Abstract

The use of scaning protocol with high dose and low dose in CT scan would affect the quality of the images obtained. Because of the importance of good radiographic images in the enforcement of proper patient diagnosis, then performed an analysis of the image quality obtained from both protocols.Image quality assessment of high-dose protocols and low doses for routine head examinations carried out through performance analysis using the AAPM CT phantom performance, comparison of the value of GM conspicuity and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) of the image of the patient as well as comparison of gray scale images through image histogram comparison phantom homogeneous and patient image histogram. Results of analysis of the performance of the two protocols by assessing the accuracy of the CT number, noise, low contrast resolution and spatial resolution showed that high-dose protocol has better performance than low-dose protocol. Image with high-dose protocol has an average GM conspicuity of 0.3863 and CNR 7.0105, while the image with a low dose of 0.4144 and 6.2725 at CNR. Comparison of gray scale image of the protocol through the image histogram comparison homogeneous phantom and patient image shows that the image of a low-dose protocol has variation of intensity gray value that is wider than high-dose protocol. Keywords: Computed Tomography, scaning protocol, image quality, GM conspicuity, CNR

Abstract

Percentage depth dose at the Linac has not reached 100% on the surface and should be made an effort to treat skin cancer or skin cancer that is closer to the surface so that the maximum dose obtained cancer, one of the efforts is the use of bolus. The research reviewer feasibility of using polydimethylsiloxane as materials bolus in radiotherapy. Bolus made with a thickness of 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm with a size of 11x11 cm2, tomography image is then taken using a CT-scan to determine the CT-number that is used to calculate the density and compared to the density of mass and volume ratio. Bolus irradiated with electron 8 MeV at 100 MU for 60 seconds and measured the dose absorbed at a depth of 0; 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0 and 2.5 cm. The result of the calculation using the CT-number density is 1.24 ± 0.02 g /cm3 and the density calculation results using the ratio of the mass and volume was 1.25 ± 0.01 g / cm. Absorbed dose at the surface with the use of a bolus of 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm by 82.09%; 85.13%, 89.12% and 93.48%, while without using bolus which showed the value of absorbed dose amounted to 78.23%. Absorbed dose at a depth of 2.5 cm with the use of a bolus of 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm by 79.84%; 49.26%; 34.52% and 17.80%, while without using bolus which showed the value of absorbed dose amounted to 88.68%.These results show the density of the bolus polydimethyl siloxane has similarities with soft tissue density and may increase the dose of the surface and reduce the dose depth so polydimethyl siloxane may be one of the reference materials that can be used as a bolus in radiotherapy.

Abstract

During radiotherapy treatment, critical organs are shielded using cerrobend blocks. The objective of this study was to define the minimal thickness of cerrobend blocks so that the relative absorbed dose in target less than 5%. All measurements were performed using linac Siemens/Primus Mclass 5633. Phantom relative absorbed dose were measured for square field 10 x 10 cm2. The thickness of cerrobend blocks were 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mm. The measurements in water were performed using compact chamber fitted with acrylic build up caps. The minimal thickness of cerrobend blocks for 5, 10 and 14 MeV electron beams are 2, 4 and 6 mm, respectively. The relative absorbed dose for phantom’s surface, maximum depth and x-ray tail using those blocks are 0.12%, 0.16%, 0.21%, 2.18%, 1.56%, 1.16%, 2.92%, 2.47% dan 1.70%.The relative absorbed dose decreases with the increasing of cerrobend block  thickness and phantom depth. Therefore, if cerrobend blocks are used to protect critical organs, the thickness should be taken into account accurately. Keywords: cerrobend blocks, relative absorbed dose, electron beams
