Abstract

Bengkulu Province, located on the west coast of Sumatra Island and facing directly onto the Indian Ocean, causes sea waves in Bengkulu Waters to be directly influenced by its geographical conditions. Sea waves in Bengkulu Waters vary due to the influence of monsoon winds and global climate. Seasonal variations in significant wave height (SWH) obtained from altimetry satellite imagery in five regions representing Bengkulu, namely Mukomuko Waters, North Bengkulu, Bengkulu City, Seluma, and Kaur can be used to monitor sea waves. The coordinates of the five regions representing Bengkulu Waters are as follows: Mukomuko is located at 2°40'20.82" S, 100°38'47.12" E; North Bengkulu at 3°20'6.55" S, 101°4'59.68" E; Bengkulu City is located at 4°0'7.57" S, 101°31'49.10" E; Seluma is located at 4°20'0.00"S, 102° 0'0.00"E; and Kaur is located at 5°0'59.65"S, 102°49'24.50"E. The data used for five years (2018-2022) is in the form of an average daily SWH every 3 hours and is processed using Panoply software to display the distribution of SWH and time series for each of the five regions in Bengkulu Waters. The results of the study show that the highest sea waves occurred in Kaur Waters, reaching 3.9 meters in August 2022 with an average wave height of 1.73 meters. Meanwhile, the lowest sea wave height occurred in Mukomuko Waters which reached 2.7 meters in January and February 2022, with an average wave height of 0.3 meters. Sea wave height in Mukomuko Waters, North Bengkulu Waters, Bengkulu City Waters, Seluma Waters, and Kaur Waters showed an increasing trend over the past five years. Abstract

Creative and imitative reasoning are essential components of mathematics learning that support higher-order thinking skills. This study aims to examine the achievement and improvement of creative and imitative reasoning among eighth-grade students through the implementation of Resource-Based Learning (RBL). The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 43 eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Indonesia, selected using purposive sampling based on prior mathematical ability. The sample was categorized into high (8 students), medium (20 students), and low (15 students) ability groups. Research instruments included a mathematical reasoning test, classroom observation, and interviews. The results showed differences in the achievement of creative and imitative reasoning among the three groups. High-ability students demonstrated better comprehension and problem-solving skills, whereas medium- and low-ability students struggled with complex tasks and abstract concepts. RBL was found to significantly enhance creative reasoning, particularly through active exploration and the use of diverse strategies. However, some students, especially from the low-ability group, continued to exhibit imitative thinking patterns. These findings suggest the need for a more structured and exploratory RBL design to further develop students’ independent and innovative thinking in mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to examine students’ proportional reasoning in solving multiplicative problems. Three seven-grade students from SMPIT Al-Fahmi Palu were purposively selected using judgment sampling. Data analysis was conducted in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The analysis was based on Bexter and Junker’s theory of proportional reasoning, which consists of five stages: (1) qualitative, (2) early attempts at quantifying, (3) recognition of multiplicative relationships, (4) accommodating covariance and invariance, and (5) functional and scalar relationships. The results show that students with low ability (R1) solved problems by recording the first measurement and pairing it with the second measurement through addition, indicating the early attempts at quantifying stage. Students with moderate ability (R2) solved the problems by listing all possible combinations and summing them, indicating recognition of multiplicative relationships. Meanwhile, high-ability students (R3) solved the problems by multiplying the first and second measurements, indicating they were in the accommodating covariance and invariance stage of proportional reasoning.

Abstract

The demands for and availability of water is one of the main natural factors that can sustain life and means of livelihood. Springs originating from the foot of Mount Ungaran are the main water sources for Duren Village, Bandungan District, Semarang, which play an important role in meeting domestic household water needs. In addition to analyzing various types of techniques and community involvement in managing water supply, this study aims to look at the needs and patterns of water use that are utilized. This research uses a survey method and is descriptive and analytical in nature through field observations and in-depth interviews with local residents using a questionnaire in the data collection process. Statistical analysis used for data analysis is analysis of frequency distribution tables and analysis of various correlations. Based on the study findings, the community views the availability of water as very high due to the abundance of water during the rainy season, the absence of drought during the dry season, and the ease of accessing water due to the direct supply of available water, except during the rainy season when mud or soil debris Landslides enter the water source so that the water becomes cloudy. Springs are used to supply the domestic needs of the population and the quality of the water at the study site is very good or clean. In addition, the results of the analysis at the research location show a very high level of community involvement in the protection and preservation of water sources. This indicates that Duren Village residents consistently participate in efforts to manage water sources by carrying out mutual cooperation activities, slametan traditions, and recitation traditions. However, because there is no specific organization or group that regulates or assists in the management of water sources to become more structured and organized for optimal use therefore the utilization rate of water sources is still below average.

Abstract

Most of the surface water such as rivers, lakes, or freshwater swamps were mostly polluted by human activities. This research analyzed the quality of surface lake water located in Gunugkidul Yogyakarta and the treatment of polluted water with three different filtration media variations based on the value obtained from the calculation of Water Quality Index (WQI) methodology. Based on the value obtained from water quality calculations using the Water Quality Index (WQI) system, the value of Winong Lake water ranges between 25.41-44.24 or is at a fair water quality level. Filter A reduces turbidity with an average of 26.98 NTU, but a significant reduction can be seen from the filtration results of filter B with an average value of 15.3 NTU. Furthermore, filter C with different media thicknesses has the potential to reduce turbidity although the results are not as significant as filter B with an average of 22.08 NTU. For color parameters, Filter A can reduce color with an average of 59 Pt-Co. filter B reduces the color by a further value with an average of 30 Pt-Co. Filter C produces quite good results, namely with an average value of 53 Pt-Co. In filter A, the detergent reduction reached an average of 0.06 mg/L, while in filter B, a very significant value was obtained, namely an average of 0.03 mg/L. For filter C, a slightly different value was obtained from filter A, namely with an average of 0.055 mg/L. The use of more active carbon media in filter B has a very big effect not only on reducing detergent but also on turbidity and color. Furthermore, the dose of chlorine chosen to remove pollutants and organic materials is 0.3 ml/100ml. From the research results, it was found that using more active carbon media in filter B was up to 77% effective in reducing all pollutant parameters in Winong Lake water.
