Abstract

Legal protection provided by the Republic of Indonesia to Rohingya refugees aims to ensure a decent standard of living despite Indonesia not being a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol. The study applies a normative juridical method by examining national legislation, Philipus M. Hadjon’s theory of legal protection, and international refugee law principles, particularly Non-Refoulement and Non-Discrimination. Findings indicate that legal protection remains confined to Presidential Regulation No. 125 of 2016, which regulates the discovery, sheltering, security measures, and immigration supervision of refugees. However, the absence of specific regulations establishing minimum standards for temporary accommodation results in suboptimal preventive and repressive protection by the government. The study concludes that clear and comprehensive regulations on temporary accommodation standards are required as part of the state’s responsibility to ensure adequate legal protection for Rohingya refugees within its jurisdiction.

Abstract

Background: Flood-prone areas present significant public health challenges, particularly in urbanized regions where inadequate drainage systems and water stagnation create ideal breeding grounds for disease vectors such as mosquitoes. This study investigates the relationship between flood risks and mosquito habitat proliferation in Gowa, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Methods: By combining a comprehensive field survey with Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial mapping, the study aimed to identify environmental and infrastructural factors contributing to mosquito breeding, particularly Aedes aegypti, the primary vector for dengue and Zika virus. Findings: The results revealed that areas with poorly managed drainage systems and stagnant water were high-risk zones for mosquito breeding, correlating with increased mosquito densities and higher disease transmission potential. The study also found that rapid urbanization, combined with insufficient waste management, further exacerbates the risk by providing numerous breeding sites for mosquitoes. The findings support global observations that similar challenges in other tropical regions, including Brazil and Indonesia, contribute to the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. Conclusion: This research highlights the critical role of environmental infrastructure in controlling vector-borne diseases and emphasizes the need for improved urban planning, integrated vector control strategies—including better drainage infrastructure, community education, and regular sanitation practices—to reduce mosquito breeding sites. Overall, it provides valuable insights for local authorities and public health organizations, offering a framework for targeted interventions in flood-prone areas. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this study lies in combining GIS spatial mapping with field surveys to directly link flood-prone urban infrastructure and environmental factors to mosquito habitat proliferation, providing a framework for targeted, location-specific public health interventions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of Teachable Machine, an AI-based tool, in enhancing vocational high school students' understanding of classification concepts in machine learning. Given the increasing importance of AI in education, particularly in vocational settings, this study aims to investigate how interactive learning tools can foster deeper conceptual understanding and improve engagement in technical fields. This experimental study involved two groups of vocational high school students: an experimental group using Teachable Machine and a control group receiving traditional classroom instruction. The students' understanding of classification concepts was measured using pre-tests and post-tests, supplemented by qualitative observations of student engagement. Statistical analyses, including paired t-tests and Cohen’s d for effect size, were conducted to assess the difference in learning outcomes between the groups. The experimental group showed significant improvement in post-test scores compared to the control group. The paired t-test results indicated a larger effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.55) for the experimental group, demonstrating a substantial improvement in their understanding of classification concepts. Qualitative observations also revealed higher levels of student engagement and motivation in the experimental group. The study highlights the potential of AI-based tools to improve learning outcomes in vocational education. However, limitations include the small sample size and the short duration of the intervention, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. Future research should explore the long-term effects and compare different AI tools. This study provides valuable evidence of the effectiveness of AI-based learning tools in vocational education, contributing to the growing body of research on AI applications in education. It also offers insights for integrating interactive learning tools into vocational curricula to enhance student engagement and understanding.

