls into the Fair category, while the competence to interpret scientific data and evidence scientifically falls into the Poor category. These findings indicate that students are relatively capable of recognizing and explaining physical phenomena and have a preliminary understanding of scientific investigations, but still struggle with interpreting data and accurately relating it to physical concepts. The implication of this research is the need to strengthen learning strategies that emphasize data interpretation skills, such as thru the analysis of experimental results, graphs, and context-based reasoning questions. Inquiry-based and problem-based learning approaches are recommended to support the more comprehensive development of science literacy. This study has limitations in the small sample size, the limited number of instruments, and the research context being conducted in only one school. Subsequent research is recommended to involve a larger sample and more diverse instruments.

Abstract

Theoretical knowledge about disasters does not always correspond to technical ability in mapping risks. Lombok Island has high tectonic complexity because it is flanked by the Sunda Subduction Zone in the south and the Flores Back-Arc Thrust in the north, which requires precise spatial data-based mitigation strategies. This study aims to reconstruct students' mental models in integrating geospatial technology and disaster content through content analysis of essay answers. The novelty of this study lies in revealing the 'procedural logic gap' that is often overlooked in menu-driven practical assessments. The method used is descriptive-qualitative with a content analysis approach on 35 students of the Physics Study Program who have taken the Mapping course. The analysis framework adopts the Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM) and the SOLO Taxonomy. Research results reveal a sharp cognitive polarization, where the majority of respondents (60%) are at the Pre-structural and Uni-structural levels. Key findings indicate the phenomenon of "Disconnected Cognition"; students understand the conceptual aspects of tectonics (Tier 3 GTCM), yet fail to construct a systematic QGIS workflow (Tier 4 GTCM), which is reflected in fragmented procedure descriptions. The inability to integrate this operational logic causes mitigation map outputs to become merely "visual decorations" without optimal function as a decision-making tool. This study recommends a repositioning of the GIS curriculum to emphasize strengthening system logic rather than merely imitating software procedures.

Abstract

Physics learning in schools can foster essential skills for the current era, one of which is scientific literacy. Scientific literacy involves examining phenomena in students’ everyday lives, which can be explored through local wisdom. However, there are still limited studies that integrate local wisdom into physics learning to develop students’ scientific literacy. Addressing this gap, the present study aims to develop a student worksheet (LKS) integrated with the local wisdom of the Boranan Lamongan dance to enhance students’ scientific literacy. This research describes the feasibility of the developed worksheet in terms of its validity and practicality. The study employed the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The worksheet was tested on a limited scale in class XI science students at an Islamic Senior High School in East Java. The results show that the integration of local wisdom is feasible for use in physics learning to promote scientific literacy. The validity aspect achieved a PoA score of 84.13% (very valid), while the practicality aspect, assessed through learning implementation, obtained an average score of 96.04% (very practical). Overall, the findings indicate that the student worksheet integrating the Boranan Lamongan dance is feasible as a learning medium to foster students’ scientific literacy. Furthermore, this research contributes to the preservation of local culture by incorporating the Boranan dance into physics education.

Abstract

Objective: This study analyzes the development trends of STEAM-based project-based physics learning research over the past 10 years using bibliometric methods to describe (1) Research trends over the past 10 years; 2) Publication developments reviewed by document type, subject area, and language; 3) Distribution of research publications by country, author, and funding sponsor; and (4) identifying novelty between studies. Method: Research uses bibliometric analysis with descriptive qualitative interpretation of Scopus metadata. The analysis was conducted on 31 articles from Scopus and 17600 Google Scholar sources, with article categories, abstracts, and keywords covering the period 2015 to 2025. Results:  The results of this study indicate that: a) The development of PjBL-STEAM physics learning research from 2015 to 2025, which was indexed in Scopus, was highest in 2024 with 10 publications. b) Various types of publication documents, namely conference reviews, conference papers, articles, and book chapters, with the dominant language used being English. c) Indonesia is the dominant country in conducting research publications, with Malang State University as the main contributor, along with the Malaysian University of Technology. d) Research on STEAM-based PjBL continues to experience innovations in accordance with the times. It leads to 21st-century skills and is applied in learning on topics such as physics applications, static fluids, and others. Novelty: Findings study in the first decade-scale (2015–2025) bibliometric analysis of PjBL-STEAM that integrates and compares data from Scopus and Google Scholar can improve quality education.

Abstract

Kreativitas siswa penting dideteksi sejak dini dan ditumbuh kembangkan di dalam diri siswa melalui proses belajar mengajar di dalam kelas. Alat deteksinya berupa instrumen asesmen kreativitas. Guru yang akan melakukan penilaian kreativitas siswanya setelah dilakukan pembelajaran, sehingga perlu dilatih untuk membuat, mendesain asesmen kreativitas dengan indikator: fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration.  Masalahnya masih kurangnya asesmen kreativitas yang relevan dengan keperluan guru dalam proses pembelajaran menjadi masalah yang perlu dicarikan solusi. Menumbuhkan pribadi kreatif, proses kreatif, lingkungan kreatif untuk menghasilkan produk kreatif penting dibiasakan dalam pembelajaran yang berkualitas dalam pembangunan yang berkelanjutan (SDGs: quality education). Target peserta kegiatan adalah guru-guru yang tergabung dalam MGMP IPA di Kabupaten Trenggalek. Solusi yang ditawarkan dalam kegiatan PKM ini adalah dengan melatihkan keterampilan guru dalam menyusun asesmen kreativitas yang akan digunakan dalam pembelajaran inovatif yang digunakan di kelas masing-masing. Tahap pelaksanaan PKM adalah diskusi analisa kebutuhan yang melibatkan tim PKM dan guru-guru MGMP IPA, menyusun program pelatihan, melaksanakan pelatihan  pembuatan asesmen kreativitas IPA. Untuk isi asesmen maka digunakan  peristiwa  disajikan secara konstektual melalui fenomena yang terjadi serta mencari informasi dari berbagai sumber dengan topik IPA. Hasil pelatihan guru memberikan respon positif, antusias dalam pelatihan, bermanfaat meningkatkan kemampuan dalam pembuatan asesmen kreativitas.
