Abstract

This is a literature study on how to improve the quality of English language teaching and learning. Teaching, in general, can give one daily an unbelievable roller coaster ride from the depths of total frustration to the heights of incredible rewards. Teaching is a profession that is given little respect and lots of criticism. English language teaching and learning is an educational process. It requires great preparation and implementation to maintain the interaction between teacher and students. Apart from this, the teacher needs to be skillful in identifying the needs that should be fulfilled and the objectives which should be achieved. Teacher perspective needs to orient itself to the teaching and learning activities that cover selection on the instructional materials being inline with the instructional objectives, approaches, methods, techniques, and suitable tasks and exercises. The study indicates that good English teaching and learning is tied not only to the subject matter in hand but also to the perspective of teaching that upholds the learner-oriented standpoint. It is strongly suggested that English language teaching and learning needs to do more on psycho-motoric domains, in the sense that it encourages students to do more practice in their learning.This is a literature study on how to improve the quality of English language teaching and learning. Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explore possible strategies to ‘insert’ themes of care into Indonesia’s English curriculum. It is stipulated that the English curriculum containing themes of care, ethics and morality can contribute to the advancement of students’ engagement in learning and enable moral reasoning skill toward the generation of responsible members of society upholding values of tolerance and respect for difference of others. This is a library research, employing a qualitative content review of related literature to find strategies for integrating themes of care into English curriculum.  It is found that integrating themes of care into curricular subjects, including English, is very possible to undertake, and provides students with higher order thinking skills in a functional manner. It is of great importance to students as they get benefits from being taught the ways to approach and eventually solve complex, real-life moral problems by applying particular skills drawn from the PAVE moral reasoning strategy. The English curriculum addressing such a long-term outcome for the application of the integration incorporates teaching students how to attain balanced competence, academically, socially and morally all at once.

Abstract

The crash box is a passive safety system placed between the bumper and the mainframe of the car that functions as an energy absorber to reduce the impact of driving accidents. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal level of factors and analyze the factors that provide the most significant effect on energy absorption in a multi-cell hexagonal crash box. Identification of parameters that affect the crash box in energy absorption, namely: the position of placement hole (P), the distance of position hole (L), the thickness of crash box (t), and the hole diameter (D). The modeling method has used the design of the crash box by utilizing a computer simulation with software ANSYS 17.0. This research uses aluminum material type AA 6061-T4 and impactor material uses structural steel. Modeling loading using the frontal crash test method. In this modeling, the impactor with a speed of 7.67 m/s with a deformation length of 100 mm. This research uses the experimental design of the Taguchi method with the L27 orthogonal array. The optimization result were obtained optimum design parameter multi-cell hexagonal crash box with parameter settings P = inner wall; L = 112.5 mm; t = 2 mm, and D = 6.6 mm. Based on the calculated F value ≥ F Table, the factors P, t, and D affect the ability to absorb energy. Thickness crash box (t) has the highest contribution of 98.10% in increasing the value of energy absorption.

Abstract

This paper reveals Gus Dur's ijtihād paradigm of contemporary fiqh in Indonesia in answering the problems of life. This study is a type of library research by tracing Gus Dur's works, Gus Dur's thought studies and other related scientific studies. This research uses the approach of Milton K. Munitz's thinking and the frame of mind ‘Abd al-Majīd al-Najjār. This research found that the conservative ijtihād paradigm has led to conservative fiqh which is unable to establish dialectics between fiqh norms and socio-cultural and humanitarian values, which can even lead to radical Islamic movements and acts of terrorism. Therefore, Gus Dur's contemporary jurisprudential ijtihād paradigm is needed to build this dialectic. Theoretically, the Gus Dur ijtihād paradigm has characteristics promoting different socio-cultural and humanitarian values from Islamic reformers. In practical terms, the Gus Dur ijtihād paradigm has made Indonesian socio-cultural values a consideration in understanding and applying contemporary fiqh without changing existing fiqh norms. Gus Dur's contemporary fiqh has also become the basis for maintaining the Pancasila ideology, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and Unity in Diversity.

Abstract

Objectives of the research were to study and create a technique in producing compost made of organic wastes from the household and its effect on growth and increase productivity of Pak Choi. The research was conducted from January to February 2017 in Karangploso, Malang, East Java. The research applied RBD with 4 replications. The treatments comprised of 2 types, such as compost of household waste that consisted of 3 levels as follow K1 = Organic wastes of household waste 100% + Superdegra decomposer + goat dropping + bran + molasses by dose 0.5 kg/polybag; K2 = Organic waste from household waste 100% + Superdegra decomposer + goat dropping + bran + molasses by dose 1.0 kg/polybag; K3 = Organic waste from household waste 100% + Superdegra decomposer + goat dropping + bran + molasses by dose 1.5 kg/polybag. Treatment of different concentrations of liquid organic fertilizer consisted of three levels that include C1 = 20 ml/500 ml water, C2 = 40 ml/500 ml water, and C3 = 60 ml/500 ml water. Data analysis used Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and followed by LSD  at level 5%. Results of analysis in the laboratory indicated that organic fertilizer from organic waste of the household waste 100% + Superdegra + goat dropping + bran + molasses produced C-organic = 18.89 and C/N-ratio = 17.33. Combination of treatments, which include organic waste (K3C2), will be able to produce Pak Choi 126.38 gram/polybag

