Abstract

This The crisis of communication ethics in social media is a complex and systemic contemporary phenomenon, triggered by weak digital literacy, neglect of netiquette, and the dominance of digital platform algorithms. This article analyzes in a multidisciplinary manner how digital structure, virality culture, and lack of regulation contribute to the rise of hate speech, the spread of hoaxes, and aggressive communication behavior in the digital public space. Through a qualitative approach and observation of the platforms TikTok, Instagram, and X (Twitter), this study found that destructive communication behaviors do not stand alone, but rather reinforce each other in a permissive digital ecosystem. The algorithm amplifies extreme content for the sake of emotional engagement, while users are accustomed to social validation that encourages expression, without reflection. Weak regulations and low digital ethics education have also exacerbated this condition. Therefore, this article recommends integrative strategies in the form of algorithmic resistance, regulatory reform, and strengthening digital ethical literacy based on collaboration between governments, platforms, academics, and civil society. With this holistic approach, it is hoped that the digital space can become more ethical, inclusive, and responsible as a representation of modern communication civilization.

Abstract

This study examines the use of hashtags #kaburajadulu as a form of public criticism that is formed and spread through social media algorithms. This hashtag represents the emotional and collective response of people, especially the younger generation, to economic pressures, social inequality, and structural injustice. With a qualitative approach through non-participatory observation and web scraping on platform X (formerly Twitter), the analysis was carried out using Entman's (1993) framing model to identify the narrative construction, the causes of the problem, the moral evaluation, and the form of symbolic solutions offered by netizens. The findings suggest that #kaburajadulu act as an advocacy medium and a digital social therapy space that strengthens emotional solidarity. Additionally, social media algorithms contribute to expanding the reach and pervasiveness of hashtags, making them an effective digital protest tool. This research fills a gap in the literature by highlighting the relationship between public expression of anxiety and the algorithmic mechanisms that determine the visibility of criticism in the digital space. Therefore, viral hashtags such as #kaburajadulu cannot be seen as a momentary phenomenon, but rather as a representation of the construction of collective discourse in the era of algorithm-based communication.

Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of political hate speech carried out by anonymous accounts "fufufafa", focusing on the perspective of communication ethics and its impact on social cohesion. Through a qualitative approach and case study method, an analysis was carried out on the content of the account upload using a critical discourse framework. The results of the study show that hate speech conveyed is systematic, attacks the personal aspects of political figures, and is full of ideological content that emphasizes the moral dichotomy between "us" and "them." Communication strategies such as simplification, labeling, framing, and social agitation are used to negatively shape public opinion and reinforce polarization. From the point of view of communication ethics, the act reflects a moral deviation because it ignores the values of empathy, respect, and social responsibility in digital communication. The psychosocial impacts that are caused include the stigmatization of minority groups, emotional trauma to individuals, and fragmentation in online communities. This research emphasizes the importance of digital literacy, strengthening ethical communication regulations, and public participation to prevent the spread of hate speech and maintain social integration in digital democracy. These findings are expected to be an academic and practical contribution in developing strategies for handling hate speech in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of multiple interpretations of articles in the Electronic Information and Transaction Law (ITE Law) on the intensity of conflicts between social media users. This study is motivated by the rise of legal cases that arise due to subjective interpretations of Article 27 paragraph (3) and Article 28 paragraph (2), which often lead to the criminalization of legitimate expression in the digital space. Using a qualitative method with a case study approach, data was collected through observation and documentation of digital conflict cases. The results of the study show that the multiple interpretations of these articles not only interfere with legal certainty, but also worsen the psychological condition of users and create inequality in law enforcement. This study also found that low digital literacy and the use of articles as a tool of repression also strengthen the escalation of conflicts on social media. Therefore, a participatory and contextual revision of the ITE Law is needed to ensure fair legal protection, while maintaining freedom of expression in the digital era. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of establishing a digital legal corridor that is adaptive, inclusive, and in harmony with the communication dynamics of modern society in order to create a healthy, safe, and democratic public space.

