Abstract

International standard evaluation, PISA, one of which tests problem solving and literacy skills in the Uncertainty and data content on the topic of statistics, until now Indonesia is still below the OECD average. This study is here to describe how the ability of prospective teachers in problem solving is based on the Polya stages. This research needs to be done, where students who will become teachers should have national and international standardized abilities so that Indonesian education can compete globally. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative which describes the problem solving of the research subjects based on the Polya steps, namely understanding the problem, making a plan, implementing the plan and looking back. The work data from the PISA question instrument that has been adapted, modified according to the surrounding culture and has been validated by experts. In addition, the interview technique was carried out based on interview guidelines developed from the indicators of each Polya step. The research subjects were semester VII students who were selected based on the fulfillment of a greater credit load which could provide definite information on the output of prospective educators in the future. The results of the study showed that from the 4 Polya steps of the 4 questions analyzed, it was found that high group students had very good problem solving. Meanwhile, the students in the medium group are divided into two categories, one is almost at low ability and the other is in the medium group. One sample of the medium group has moderate obstacles in step 2 for questions 2 and 4 and the other is only constrained by number 2. For the low group, it is almost similar to the medium group, the difference lies in the implementation of steps 2,3 and 4 on polya which are incomplete except for number 4.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study aims to describe the implementation of mathematics learning based on Lesson Study using the Reciprocal Teaching model in the Mathematical Statistics course at FKIP Untan and ISBI Singkawang. The research focuses on improving students’ ability to write definitions and theorems symbolically through collaborative interactions among lecturers, students, and classroom contexts. The research procedure followed the Lesson Study cycle (plan–do–see), with data collected through interviews, observations, field notes, and assessments. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, involving data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that implementing Lesson Study with Reciprocal Teaching fosters dialogic, collaborative, and continuous learning. In the plan stage, collaborative planning produced a learning design incorporating the strategies of predicting, questioning, clarifying, and summarizing, aligned with students’ characteristics. The do stage revealed active student engagement in group discussions, SPSS practice, and symbolic writing of concepts, although some misconceptions regarding probability, distribution, and variance were still observed. The see stage provided a space for collaborative reflection to identify strengths—such as increased participation, mathematical communication, and conceptual understanding and weaknesses, including uneven participation and limited time allocation. The study concludes that integrating Lesson Study with the Reciprocal Teaching model effectively enhances students’ ability to write definitions and theorems symbolically while strengthening their understanding of Mathematical Statistics concepts. This model is recommended as an innovative strategy for preparing prospective teachers capable of managing reflective, interactive, and meaningful learning.Pembelajaran Matematika Berbasis Lesson Study Dengan Menggunakan Model Reciprocal Teaching Pada Mata Kuliah Statistika MatematikaABSTRAKPenelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi pembelajaran matematika berbasis Lesson Study dengan menggunakan model Reciprocal Teaching pada mata kuliah Statistika Matematika di FKIP Untan dan ISBI Singkawang. Abstract

This article examines the impact of globalization on multicultural education and local wisdom in the border areas of Kalimantan. Globalization has brought significant changes to cultural values, potentially eroding local cultural identities, particularly among younger generations. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study systematically collected and analyzed 85 journal articles published between 2015 and 2024 from databases such as Google Scholar and Crossref, using keywords related to globalization, multicultural education, local wisdom, socio-cultural learning, and border areas. Data were analyzed through thematic synthesis to identify recurring patterns and conceptual linkages. The findings reveal that multicultural education serves as a strategic approach to preserving cultural identity and fostering inclusive, tolerant student character. At the same time, local wisdom reinforces the internalization of noble values—such as gotong royong (cooperation), respect, and patriotism. Furthermore, effective implementation requires synergy between educational institutions, local governments, and communities through inclusive curriculum development, teacher capacity building, and community-based learning initiatives. In conclusion, this study makes a significant contribution both theoretically and practically by proposing a conceptual model and implementing strategies for integrating socio-cultural learning into multicultural education. It highlights the importance of strengthening cultural resilience in border regions through sustainable, context-based educational transformation in response to globalization.
