Abstract

The convergence of technology has led to a mass appearance in digital users worldwide. News media must also distribute their news broadcasts using the new advanced technology. In addition, the initial lethality of COVID-19 has led Indonesians astray with the chaos at the beginning of the pandemic. The research aims to identify how COVID-19 news exposure by Republika.co.id can affect the increased anxiety levels of Jakarta’s young adults aged 15-24 years old. Quantitative research uses a positivistic paradigm and a survey method to collect the primary data, whereas secondary data is collected through past surveys related to the study. The collected data will then be tested for validity and reliability before both data variables are tested with the Correlation Test and Coefficient Determination Test. The research results with 100 respondents implicate that the COVID-19 Pandemic news exposure by Republika.co.id is highly correlated to the increase of anxiety levels of Jakarta’s young adults. The effect of this exposure is based at 23,6%, which is a moderate level. The other 76,4% causing the increase in anxiety levels were external factors that were excluded from this research topic.

Abstract

Following the 1998 reform in Indonesia, advertising has undergone significant expansion, leveraging enhanced communication accessibility and media proliferation to shape public perceptions of promoted goods. Presently, media channels are inundated with commercial campaigns showcasing both domestic and international products. Within this landscape, Tokopedia, a key player in the e-commerce sector, employs diverse media platforms such as YouTube to engage consumers amid intensifying market rivalry. This study delves into Tokopedia's approach via the "Filosofi Pete" advertisement, exploring its endeavors to combat stereotypes surrounding local products. Drawing parallels between domestic goods and petai a culturally stigmatized item the research highlights the heightened stigma amid globalization, where foreign products often enjoy elevated prestige and perceived quality standards. Through the lens of cognitive dissonance theory and Todorov's narrative analysis, the analysis reveals Tokopedia's strategic narrative framework aimed at reshaping perceptions towards local products. By dissecting the advertisement's storyline, narrative structure, and visual elements, the study unveils Tokopedia's nuanced tactics for challenging entrenched biases. Through compelling storytelling and visual imagery, Tokopedia endeavors to reframe the discourse around local products, fostering a more favorable consumer outlook. This research sheds light on the intricate interplay between advertising strategies, cultural perceptions, and consumer behavior, offering insights into how brands navigate evolving market dynamics to carve out a competitive edge.

Abstract

Halal Lifestyle is a fundamental aspect of the Muslim community's lifestyle, as consuming halal products is a religious obligation and necessity for Muslims. However, this is a significant challenge in Muslim minority countries due to limited access to halal cuisines in public places. This research aims to understand the process of audience acceptance in countries with minority Muslims regarding the need for consumption following halal principles. Researchers employ audience acceptance theory in analyzing research problems and an analysis technique coined by Stuart Hall. The data was obtained through the use of research instruments in the form of guided discussions, based on the constructivist paradigm through the employment of data reduction, data presentation, and validation process. The results of the guided discussions indicated that each participant interpreted media messages in three possible positions: dominant, negotiation, and opposition. These differences in interpretation were influenced by various individual backgrounds, including where they lived, their views, and their experiences. The findings indicate that, in terms of acceptance of halal food in Muslim-minority countries, the majority of participants consider information about halal food to be important in maintaining their religious beliefs, particularly through online platforms such as websites and Instagram.

Abstract

Not many media products are able to reveal the other side of a particular ethnic identity and entity. However, the Horrific-Ngeri Sedap film manages to present the uniqueness of one of the tribes in Indonesia, namely the Batak tribe. The film directed by Dion Rajagukguk won seven awards at the 2022 Indonesian Journalist Film Festival (FFWI). Through this film, people are taught about the importance of maintaining emotional bonds in a family for the sake of the integrity of relationships. This study aims to see the role of the dimension of relational expression and assertive communication style using Tzvetan Todorov's narrative analysis method. The results of this study indicate that the affective and collectivism cultural dimensions dominate the Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap films which are at the same time cultural characteristics inherent in the lives of Indonesian people.
