Abstract

Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL), Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) are widely used as bioconverter agents for various organics waste, and BSF pupae are often used as fodder for poultry and fish, because the BSF pupae have a high protein content. This study focused on applying BSFL as a bioconversion agent of the fermented barley waste to convert it to larvae biomass. Prior to application, barley waste was fermented either using effective microorganisms-4 (EM4), leachate, and water for seven days. The fermented barley waste was applied as feeding material for BSFL at the rate of 100 mg/larvae/days. As control commercial chicken fed (CF) was applied as feeding material at a similar feeding rate. During this study, waste reduction index (WRI), and efficiency of digested feed (ECD) were calculated, and the protein content in the BSF prepupae was analyzed. The results of this study showed that BSFL fed with CF produces the shortest development time (27 days), and high consumption rate. BSFL fed with barley waste fermented with EM4 (BE) and Leachate (BL) produces a larval period of 31 and 30 days respectively, and statistically those were not significantly different from control. This study showed that treatments of BE and BL, produced a very high larval survival rates, 98.67% and 97.00% respectively, and those two treatments were not statistically different from the control (96.67%). Although the control treatment resulted in a higher WRI compared to the other treatments, but the ECD of BE and BL treatments were higher than the ECD of the control. From this study, it can be concluded that BSFL has a good ability to convert fermented barley waste as well as controls, and the prepupae has a high protein content (42%), so BSFL fed with fermented barley waste has the opportunity to be used as a fed for poultry and fish.

Abstract

This study assesses the effectiveness of the shallot distribution channel at UD Widji Jaya in Tegalarum Village, Jaken District, Pati Regency. A qualitative approach with a case study design allows for in-depth analysis of the interactions between distribution actors, price fluctuations, and the length of the marketing chain. The study subjects included UD owners, partner farmers, collectors, and retailers, selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and transaction documentation. Data were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal high price fluctuations and uneven distribution margins, a long distribution chain that reduces market efficiency, and distributors employing adaptation strategies through market diversification and price margin adjustments. The conclusions emphasize the importance of strengthening farmer institutions and utilizing digital distribution to increase transparency, shorten the distribution chain, and create a more efficient, equitable, and sustainable marketing system. These findings contribute to scientific research by highlighting the distribution of risks and adaptation strategies of local actors, which have been understudied in the Indonesian horticultural distribution literature.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The issue of waste management at the village level has become a significant challenge in achieving a clean and sustainable environment. Tumang Village, Siak Subdistrict, Siak Regency, faces an increasing volume of waste due to population growth and low community awareness in sorting and managing household waste. As a solution, the Tumang Village Government initiated an innovation in waste management through the establishment of the Lestari Waste Bank in collaboration with SD Negeri 10 Tumang, the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK), and the community. This program is an implementation of Siak Regency Regional Regulation Number 11 of 2012 on Waste Management Guidelines and Village Regulation Number 02 of 2021 on Waste Management and Environmental Cleanliness, aiming to raise environmental awareness and provide economic benefits to the community. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. Primary data were obtained from the Village Head, Waste Bank administrators, PKK members, teachers, and residents, while secondary data came from official village documents, activity reports, and relevant scientific literature. Data analysis was carried out through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, using Everett M. Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation Theory as the analytical framework. The results indicate that the waste management innovation in Tumang Village successfully increased community awareness of environmental cleanliness, strengthened mutual cooperation, and provided economic benefits through recycling activities. Although there are still challenges such as limited facilities and consistency of community participation, the program has proven effective in encouraging social behavior change and serves as a good practice example in realizing the “Green Siak” vision toward sustainable environmental governance. Abstract

Tourism policy is a manifestation of the integration of public policy and tourism sector development strategies oriented towards community welfare and environmental sustainability. In the context of Bengkalis Regency, the tourism sector is a selected government affair with strategic potential to increase Regional Original Income (PAD) and strengthen the region's image. The purpose of this study is to examine the tourism policy applied to the development of Lapin Beach and the factors influencing it. Tourism, as a strategic sector, requires appropriate government policies to improve community welfare while strengthening the attractiveness of tourist destinations. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants came from the Bengkalis Regency Tourism Office, the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), NGOs, and local communities. The collected data was then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to illustrate the political realities of tourism policy in the field. The research results show that Lapin Beach development policies still face several obstacles, including budget constraints, lack of community participation, weak promotion, and suboptimal tourism infrastructure. Although the government acts as a facilitator, the dominance of local elites and minimal community involvement have led to unequal benefits. Therefore, policy transparency, increased community participation, and protection of socio-ecological aspects are essential to realizing inclusive and sustainable tourism development in North Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency.
