Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to explore how Generation Z in East Java interprets and internalises financial values transmitted by millennial parents amid the dominance of digital technology and social media. Specifically, it examines how family financial teachings are renegotiated in the context of digital algorithms, peers, and contemporary consumer culture.Methodology – A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed to explore Gen Z's lived experiences of financial socialization. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with 25 Gen Z individuals and several millennial parents. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used to generate themes and interpret meaning-making processes across cases.Findings – Four primary themes were discerned: (1) parental modeling, wherein daily financial routines cultivated prudence and budgeting skills; (2) financial conversations, characterized by dialogic negotiation that promoted reasoning and deferred gratification; (3) digital finance negotiation, where participants integrated parental norms with fintech practices, resulting in hybrid financial values; and (4) identity and social comparison, illustrating the tensions between familial values and social media-induced lifestyle pressures.Contribution – Financial value internalization among Indonesian Gen Z is both intergenerational and sociotechnical. The findings point out the need for financial education that integrates digital literacy, awareness of algorithmic influence, and strategies to manage social comparison pressures.

Abstract

Background: Acyanotic congenital heart diseases (CHDs) namely, atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD), and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) are prevalent in children and often associated with malnutrition due to increased metabolic demands and feeding difficulties. Aims: This study evaluated the incidence, characteristics, and nutritional outcomes of paediatric patients undergoing repair for acyanotic CHD at RSUD Dr. Soetomo in 2023. Methods: A retrospective observational study included 40 children aged 1–13 years with ASD, VSD, PDA, or combinations thereof. Data on age, sex, and anthropometric parameters including weight-for-age (WAZ), height-for-age (HAZ), weight-for-height (WHZ), and BMI-for-age (BAZ) were assessed before and at 1, 3, and 6 months post-repair. Results: PDA was the most frequent diagnosis (50%), with females comprising 60% of cases and most patients (62.5%) under 5 years. Before repair, 71.4% were underweight and 60% were stunted (mean WAZ –2.58; HAZ –2.3). Nutritional recovery occurred gradually; at 6 months, normal WAZ increased to 58.8% and normal HAZ to 65%, though 38.2% remained underweight and 35% stunted. Conclusion: Repair intervention improves but does not fully normalize nutritional status. Ongoing nutritional support and long-term monitoring are essential for optimal recovery in paediatric CHD patients. -- Highlights: 1. Nutritional status among paediatric patients with acyanotic congenital heart disease (ASD, VSD, PDA) significantly improved within 6 months post-repair, especially in weight-for-age and height-for-age indicators, demonstrating the beneficial impact of surgical correction on growth recovery. 2. Despite overall improvement, over one-third of patients remained underweight or stunted six months after repair, emphasizing the need for continued nutritional monitoring and integrated dietary support in post-operative care programs.

Abstract

Purpose: Although residential and waste sector greenhouse gases from urban areas pose urgent challenges for medium-sized cities in developing countries, the latest mitigation studies tend to concentrate on metropolitan areas and sectors. Design/Methodology/Approach: This paper presents a new comparative Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) framework in which cross-sectoral residential and waste strategies come together on the basis of a multistakeholder decision-making model for medium-sized cities in developing countries. Utilizing Mojokerto City, Indonesia as a case study, five criteria emission reduction effectiveness, implementation cost, ease of implementation, public acceptance, and policy support were evaluated for seven mitigation options. We chose 10 purposively selected experts from academics, practitioners, policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and community groups to provide sources of data. Findings: The results show the separation of organic and inorganic waste, as well as processing organic waste, are the most important strategies due to their prominent mitigation effect, behavioral feasibility, and social acceptability. Technological-based and compliance-oriented initiatives ranked among the moderate to lower-ranking measures, as institutional and practical constraints dictate. Originality/Value/Novelty: This study is novel in its interdependency on comparative weighting among multistakeholder analyses which identifies trade-offs, preference divergences, and consensus patterns between actor groups, contributing to an adaptive and replicable priority-setting model for medium-sized cities aiming for inclusive, context-sensitive low-carbon transitions.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Menstrual-related symptoms may affect both physical performance and psychological readiness in female soccer players. However, limited research has examined the association between self-confidence and coping strategies during menstruation in competitive settings. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the association between self-confidence and coping strategies among female soccer players during menstruation. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional correlational design was employed involving 24 female soccer players. Self-confidence was measured using the Trait Sport Confidence Inventory (TSCI), while coping strategies were assessed using the Brief COPE Inventory. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk test, and Pearson correlation analysis. Results: Participants showed relatively high levels of self-confidence (M = 21.04, SD = 1.90) and coping strategies (M = 27.08, SD = 2.32). A very strong positive correlation was found between the two variables (r = 0.858, p < 0.01), indicating a large effect size. Conclusion:  Coping strategies were strongly associated with self-confidence among female soccer players during menstruation. These findings suggest the importance of psychological factors in supporting athletes’ adaptation to physiological challenges, although causal relationships cannot be inferred due to the cross-sectional design.

