Abstract

Intellectual disability children with hearing loss, due to limitations in intellectual and hearing functions, had difficulty understanding geometric shapes. Therefore, an effective learning model was needed to teach these concepts. This study aimed to introduce geometric shapes (circles, squares, and triangles) to intellectual disability children with hearing loss. The hypothesis proposed was that using Gagne’s model would affect the ability to recognize geometric shapes, specifically circles, squares, and triangles, in intellectual disability children with hearing loss. This study was a single-subject research study with an A-B-A design. The measuring instrument used in this study was a checklist method filled in by the researcher. The participant was a 5-year-11-month-old girl diagnosed with mild intellectual disability and hearing loss, who attended an inclusive playgroup. The research procedure lasted for 21 sessions, consisting of three baseline sessions, 15 intervention sessions, and three maintenance sessions. The data analysis technique in this study used descriptive techniques from graphs. The results of this study indicated that Gagne’s model method was effective in introducing geometric shapes. Based on these results, the hypothesis was accepted, indicating that using Gagne’s model influenced the ability of intellectual disability children with hearing loss to recognize geometric shapes. The implication of this study was that Gagne’s model could be applied to intellectual disability children with hearing loss to teach geometric shapes effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of school infrastructure in supporting accessibility and learning quality for students with physical disabilities at junior high school (SMP Negeri 24 Surakarta). A qualitative descriptive approach was used with data collection through interviews and observations of five key participants, namely teachers, school staff, special assistant teachers, and students with disabilities. The research findings indicate that the school already has some important facilities, such as ramps, accessible toilets, and classrooms that are easily accessible by wheelchair. However, limitations were still identified, particularly regarding access to upper floors and the absence of handrails on ramps. The school is gradually improving its facilities to create a more inclusive learning environment. This study emphasizes that the development of physical infrastructure, accompanied by policy support and teacher training, is an important step in achieving fair and inclusive education for all students

Abstract

Negative body image can have a negative impact on an individual's psychological well-being. However, good emotional maturity can act as a protective factor in reducing these negative impacts. This research aims to examine the relationship between body image, emotional maturity, and psychological well-being in early adult individuals. The method used is a literature review by collecting relevant scientific articles published in the last five years obtained through the Publish or Perish application. Of the 200 articles accessed via Google Scholar, 38 articles met the criteria. The research results show that poor body image is correlated with low emotional maturity and has a significant negative impact on psychological well-being. On the other hand, high emotional maturity can reduce the negative impact of body image on psychological well-being. These findings emphasize the importance of developing emotional maturity as a strategy to improve psychological well-being in young adults who have negative self-perceptions.

Abstract

Background: Cataract surgery using the phacoemulsification technique often results in postoperative corneal oedema, which impairs visual acuity and reduces patient satisfaction. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of 5% sodium chloride eye drops as an initial management for postoperative corneal oedema following phacoemulsification. Methods: This double-blind, multicenter randomised controlled trial involved 228 patients with senile cataracts scheduled for phacoemulsification cataract surgery performed by a single experienced ophthalmologist. Patients underwent preoperative screening and were monitored on days 3 and 10 post-surgery. Visual acuity was measured using Snellen charts, and corneal oedema was clinically assessed with slit-lamp examination. Results: On day 3 post-surgery, the group treated with 5% sodium chloride demonstrated significantly better visual acuity than the control group (p=0.000). By day 10, no significant difference in visual acuity was observed between groups (p=0.413). Additionally, the incidence of corneal oedema was significantly lower in the sodium chloride group on days 3 and 10 (p=0.000). Conclusion: Topical 5% sodium chloride effectively reduces corneal oedema after phacoemulsification, resulting in clinical improvement and better early postoperative visual acuity.
