Abstract

Gender equity in the higher education context is a crucial issue. This study aims at investigating the issue of women and leadership in higher education. Further, this study explores factors impacting their efforts to take up the administrative positions and become university leaders. In this study, a qualitative design with a case study approach was employed to investigate the research questions. Data were collected through semi-structured in depth-interview with ten faculty members from four higher educational institutions in Jambi Province. All interviews were audio taped and transcribed for coding by using a constant comparative analysis method to identify the key themes. The data highlight the absence of women in higher education management due to personal problems, participation rates are still low and reflect in equalities in terms of women, and the representation of women in senior level position in higher education is still scarce. Majority of participants expressed that they are ready to receive opportunities for administrative positions. Further, the findings of this study also indicate that the opportunity for women to become university leaders is widely opened, but commonly they find various barriers to take up senior leadership. Recommendations to promote the readiness of women to take up senior leadership are discussed.

Abstract

Silver barb is one of the fish that can be cultivated year-round due to their excellent ability to adapt to Indonesian climate. One of the problems that cultivators often face is feeding; long-term commercial feeding or pelleting will negatively impact the fish’s body. Therefore, a natural admixture of feed can become an alternative solution. This study used powdered noni fruit as a feed supplement for silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus) because of its content of antioxidant compounds that can reduce oxidative stress due to free radicals. This study aims to determine the best practice of feeding powdered noni fruit as a feed supplement and its influences on silver barb's growth and survival rate during the fingerling phase. The study was conducted in November – December 2022 using a complete randomized design experiment consisting of four treatments and four retries. Random sampling took five fish sized 2 – 3 cm as samples. The cultivation container used in this study has a volume of 30 L, with each container containing ten samples. This study uses one-way ANOVA and is continued with a DMRT test to find the best doses of powdered noni fruit. The result shows that the best addition of noni powder was 15% of the total feed. This addition of noni powder demonstrates an increase of growth yield by 1.62 cm, absolute weight of 2.11 g, 87.5% survival rate, and feed conversion ratio of 0.0535. Moreover, the percentage of fish weight increases by 1.1% for every 1% increase in height.

Abstract

Hematologic analysis of plasma proteins by testing for hemoglobin, erythrocytes, and leukocytes against ectoparasite infection in cages was carried out by taking samples of fish with consumption sizes of 15-20 cm. The aim of this study was to find out the amount of exposure to ectoparasites internally in the body of tilapia based on blood protein hematology test. Analysis of the data used is analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the aim of knowing the effect of sampling and the parameters tested. The results showed that the presence of infection identified normal hemoglobin levels of 7.438 g/dL, erythrocytes were quite low at 1.5605 x1012/L, this is the nutritional factor given to tilapia and leukocytes were still in normal condition, namely 61.985x109/L. The ectoparasites found were Streptococcus sp, Lernea sp, Aeromonas sp, and Trichodina sp. The effect of the value of plasma protein content in blood for hemoglobin and leukocytes is still in normal condition, but erythrocytes are below the normal point so that from internal factors of tilapia disease, hematological blood plasma protein affects tilapia disease, especially on erythrocyte variables that affect fish anemia to mass death. This is in accordance with the situation in the field where tilapia in the KJA (Floating Net Cage) experienced sudden and mass death in a short period of time even though previously routine controls had been carried out by cage cultivators. When fish experience stress, fish blood glucose levels will increase while fish blood plasma total protein levels decrease.