Abstract

This study explores the role of da'wah in responding to the dynamic political landscape in Indonesia. As a form of religious communication deeply rooted in cultural values, da'wah has the potential to shape political behavior, raise awareness, and foster inclusive participation, particularly among marginalized groups such as women. The findings indicate that da'wah serves not only as a medium for conveying moral and ethical principles but also as an instrument for political education and engagement. By utilizing both traditional and digital media, da'wah adapts to contemporary challenges and facilitates dialogue across political divides. However, the study also identifies several challenges, including the risks of misinformation, misinterpretation, and the politicization of religious messages. These issues highlight the need for da'wah practitioners to develop effective communication strategies that are contextually relevant and grounded in both religious knowledge and socio-political understanding. Innovative approaches such as philanthropic da'wah, participatory platforms, and interdisciplinary engagement are emphasized as key to enhancing the impact of da'wah in political discourse. Using a qualitative literature review method this study provides a comprehensive analysis of how da'wah can contribute to building political awareness and democratic values in Indonesia. The study concludes that with the right strategies and ethical foundations, da'wah can become a powerful tool for civic transformation and social cohesion.

Abstract

Tebing Tinggi City in North Sumatra has a close history with the Padang Kingdom and Datuk Bandar Kajum, which later developed into a city with a distinctive culinary identity, namely lemang. Since being introduced by the Minangkabau ethnic group in 1947, lemang has become a widely known city icon, even getting the nickname "Lemang City" since 1958. This study aims to analyze the communication strategy implemented by the Tebing Tinggi City Government Public Relations in building and maintaining the city's image through social media. With a qualitative descriptive approach, this study examines the effectiveness of digital strategies that include creating visual content, storytelling, and interacting with the community. The results of the study show that branding efforts through social media and culinary festivals have succeeded in increasing the appeal of lemang as a culinary icon and strengthening Tebing Tinggi's identity as a gastronomic tourism destination. However, challenges such as content competition and managing public perception remain the main concerns in building a sustainable city brand image.

Abstract

The post-truth era is characterized by the increasing spread of information that prioritizes emotions and opinions over objective facts. Social media serves as the main channel for the distribution of this information, often without adequate supervision, increasing the risk of spreading misinformation. In Indonesia, the complexity of this challenge is increasing along with the high penetration of social media and the low level of digital literacy among the public. This article aims to analyze government policies in dealing with disinformation in the post-truth era through social media regulation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a policy analysis method, which includes a review of existing regulations such as the ITE Law, the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information, and other initiatives related to digital literacy. The results of the study show that existing regulations are not yet fully effective in dealing with disinformation, due to technical challenges, such as platform algorithms that tend to favor sensational content, as well as normative challenges related to freedom of expression. This study also reveals that collaboration between the government, social media platforms, and civil society is essential to creating a healthy digital ecosystem. The proposed recommendations include increasing digital literacy, strengthening regulations based on human rights, and developing technology to detect disinformation. This article contributes to the development of more effective and inclusive policies in facing the challenges of the post-truth era in Indonesia.

Abstract

The increasingly rampant phenomenon of online gambling in the digital space is a serious challenge to fostering community morals, especially among the younger generation. This study aims to examine the competence of Islamic religious instructors in addressing this issue through the use of digital technology, with a focus on Tanjung Tiram District, Batu Bara Regency. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques and analyzed using NVivo software, this study explores the ability of instructors to utilize social media, compile educational content, and build effective da'wah communication in the digital space. The results of the study show that instructors such as Edi Yanto and Kamelia Sambas already possess basic digital competencies that support the effectiveness of da'wah, including the use of Facebook to convey religious messages and warnings about the dangers of online gambling. However, technical limitations, such as mastering visual design and video editing, remain significant obstacles. This study concludes that synergy between religious competence and digital skills is essential for counseling to operate effectively in a digital context and reach digitally active levels of society. These findings provide a basis for developing digital training for religious instructors as part of a da'wah-based social prevention strategy.
