Abstract

Smallholder Arabica coffee in South Tapanuli Regency has strong potential as a leading commodity; However, farmers face persistent challenges, including weak bargaining power and unequal value distribution along the marketing chain. This study aims to analyze the structure of the Arabica coffee marketing chain, examine farmers' perceptions of the marketing system, and identify factors influencing farmers' income. The research was conducted from March to April 2025 in Simanosor, within the Darul Mursyid Islamic Boarding School (PDM) area, South Tapanuli Regency. A quantitative descriptive method was applied using purposive sampling of 30 Arabica coffee farmers. Data analysis included descriptive analysis of the marketing chain, Likert scale measurement for farmers' perceptions, and multiple linear regression to determine income-influencing factors. The results indicate that all farmers sell their harvest as red cherries, with an average price of IDR 17,450/kg and an average annual net income of IDR 103,516,667. Farmers' perceptions of the marketing system are categorized as very positive, with an average score of 4.91 out of 5. Regression analysis reveals that selling price and production volume significantly affect farmers' income, while cooperative access and price information access do not. The model's R² value of 0.741 shows that 74.1% of income variation is explained by the variables. These findings highlight the importance of improving productivity and stabilizing farm-gate prices to enhance farmers' income.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is a strategic food crop that requires an adequate supply of essential nutrients, particularlynitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, to support optimal growth and yield. The increasing accumulation ofcandlenut shells, which are difficult to decompose due to their high lignin content, has contributed toenvironmental pollution. Processing candlenut shells into ash or biochar can enhance their value. Both candlenutshell ash and biochar can serve as soil ameliorants, improving soil fertility by increasing soil pH, organic carbon, and cation exchange capacity (CEC), especially in ultisol soils characterized by low fertility. Ultisol soils aretypically acidic, have high aluminum saturation, and low CEC. Ash, an inorganic material rich in calcium, isproduced through complete combustion, whereas biochar is a carbon-rich material generated via pyrolysis. Thisstudy aimed to evaluate the effects of candlenut shell ash and biochar on the availability of N, P, and K nutrientsin corn (Zea mays L.) cultivated in Samosir Regency. The research was conducted in Pangururan, Samosir Regency, from June to November 2024. The results demonstrated that applying candlenut shell ash and biochar asameliorants enhanced corn growth. Candlenut shell ash was more effective than biochar at improving NPKfertilizer efficiency. Specifically, the application of candlenut shell ash at 10 tons per hectare, combined with asingle NPK fertilizer dose (treatment A12), yielded the best corn growth. Based on these findings, the use ofcandlenut shell ash is recommended for corn cultivation on ultisol soils, as it more effectively increases nutrientavailability and plant growth, thereby potentially enhancing corn productivity sustainably.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of the most important plantation crops in Indonesia, and requireseffective soil and nutrient management to achieve optimal productivity. This survey aimed to evaluate soil andleaf nutrient status in oil palm plantations managed by smallholders in Linggabayu District, Mandailing NatalRegency, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. Data were collected through field observations and soil and leafsampling in Batuloting Village, Banjar Selamat, and Padang Silojongan, with 10 trees sampled at each location. Allsamples were analyzed at the PT Socfin Indonesia (SOCFINDO) Laboratory to determine the macronutrient contentof nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and magnesium (Mg). The results showed that soil N, P, and Klevels at most locations were low to very low, while Mg levels ranged from low to high. Leaf tissue analysisrevealed that nitrogen content was generally within the optimal range at almost all locations, except in BanjarSelamat Village and Padang Silojongan, where deficiency symptoms were observed. Phosphorus content in leavesranged from adequate to optimal, while potassium content varied from low to optimal across sampling locations.Magnesium levels in leaves were relatively adequate, although a small percentage of samples still indicateddeficiencies. These findings suggest that, despite generally limited soil fertility, oil palm plants can effectivelyabsorb nutrients. This condition is supported by current fertilization practices and the physiological adaptabilityof oil palm plants to efficiently utilize soil nutrients. Therefore, site-specific nutrient management, particularlyfor N, P, and K, is recommended to improve soil fertility and maintain oil palm productivity in smallholderplantations.