Abstract

he purpose of this study is 1) To find out the increase in student motivation byusing audiovisual media in class X students. 2) To find out the increase in student learningoutcomes using audiovisual media in class X.IPA 2 students of SMAN 2 Salatiga on thesubject matter of food crop cultivation in the Workshop and Entrepreneurship even semestersemester 2019/2020. The research subjects in this study are students of class X.IPA 2 SMAN 2Salatiga Pagentan, totaling 33 students. Methods of data collection by testing, observation,and documentation methods. Provision of action in the form of the use of audiovisual media tostudents of class X.IPA 2 of SMAN 2 Salatiga on the subject matter of food crop cultivation inthe Workshop and Entrepreneurship even semester semester 2019/2020 can improve studentmotivation and learning outcomes. Class X.IPA 2 High School 2 Salatiga students' motivationin the cultivation of food crops subject matter in the Workshop and Entrepreneurship in theeven semester of the 2019/2020 academic year only reached only a percentage of 62.37%,after being given an action it increased to 70.96% in the first cycle and in the cycle IIincreased to 81.57%. Student learning outcomes in class X.IPA 2 of SMAN 2 Salatiga on thesubject matter of food crop cultivation in the subjects of Entrepreneurship andEntrepreneurship in the even semester of the academic year 2019/2020.

Abstract

Karya sastra merupakan cerminan kehidupan masyarakat. Novel sebagai salah satu karya sastra menampilkan konflik yang merupakan cerminan atas konflik-konflik yang ada di masyarakat. Salah satu konflik dalam novel yang menarik untuk dikaji adalah konflik agama, karena konflik agama masih banyak terjadi di Indonesia. Salah satu yang memuat konflik agama adalah novel Kantring Genjer-genjer karya Teguh Winarsho AS. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra dan teori konflik Georg Simmel untuk menganalisis bentuk konflik dan penyebab konflik antara kelompok abangan dan santri dalam novel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk konflik dan penyebab konflik dalam novel terdiri atas konflik pertandingan antagonistik, konflik hukum, konflik menenai prinsip-prinsip dasar, konflik kepentingan, dan konflik dalam hubungan intim dan akrab. Literary works are a reflection of people's lives. Novel as one of the literary works that displays conflict that are a reflection of conflicts in the society. One of conflict in the novel that is interesting to study is religious conflict, because religious conflicts still occur in Indonesia frequently. One of novel which discuss the religious conflict is Kantring Genjer-genjer novel by Teguh Winarsho AS. This research is a qualitative research using sociology of literature approach and Georg Simmel's conflict theory to analyze the forms and primary causes of conflict between abangan and santri in the novel. Result of the study reveated that the forms and primary causes of conflict are antagonistic, legal conflicts, conflicts regarding principles, conflicts of interest, and conflict in intimate relationships.

Abstract

The study explores the perspective of multiple assessment methods and possibility of applying it in English language learning. Assessment of English language learning needs to consider the philosophical perspective of progressive education. Assessment in progressive notions of education is primarily used to nurture and develop individual students’ capacity and range of talents. Likewise, the perspective of the 2013 National Curriculum demands students’ real performance on relevant tasks. The study notes that an assessment process refers to implementing multiple methods or a range of strategies to make decisions regarding instruction and gathering information about students’ performance and behaviour, diagnoses students’ problems, monitors their progress and gives feedback for improvement. Rather than a single method of assessment, multiple assessment methods are more beneficial to help the teacher triangulate the evidence for a complete picture of student comprehension and understanding. Every method of assessment has weaknesses, and hence, by using multiple assessment methods, the strengths of one particular method can overcome the problematic weaknesses of another.

Abstract

Tahap utama dalam proses ekstraksi alginat dari alga coklat adalah pre-ekstraksi dengan perlakuan asam. Kondisi pre-ekstraksi perlakuan asam (suhu, waktu dan pH) berpengaruh terhadap sifat fisika-kimia alginatdari alga coklat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pre-ekstraksi perlakuan asam (suhu, waktu dan pH) terhadap viskositas intrinsik alginat dan menentukan kondisi pre-ekstraksi yang memberikan  digunakan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh pre-ekstraksi perlakuan asam (suhu, waktu dan pH) terhadap viskositas intrinsik dan menentukan ketepatan model polynomial orde pertama. Hasil penelitian didapatkan perlakuan suhu, waktu dan pH pre-ekstraksi memberikan efek kuadratik nyata terhadap viscositas intrinsik. Viskositas intrinsik meningkat dengansemakin tinggi suhu, waktu dan derajat pH, kemudian menurun setelah mencapai maksimal. Uji kelengkungan bersifat signifikan (α=0,05) model polinomial orde pertama berbentuk kuadratik. Nilai maksimum respon viskositas intrinsik alginat 502.05 ml/g terjadi pada kondisi pre-ekstraksi perlakuan asam suhu 35 nilai maksimum respon viskositas intrinsik. Abstract

Brown algae can be functioned as the feedstock on the alginate and fucoidan's sequential extraction biorefinery process. This research aims to obtain the condition of the alkaline treatment process, which provides maximum response towards intrinsic viscosity of Sargassum cristaefolium alginate on the integrated alginate and fucoidan extraction biorefinery process. Factorial Experiment Design of 2k is used to understand the effect of temperature, time, and the concentration of Na2CO3 towards the response of alginate's intrinsic viscosity and determine the correct equation model on the first order of experiment. The research indicated that the different parameters of temperature, time, and Na2CO3 extraction process are tangibly influenced the increasing response of the alginate's intrinsic viscosity, which later reduced after reached its maximum point. The highest alginate intrinsic viscosity of 397.32 ml/g happened during the parameters of the temperature of 60oC, time of 120 minutes, and Na2CO3 concentration of 3%. Therefore, the extraction central point design of 60oC temperature, 120 minutes of duration, and 3% concentration of Na2CO3 is considered correct, and the first-order polynomial experiment model is shaped in the quadratic form.