Abstract

Background: Although coaching leadership has been widely examined in team sports, empirical evidence in individual martial arts, particularly wushu taolu, remains limited. Moreover, previous studies have typically focused on single psychological outcomes, such as motivation or satisfaction, rather than simultaneously examining multiple dimensions. Therefore, it remains unclear whether coaching leadership styles influence intrinsic motivation, training discipline, and athlete satisfaction in individual sport contexts. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the influence of coaching leadership styles on intrinsic motivation, training discipline, and athlete satisfaction among wushu taolu athletes. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed involving 33 Wushu Taolu athletes from East Java selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using standardised Likert-scale instruments, including an adapted Leadership Scale for Sports (LSS; 12 items), Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI; 22 items), training discipline indicators (10 items), and Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ; 15 items). All instruments demonstrated acceptable reliability (Cronbach’s α > 0.70). Data were analysed using multiple linear regression at a 5% significance level. Results: The findings revealed that coaching leadership styles did not have a significant effect on intrinsic motivation, training discipline, or athlete satisfaction (p > 0.05). The regression models explained only a small proportion of variance across all dependent variables, indicating very weak predictive power. Conclusion: These results suggest that coaching leadership style alone may not be a strong predictor of psychological outcomes in wushu taolu athletes. Further research with larger samples and additional variables is needed to better understand the determinants of athlete motivation, training discipline, and satisfaction in individual sport contexts.

Abstract

Background: Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is the most common chronic rheumatic disease in children, characterized by joint inflammation lasting ≥6 weeks in individuals aged <16 years without a clear etiology. Despite advances in research on genetic, immunological, and environmental factors, its pathogenesis remains incompletely understood. In Indonesia, epidemiological data and clinical characteristics of JIA are still limited. This study aimed to describe the demographic profile and clinical characteristics of JIA patients at the pediatrics outpatient clinic of a tertiary referral hospital in Indonesia from 2021 to 2023.Methods: A descriptive retrospective study was conducted to evaluate medical records of patients who met the diagnostic criteria for JIA based on the International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) classification. Results: Of the 73 JIA patients, most were male (60.3%) and belonged to the age group >132–216 months (32.9%). Most patients were domiciled in Surabaya (35.6%). The most common chief complaint was joint pain (71.2%), and 58.9% had joint involvement involving <5 joints, suggesting an oligoarthritis subtype. Most patients’ vital signs were within normal limits, while anemia (58.9%) and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (80.8%) were the dominant laboratory findings. Conclusion: The majority of JIA patients were late-adolescent boys (132–216 months) presenting with pain and an oligoarthritis subtype. These findings highlight the importance of early detection and appropriate referral to prevent long-term complications.

Abstract

The  purpose  of  the study. This study aimed to analyze and standardize lower-limb explosive power and maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂max) in male volleyball athletes aged 17–21 years in East Java, Indonesia, in order to establish normative reference values for athlete selection, performance evaluation, and training program development. Materials and methods. This study employed a descriptive quantitative research design involving 50 male volleyball athletes recruited from regional training centers and sports senior high schools in East Java. Lower-limb explosive power was assessed using the Standing Board Jump Test, while VO₂max was estimated using the Multistage Fitness Test (beep test). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum), normality testing (Kolmogorov–Smirnov), and norm-referenced classification based on mean ± SD intervals using IBM SPSS Statistics. Results. The results showed that lower-limb explosive power ranged from 2.19 to 2.82 m (mean ± SD: 2.54 ± 0.13 m), while VO₂max ranged from 29.9 to 53.3 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹ (mean ± SD: 38.28 ± 3.67 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹). A five-tier norm classification system (Very Good, Good, Moderate, Poor, Very Poor) was successfully developed. The Moderate category was identified as the minimum performance standard, with values of 2.48–2.60 m for explosive power and 36.45–40.11 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹ for VO₂max. Conclusions. This study provides standardized normative values for lower-limb explosive power and VO₂max in adolescent male volleyball athletes, offering an evidence-based framework for athlete selection, physical readiness assessment, and performance monitoring. These findings can support the development of more effective and objective training and talent identification systems in volleyball.
