Abstract

Free radicals contribute to the onset of various degenerative diseases, highlighting the need for safe and effective antioxidants. Given the potential side effects associated with synthetic antioxidants, Sonneratia caseolaris is considered a promising natural alternative. This study aims to isolate secondary metabolites from the roots of S. caseolaris, evaluate their antioxidant activity, and analyze their molecular interactions. Extraction was conducted using a range of solvents, and antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The ethyl acetate fraction exhibited the highest antioxidant activity and was subsequently subjected to isolation procedures. From this fraction, a white crystalline compound with a melting point of 251253C was obtained. Spectroscopic analysis identified the compound as 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate, a type of phenolic compound. This compound exhibited very strong antioxidant activity, with an IC value of 6.63 g/mL, which is significantly lower than that of ascorbic acid (17.64 g/mL), indicating higher potency. Molecular docking analysis showed that 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate formed strong interactions with active residues of cytochrome c peroxidase, particularly Trp51 and Gly112, through hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions. Additionally, molecular dynamics simulations revealed that the compound-enzyme complex exhibited greater structural stability than the control (ascorbic acid), as indicated by lower residue fluctuations in root mean square deviation (RMSD) and root mean square fluctuation (RMSF) analysis analyses. These findings support the potential of Sonneratia caseolaris as a natural source for the development of antioxidant compounds with strong biological activity and favorable molecular interaction profiles

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of initial pH and concentration of methyl orange (MO) dye solution on the photodegradation process using a TiO2 catalyst impregnated into porous ceramics. This research is an experimental research consisting of several stages, namely; preparation  of Pinrang natural clay  samples, synthesis of porous ceramics using the gelcasting method, impregnation of TiO2 catalysts into porous ceramics by  the sol-gel coating method, and analysis of the influence of initial pH and concentration of MO dyes on photodegradation using impregnated TiO2 catalysts in porous ceramics. The analysis of the effect of the initial pH showed that the higher the pH of the MO dye, the lower the percentage of dye degradation as well as the concentration value, the higher the MO concentration value, the lower the percentage of dye degradation. The optimum degradation was obtained at pH 3 and a concentration of 10 ppm with a degradation percentage of 75.15%.

Abstract

Environmental pollution from dye waste is one of the environmental problems that is of concern today. One method that is effective, reliable, and does not require a large cost is photodegradation. In this study, a TiO2/porous ceramic (TiO2/PC) photocatalyst was used which was synthesized by the sol-gel coating method. The resulting photocatalyst was then characterized using XRF, XRD, SEM, and SAA which were then applied to the photodegradation process of methyl orange (MO) dyestuffs. Optimization of photodegradation conditions of MO dyes using porous TiO2/PC catalysts was carried out using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) method by Central Composite Design (CCD). The characterization results showed that the TiO2 phase was in the rutile phase with a level of 10.35%. The resulting photocatalyst has pores on the surface covered by TiO2 with a shrinking pore volume after impregnation from 0.076637 cm3/g to 0.064943 cm3/g with an average pore diameter from 4.51187 nm to 4.49999 nm. The optimal condition of degradation of MO dye occurred at pH 6, an initial concentration of 25 mg/L for 120 minutes, with a percentage of degradation of 89.54% and can be used up to four cycles. Thus, TiO2/PC photocatalysts have the potential to be used in the process of processing MO dye waste.

Abstract

Optimal child development reflects the future of a nation. Malnutrition and low birth weight (LBW) history are significant determinants impacting children’s development, especially in low-income settings. This study examines the relationship between nutritional status and LBW history with the development of 4-year-old children using the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP). The aim is to identify the relationship between nutritional status and LBW history with the developmental outcomes of children aged 4 years. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in the working area of Jongaya Health Center, Makassar. The study included 56 children, divided into groups based on their nutritional status and LBW history. Data were collected using anthropometric measurements and KPSP. Statistical analysis was performed to determine significant relationships. The results showed a significant relationship between nutritional status and child development (p<0.05). Additionally, children with LBW history showed delayed development compared to those without LBW history (p<0.05). It concludes that nutritional status and LBW history significantly influence the developmental outcomes of 4-year-old children. Early interventions addressing malnutrition and LBW are crucial to ensure optimal development.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the concept of forgiveness in minor crimes from the perspective of fiqh jinayah and analyze the gap between the principle of judicial forgiveness in Indonesian positive law and Islamic legal values. Judicial pardons in the Indonesian legal system are special powers given to judges to mitigate or exempt perpetrators from criminal sanctions, especially for minor crimes that do not have a significant impact on society. This concept is a form of judicial discretion in which judges can refrain from imposing sentences even if the defendant is proven guilty. This research uses a normative method with a conceptual and legislative approach, through an analysis of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) and jinyayah fiqh literature. The results of the study show that judicial pardon for minor crimes has similar principles to forgiveness in fiqh jinayah, such as consideration of the benefit of the community (maslahah), protection of victims' rights, and the application of proportionate punishment so as not to cause excessive deterrent effects. These findings indicate that judicial pardons can be integrated as an alternative mechanism for resolving minor criminal cases while upholding the principles of restorative justice and a balance between the rights of victims and the rehabilitation of perpetrators. The integration of the values of fiqh jinayah into the concept of judicial forgiveness has the potential to enrich Indonesia's positive legal practice in realizing a more humanistic and beneficial criminal justice system.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of a constructivist mathematics learning model that incorporates character education in improving students’ understanding of mathematical concepts. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi experimental design. This study involved students from 3 schools, who participated in 5 integrated learning sessions and uses a paired sample t-test to evaluate the effect of the integrated learning model on students' understanding of mathematics concepts. Data analysis was conducted using inferential statistical techniques. Based on the results of the paired samples test on the pretest and postest scores, it shows that Sig value. (1-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05 and tcount = 58.539 > 1.673 means that significantly the average student learning outcomes after being taught with an integrated constructivism-based learning model of character education are better than before being taught with an integrated constructivism-based learning model of character education. The results of this study show that the integration of character education in the learning model creates a more interactive, reflective and value-based learning experience, which ultimately contributes to improved understanding of mathematical concepts. Furthermore, this study also offers practical recommendations for educators and policy makers in designing learning models that are more adaptive and oriented towards student character development.