Abstract

Soil quality describes the suitability of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil that together function as a medium for plant growth. The Alberta Soil Quality Card is one method for evaluating soil quality through soil quality indicators, such as organic matter content, drainage, water-holding capacity, soil microorganisms, and erosion. This research was conducted to evaluate the Inceptisols soil quality of horticulture land in Titi Papan, Medan Deli District, based on the indicators listed in the Alberta Soil Quality Card to obtain appropriate soil management recommendations based on the evaluation results. The results of soil quality observation in the horticultural land of Titi Papan, Medan Deli District, indicate that the preferred score (P) is found in the indicators of plant/weed strength, nurseries, soil fertility, and salinity. A medium score (M) is obtained in the indicators of residue cover, organic material color, drainage/infiltration, aggregation, and soil life, including the presence of worms, compaction/rooting, and water erosion. The limiting factor with a low score (L) is obtained in the indicator of water holding capacity.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the value of love in the learning process of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) as part of efforts to foster students’ religious and social character. This study employs a qualitative approach using the library research method. Data were obtained through the review of books, journal articles, and previous studies relevant to the focus of the research. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive-interpretative approach to examine the theoretical construction of love value indicators, the evaluation model in the psychomotor domain, and its implications for students’ prosocial behavior. The findings indicate that the value of love in PAI learning encompasses spiritual, social, and ecological dimensions that can be operationalized into evaluation indicators. The internalization of the value of love has been shown to have a close relationship with the improvement of students’ prosocial behavior, such as empathy, cooperation, and social concern. These findings emphasize the importance of authentic evaluation in PAI learning oriented toward the formation of noble character.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of reflection and self-assessment in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning based on the Kurikulum Merdeka in enhancing students’ spiritual awareness and religious character. This research employs a qualitative library research approach by examining relevant books, scientific journals, and contemporary educational studies. The findings indicate that the integration of reflective activities such as reflective journals, group discussions, and spiritual portfolio encourages students to internalize Islamic values beyond cognitive understanding. Furthermore, the implementation of self-assessment through religious attitude sheets, worship evaluation scales, and value-based rubrics strengthens students’ self-regulated learning and moral responsibility. Reflection and self-assessment contribute significantly to the development of self-awareness, improved quality of worship, honesty, and consistent spiritual behavior. These strategies transform assessment from a judgment-oriented process into a growth-oriented and reflective practice aligned with the dimension of faith and noble character within the curriculum framework. Therefore, reflection and self-assessment function not merely as evaluation tools but as transformative pedagogical approaches to foster authentic spiritual consciousness and sustainable religious character formation among students.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) plays a strategic role in shaping students’ religious character; however, learning evaluation in IRE remains predominantly cognitive-oriented, often neglecting affective dimensions that are central to character formation. This condition creates a gap between the ideal objectives of Islamic education and assessment practices in classrooms. Responding to this issue, this study aims to analyze the integration of affective assessment within love-based curriculum in Islamic Religious Education, examine its design and implementation, and explore its contribution to students religious character development. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research with a descriptive-conceptual design. Data were collected from scholarly journals, policy documents, and academic publications relevant to affective assessment, character education, Islamic education, and love-based curriculum. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis through data reduction, thematic categorization, and conceptual synthesis. The findings indicate that affective assessment based on a love-based curriculum shifts the assessment paradigm from judgment-oriented evaluation to humanistic and process-oriented assessment. Such integration emphasizes empathy, compassion, reflection, and meaningful teacher student relationships, enabling the internalization of Islamic values in students daily behavior. Furthermore, well-designed and authentically implemented affective assessment contributes significantly to the development of students religious character, including spiritual awareness, moral responsibility, and social ethics. This study implies that affective assessment should be positioned as an integral pedagogical instrument in Islamic Religious Education to support holistic and transformative learning aligned with the principles of love-based education.
