Abstract

Students must possess 21st century abilities, including the ability to think critically and creatively, in order for education to be developed for this century. Teaching materials are required to support students' learning as they develop these skills. The development of the 21st century cannot be separated from technological developments which are developing rapidly so that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based teaching materials are very popular to use. The goal of the study was to ascertain how STEM-based instructional materials affected students' capacity for critical and creative thought. The research method used is meta-analysis of 22 national and international journal articles. The research results obtained are with variations in the level of educational units, teaching material subjects, critical and creative thinking skills as well as the variety of teaching materials used state that the use of STEM-based teaching materials has a significant influence on students' critical and creative thinking skills. The conclusion from this meta-analysis research is that there is a significant influence from the use of STEM-based teaching materials on students' critical and creative thinking skills

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of an ethnobiology learning model based on design thinking on students' critical thinking skills. The research is a type of quasi-experimental research with a randomized control group pretest-postest design. The population of this study came from SMA Negeri 12 Kerinci. The research sample came from two classes, namely class XI MIPA (experimental class) and class MIPA 3 (control class) totaling 42 students. The experimental class group used the ethnobiology learning model while the control class group used the conventional learning model. The sampling technique is random sampling. The research instrument was an objective test of critical thinking skills. Data analysis was quantitative statistical analysis with the help of SPSS version 26. The results of this study showed that the average value of posttest and N-gain critical thinking skills of classes that obtained ethnobiology learning based on design thinking was better than classes that used conventional learning. The t-test results show that the ethnobiology learning model based on design thinking has an effect on critical thinking skills sig. < 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). Students' thinking skills in the experimental class obtained an average score of 82.30 with an N-gain value of 0.72

Abstract

The low scores of Pisa and TIMSS Indonesia show that students' abilities are still weak in 3 categories, namely linguistic literacy, scientific literacy, and mathematical literacy. To measure how far the achievement of student competence can be used assessment essay. Therefore this study aims to see the effect of essay assessment on students' competency achievement in science learning. This study used the literature review method through searches on Google Scholar and ERIC with the keywords "student competency achievement", "Essay Assessment", and "scoring". As research subjects, 16 articles were used which had been extracted from 1000 articles in national journals and international journals between 2019 and 2023. The results showed that the use of assessment essays based on educational level, namely at the high school level had a percentage of 62.5% while at the university level has a percentage of 60%. Furthermore, based on the material, it can be seen that the percentage of using assessment essays in biology and physics subjects obtained a percentage of 60%. So it can be concluded that Essay Assessment has an influence on the Achievement of Student Competence in Science Learning.

Abstract

A concise the purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model on the problem solving skills of science education students. A total of 950 studies were analyzed obtained from six databases consisting of ScienceDirect, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), Wiley Journal, Springer; ProQuest and IEEE aim to get relevant articles published in 2020-2023.  From the analyzed studies, 21 studies were selected for meta-analysis.  Data analysis with JSAP software.  The results showed that the flipped classroom model provides high effectiveness on the problem solving skills of science education students (rRE = 0.97; 95 % CI [0.840; 1.111]; p < 0.001). This finding provides information for teachers to apply the flipped classroom model to improve students' problem solving skills in learning

Abstract

This research examines the effect of project-based learning (PjBL) assisted by ethnoscience animation videos on students problem-solving skills and their Pancasila character profile in science education. The study employed a quasi-experimental design to evaluate the impact of independent variables (PjBL and animated videos) on dependent variables (problem-solving skills and character development). The research objectives were to assess the effectiveness of the PjBL model in improving problem-solving skills and to determine its role in developing Pancasila character dimensions in students. The study involved students from classes VII-1 and VII-6 at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Middle School as the sample. Data collection included test instruments to measure problem-solving abilities and non-test instruments for assessing character dimensions of the Pancasila student profile. Results showed significant differences in the average scores of problem-solving skills between the experimental and control classes, with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.00 < 0.05. Similarly, for the Pancasila student profile dimensions, the significance value was also 0.00 < 0.05, indicating a significant improvement in the experimental group. These findings confirm that the PjBL model assisted by ethnoscience animation videos is valid, practical, and effective for improving both problem-solving skills and character development. In conclusion, integrating PjBL with ethnoscience animation videos addresses the challenges in science education by aligning with skill-based and culturally relevant learning approaches. The model supports students cognitive and character development, making it suitable for application in the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) has been widely recognized for its positive impact on teaching practices, yet its foundational concepts and relationship with students cultural backgrounds, diversity, and specific implementation in science education to foster technopreneurship remain underexplored. This study addresses this gap by systematically identifying and constructing the concept of CRT and its integration with technopreneurship in science education using the PRISMA systematic literature review method. Data were collected from reputable international and national journal articles published between 2018 and 2023. The findings reveal that CRT in science education serves as a framework for teaching that integrates students knowledge, experiences, cultural backgrounds, and environments with scientific methods while respecting individual diversity. Effective implementation requires teachers commitment and skills to create inclusive learning environments tailored to diverse student characteristics. Importantly, CRT inspires students to design technological innovations that address cultural challenges, thereby fostering entrepreneurial interest and capabilities. This study contributes novel insights into how CRT in science education bridges cultural understanding and technopreneurship development, offering a transformative approach to science teaching that aligns with global and local educational needs.

Abstract

The development of 21st-century technology demands more interactive and student-centered learning. However, preliminary studies at SMAN 2 Painan showed that students' critical thinking skills on heat were still low. This was due to the teacher-centered learning style, which resulted in students being less active, and the media used did not support exploration and discovery of concepts. To address these issues, this study developed an interactive, inquiry-based learning media supported by Google Sites. The development process followed the Dick and Carey model, with expert validation and practicality testing on 30 students and 3 Physics teachers. The validation results showed a Cohen's Kappa value of 0.96 (very valid), while the practicality test produced a value of 0.88 (very practical). These findings suggest that Google Sites can be an effective alternative to support inquiry-based learning and improve students' critical thinking skills. Consequently, this media can be used as an adaptive and accessible digital learning innovation. However, this study was limited to a small sample size, focused on only one topic, and did not examine the long-term impact of media use.

Abstract

Assessment of students’ critical thinking abilities is a crucial component of 21st-century learning. This study aims to design an electronic assessment instrument to evaluate students’ critical thinking skills in the topic of static fluid using a summative assessment approach. The instrument consists of twenty multiple-choice questions developed based on Ennis’s critical thinking indicators. The research employed the Plomp model, which includes three stages: preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment development. Validation by three experts indicated a high level of validity (Aiken’s V = 0.83), while the practicality test showed positive responses from both students (83.9) and teachers (88.4). The reliability coefficient was 0.75 (high category), with items categorized as easy to moderate in difficulty and adequate in discrimination power (0.36). This study contributes by providing a digital-based assessment tool that supports the measurement of higher-order thinking in physics education. However, the study was limited by a small sample size and testing conducted only on static fluid material. Future research is recommended to expand the sample and apply the instrument across different physics topics to enhance its generalizability.
