Abstract

Skill labs are an important means for students to practice clinical skills, prepare them to achieve competency standards during their undergraduate education, and prepare themselves before entering professional education. Skill lab involves practicing communication skills, physical examination, as well as medical actions and invasive procedures. This study aims to determine the performance of clinical Skill lab instructors during the Covid-19 pandemic at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI), Class of 2019. Using a cross-sectional design, all respondents filled out a questionnaire through the Google Form application. Of the 155 respondents, 96.1% rated the instructor's teaching skills as good and very good, 92.9% rated the instructor's interpersonal and communication skills as good, and 92.9% rated the clinical skills training conditions or strategies at FK UMI as good. In general, the performance of clinical Skill lab instructors during the Covid-19 pandemic at FK UMI Class of 2019 is considered good based on student perceptions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between smoking habits and the incidence of Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) in patients at Puskesmas Mandai, Maros Regency. Using quantitative methods with a correlation analytic approach and cross-sectional design, data were collected from 105 respondents from September to October 2022. The results showed that most ARI patients were children under 10 years old (51.4%), with a higher prevalence in males (58.1%). In terms of smoking status, all secondary smokers (50.5%) and the majority of tertiary smokers (37.1%) experienced ARI, while only 7.6% of primary smokers experienced ARI. Statistical analysis showed a significant association between smoking and ARI incidence (p-value less than 0.05). This finding confirms that smoking, especially in the family environment, contributes significantly to the increased incidence of ARI. It is recommended that Puskesmas Mandai conduct socialization about the dangers of smoking and further research with more respondents for more specific and comprehensive results.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS) in the family with the incidence of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) in toddlers at Puskesmas Mandai, Maros Regency. Using a quantitative approach with a correlation analytic method, this study involved 58 toddlers aged 0-5 years who were diagnosed with ARI. The results showed that 58.6% of respondents were male, with the largest age group 0-12 months (25.9%). 74.1% of the toddlers were not exclusively breastfed, and 80.9% were underweight. In addition, 75.7% of respondents did not have the habit of washing hands with soap, and 94.8% lived in an environment with active smokers. Bivariate analysis showed a significant association between the PHBS variables and the incidence of ARI, with P values less than 0.05 for all variables. These results suggest that the implementation of exclusive breastfeeding, routine weighing of toddlers, hand washing with soap, and not smoking in the house play an important role in reducing the incidence of ARI. Therefore, health centers are advised to increase the socialization of PHBS and education about the dangers of smoking, as well as encourage the community to apply clean living behavior in everyday life. This study is expected to be the basis for improving health programs at Puskesmas Mandai and increasing public awareness about the importance of PHBS in preventing ARI.

Abstract

Endometriosis adalah penyakit di mana jaringan mirip dinding rahim tumbuh di luar rahim, menyebabkan peradangan dan jaringan parut. Kurkumin, senyawa aktif dalam kunyit, memiliki potensi besar sebagai pengobatan alternatif. Penelitian ini mengkaji berbagai studi tentang efek anti-inflamasi kurkumin pada endometriosis. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan bahwa kurkumin dapat menghambat proses peradangan dengan menekan produksi zat-zat peradangan seperti prostaglandin dan TNF-α. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa Kurkumin dapat membantu mengendalikan pertumbuhan jaringan abnormal pada endometriosis. Selain itu, kurkumin juga memiliki profil keamanan yang baik, dengan efek samping yang minimal dan rentang dosis yang luas, sehingga aman digunakan dalam jangka panjang.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a contagious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacterium primarily affects the lungs, but it can also spread to other organs. One of the most commonly found forms of extrapulmonary tuberculosis is Tuberculous Lymphadenitis, which is a TB infection that affects the lymph nodes, especially in the cervical (neck) region. There are many factors that can contribute to the development of this disease. This study aims to identify the factors that influence the occurrence of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Central General Hospital in Makassar during the period of 2021 to 2023. This quantitative research uses a cross-sectional approach to determine the risk factors—age, gender, nutritional status, history of tuberculosis, history of contact, diabetes mellitus, HIV status, immunization status, and hypertension—associated with the occurrence of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis. Data collection began with identifying TB cases, followed by tracing the associated risk factors that may lead to Tuberculous Lymphadenitis. The study population included all patients diagnosed with Tuberculous Lymphadenitis at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Central General Hospital from January to December in the years 2021–2023. The sampling technique used was quota sampling, a non-probability method based on non-random selection of a specific number or proportion of participants. A total of 422 samples that met the inclusion criteria were included in the study.The results showed that age, gender, nutritional status, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and BCG immunization had a significant relationship with the incidence of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis. In contrast, history of tuberculosis, HIV status, and history of contact did not show a significant association with the disease.