Abstract

Palm Crude Oil (CPO) production generates substantial waste, including Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE), which is difficult to recycle. This research explores the stabilization of SBE using seashells for use in concrete mixtures. The goal is to enhance concrete’s durability by utilizing the calcium content in stabilized SBE. In this study, we tested concrete with a design strength of 30 MPa. The tests included compressive strength on 150x300 mm cylinders, flexural strength on 600x150x150 mm beams after 28 days of curing, and water blasting resistance using two methods. The water blasting test assessed the concrete’s resistance to water pressure on 500 x 350 x 50 mm samples over three consecutive days. The results showed that concrete with a 7.5% SBE variation achieved a compressive strength of 42.06 MPa, higher than the design strength. Flexural strength increased by 4.67% with a 10% variation in SBE. However, the water blasting tests revealed that both concrete variations exhibited greater damage than normal concrete, indicating that while SBE improves compressive and flexural strength, it may reduce the concrete’s water resistance.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to determine and analyze legal protection for the use of copyrighted scientific works and examine the legal consequences and factors that cause copyright infringement of scientific works, particularly in Makassar City. This study uses an empirical normative legal research method with a field approach that combines the study of legal materials with facts that occur in society. The data used consists of primary data obtained through interviews with relevant parties in government agencies and academic environments, as well as secondary data obtained through library studies of various relevant literature and legal materials. The renewal of this study lies in the effort to examine in an integrated manner between aspects of legal protection, the practice of using scientific works in academic environments, and social and technological factors that influence the occurrence of copyright infringement. The results of this study indicate that protection of scientific works is not only normative, but also includes administrative and ethical protection that develops in academic practice. Various forms of violations can occur, such as plagiarism, use of works without citing sources, duplication of works without permission, and changes to works without the creator's consent. Abstract

Background: After-market services are often overshadowed by the significant attention given to pre-sale marketing strategies. In developing economies, such as Indonesia, the lack of after-market service support leads to dwindling repeat purchases and a loss of brand loyalty. The phenomenon underscores the need to evaluate how post-purchase service provision affects long-term customer retention within the automotive industry. Objective: This study aims to identify the direct effect of post-purchase support services on customer loyalty, and to examine the correlations through other potential mediating factors with dual mediation of brand equity and customer satisfaction. This research also attempts to measure the extent to which service-related experience is manifested in the emotional and behavioural aspects of loyalty. Method: A quantitative explanatory design was utilised, with primary data collected from a sample of 105 customers who have had at least two paid service visits at an authorised Honda dealership in Pekanbaru. Using the SEM framework and the Partial Least Squares estimation technique, we can analyse multiple interrelated cause-and-effect relationships. Results: The results demonstrate a substantial positive relationship between post-purchase service quality and customer loyalty (β = 0.53, p < 0.01), alongside significant positive indirect effects via brand equity (β = 0.35) and customer satisfaction (β = 0.29). The existence of positive dual mediating effects indicates that the sustained loyalty intentions construct, service quality perceptions, and emotional attachment to the brand are positively dual-mediating. Conclusion: This study advances the understanding of service-based loyalty mechanisms by empirically validating the strategic leverage of after-sales service in emerging markets. The insights offer actionable guidance for automotive dealership managers to reframe service departments from cost centres into high-impact drivers of customer retention and competitive differentiation. Abstract

Abstract: Agroforestry is a strategy in community forest management that plays an important role in land conservation and food provision. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of farmers, the classification of agroforestry systems, the application of agroforestry patterns, and the types of plants that make up the agroforestry land of farmer groups in Andalambe Village, North Tongauna District, Konawe Regency. This study used a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach, interviews, and field observations. The descriptive method was used to describe the classification of agroforestry system implementation, agroforestry patterns, and types of plants in the study location. The results showed that the agroforestry classification applied by farmers was the agrisilviculture system, with 27% of farmers applying the alternate rows agroforestry pattern and 73% applying the random mixture agroforestry pattern. The types of plants used in agroforestry included forestry plants, plantation plants, and agricultural plants, with a total of fourteen types of plants recorded. The types of plants used were dominated by those for forest and land conservation (23%) and for sustainable local food supply (20%). This study is expected to contribute to the development of a community-based agroforestry forest management model to support forest and land conservation and sustainable food supply.
