Abstract

Solid waste management in Galuga Village is still largely dependent on manual sorting practices, resulting in low sorting efficiency and limited community participation. This community service program aims to support source-level waste segregation through the implementation of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)–based automatic waste sorting system that can be operated independently by the community. The activity was conducted using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, emphasizing active community involvement in the design, utilization, and evaluation of the system. The implementation results indicate that the developed AI system achieved a highest validation accuracy of 93.37%, enabling faster and more consistent waste sorting compared to manual methods. Furthermore, observations and questionnaire results from the initial pilot implementation show improved community understanding and acceptance of waste segregation practices, as well as increased readiness to adopt the system in daily activities. These findings suggest that integrating AI technology with a participatory approach has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of community-based waste management and may be further developed as a sustainable technology empowerment model at the village level.

Abstract

National character plays a vital role in the educational process as it serves as the foundation for shaping students' attitudes, values, and behaviors, which must be implemented through school activities, including Hizbul Wathan scouting. This study aims to describe the implementation of strategic management within the Hizbul Wathan (HW) scouting program to strengthen the national character of elementary school students at SD Muhammadiyah Komplek Kolombo. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies, with research subjects selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis followed the interactive model—comprising data reduction, data display, and verification of findings—utilizing triangulation techniques and ATLAS.ti software to ensure data validity. The results indicate that the management of the HW program, based on POAC functions (planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling), is executed structurally through the formulation of annual programs, the formation of activity groups, the implementation of routine training integrated into intracurricular activities, and program evaluation via activity monitoring and student progress reporting. The implementation of these strategies contributes to the development of discipline, responsibility, cooperation, leadership, and a sense of patriotism among students. Consequently, the Hizbul Wathan scouting program serves as a strategic medium for strengthening national character education in elementary schools.

Abstract

The development of students’ potential is not limited to academic aspects but also includes non-academic aspects that require systematic and sustainable student management. SD Muhammadiyah, as an educational institution that emphasizes holistic education, needs to implement effective student management to optimize students’ talents and interests. This study aims to analyse the implementation of student management in developing students’ potential at SD Muhammadiyah, covering the stages of planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal for student affairs, classroom teachers, and extracurricular instructors. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that student management is implemented in an integrated manner through four main functions. The planning stage is based on the school’s vision and mission, supported by budgeting through the School Revenue and Expenditure Budget (RAPBS) and the implementation of initial diagnostic assessments. The organizing stage includes grouping students into categories of academically gifted, talent-gifted, and interest-based students, as well as providing adequate facilities and infrastructure. In the actuating stage, students’ potential is developed through differentiated instruction, scheduled and intensive coaching, the formation of competition teams, and active collaboration with parents. The controlling stage is carried out through regular evaluation meetings, monitoring of students’ achievements, and follow-up actions to improve programs. Overall, the implementation of systematic and sustainable student management has proven effective in supporting the optimal development of students’ potential.

Abstract

Iodine deficiency has been reported to re-emerge in developed countries, such as the United States and Taiwan, with significant cognitive consequences, despite inconsistencies in the existing body of evidence. Meanwhile, Indonesia lacks up-to-date data on population iodine status. This literature review aimed to examine the role of iodine in cognitive development and the impact of iodine deficiency at different life stages. The review employed a literature-based approach by searching English-language articles published between 2016 and 2025 using the Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases and the PRISMA analytical framework. The included studies were original research and review articles involving pregnant women, children, and adolescents. The findings indicate that iodine deficiency is associated with impaired cognitive function, particularly when exposure occurs during pregnancy. Adequate iodine intake through food fortification programs, supplementation, and consumption of iodine-rich foods supports optimal cognitive development. Therefore, continuous monitoring and strengthening of iodine fortification interventions are required to support human capital development. In addition, enhanced iodine supplementation programs for pregnant women, improved education on iodized salt consumption, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of fortification programs are needed to update and strengthen iodine status data in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the strengthening of character education through an integrative Islamic education management framework, focusing on the synchronization of teacher and parent roles at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta. The research aims to explore how managerial integration, from strategic planning to real-time communication, contributes to consistent moral development among students. This qualitative case study utilizes purposive sampling to select 10 key informants: 3 teachers, 3 parents, 3 students, and the School Principal. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations of religious activities, and documentation analysis of Lesson Plans (RPP). Data validity was ensured through method triangulation, comparing verbal accounts with physical evidence of school-parent collaboration. The research finds that effective character education is achieved through a structured, synchronized process across three dimensions: Strategic Governance (integrating values into RPP), Human Resource Development (teachers as moral role models), and Parental Partnership (active involvement in Parenting Workshops). Digital communication via WhatsApp serves as a critical real-time feedback loop between school and home. This study contributes to the field of Islamic Education Management by providing an Integrative-Synchronous Model that transforms parents from passive recipients into active educational collaborators. Its novelty lies in the systematic use of digital communication tools to bridge the gap between institutional governance and the reinforcement of domestic character. The primary limitation is the single-case study design, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to different cultural or secular contexts.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah University (PTM), as an educational institution with a distinct ideological mission, frequently admits non-Muslim students. This phenomenon theoretically creates a quo-vadis scenario, and the primary objective of the university is to instill the ideology of association in students. However, there is an interest for Muhammadiyah to emphasize its position as a moderate organization that upholds religious tolerance. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the experiences of non-Muslim students at Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta, particularly in terms of religious tolerance. This study used a qualitative with a phenomenological method. In-depth interviews were conducted with 7 non-Muslim students who had completed studies at Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta. Subsequently, data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The results showed that non-Muslim students experienced tolerance when studying. Based on the report, initial concerns were unproven, as students felt comfortable with differences, worshiped according to beliefs, and were free from discrimination. Moreover, Muhammadiyah University provided a platform for interfaith dialogue, facilitating a shift from mere tolerance theology to active engagement. The results showed the significant role of Muhammadiyah University in fostering tolerance education for non-Muslim students.
