Abstract

Abstract

Madrasahs and Islamic boarding schools are two models of Islamic education that have developed in Indonesia, each with their own characteristics and strengths. Madrasahs integrate religious and general education, while Islamic boarding schools place greater emphasis on in-depth religious teaching with a boarding school pattern and the tradition of the kyai as the center of education. Although both have great potential in educating a generation that is faithful and knowledgeable, separate management and non-synergistic curricula result in less than optimal educational outcomes. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to describe the existing conditions without manipulating the data, thereby producing a true understanding. This study discusses how to optimize the concepts of madrasahs and Islamic boarding schools through the integration of management and curriculum based on the philosophy of Islamic education, which prioritizes a balance between religious and general knowledge. The results of the study show that the synergy between madrasahs and Islamic boarding schools can strengthen the quality of Islamic education rooted in the Qur'an and Sunnah and the integral value of tawhid, thereby producing a generation with character, knowledge, and readiness to face the challenges of the times.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between language and thinking from the perspectives of syntax and pragmatics. Language is not only used for communication but also reflects how humans organize thoughts and concepts. From a syntactic perspective, patterns and rules in grammar show how humans organize ideas in an orderly manner. From a pragmatic perspective, language use depends on the social situation, the purpose of speaking, and the understanding of meaning, which indicates how the thought process occurs in interactions. This study uses a qualitative approach by seeking information from various books and articles discussing linguistics and the philosophy of language. The results show that the relationship between language and thought is mutually influential: thoughts shape the way language is structured, while language influences how humans think and understand the world. In conclusion, syntax and pragmatics are two important, complementary parts in explaining the relationship between language structure and human thought processes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of the blended learning model as a strategic innovation in the assessment system of Arabic language learning in the era of Society 5.0, which emphasizes the integration of technology and human values. The research was conducted in Class 4B of MI Miftahul Huda Blongko, Ngetos, Nganjuk during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The population consisted of all students in Class 4B, with a sample of 17 students selected through total sampling. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection instruments including observation, teacher interviews, documentation of learning activities, and analysis of student learning outcomes via digital platforms. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that blended learning plays a crucial role in transforming the Arabic language assessment system from a purely cognitive focus to a more holistic evaluation encompassing affective and psychomotor domains. The use of digital tools such as discussion forums, multimedia assignments, and interactive quizzes supports an objective, transparent, and continuous assessment process. Moreover, digital learning data enables personalized assessment based on individual student achievement and potential. However, the implementation of blended learning still faces challenges, including limited infrastructure, low teacher digital literacy, and insufficient technical support. Therefore, ongoing teacher training and collaboration among teachers, students, and parents are essential to optimizing blended learning as an innovative assessment approach for Arabic language learning in elementary madrasah education.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Teacher Professional Education (Pendidikan Profesi Guru – PPG) program at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, which has adopted the Sistem Pembelajaran Agama Cara Elektronik (SPACE) as its Learning Management System (LMS). It seeks to analyze policy frameworks, delivery models, and participant experiences to identify strengths, weaknesses, and strategic opportunities for improving teacher professionalism in Indonesia. Design/methods/approach – The research employed an evaluation design with a prescriptive (normative) analysis approach, combining empirical data with theoretical and policy review. Data were collected from 178 in-service PPG participants through documentation, semi-structured interviews, observation of LMS activities, and online questionnaires. Analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, encompassing data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Findings – Results indicate that the integration of structured academic and administrative policies, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for 24 of 36 credits, and targeted capacity-building through induction programs contributed to a high national pass rate in the Ujian Pengetahuan (UP). Participants favored the fully online format (92.2%) for its flexibility, cost efficiency, and work–study balance, though some suggested blended learning for practical teaching simulations. Challenges include heavy workload, program duration, and accessibility issues for teachers in remote areas. LMS SPACE proved effective for content delivery and assessment but requires enhanced preparatory strategies for high-stakes evaluations. Research implications – The study highlights the need for a balanced hybrid model, aligning online efficiency with selective face-to-face engagement. Policy recommendations include workload redistribution, flexible scheduling, expanded access for non-permanent teachers, and stronger integration between PPG training and school or madrasah practices. These insights can inform national strategies for scaling and refining digital teacher professional development programs in Indonesia.

Abstract

The development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 to the Society 5.0 era presents new challenges for education, including Islamic Religious Education (PAI). PAI is required not only to transfer religious knowledge but also to shape character, morality, and 21st-century competencies. This study aims to examine the philosophical foundations, characteristics, and application of PAI learning models to ensure their relevance in modern education. The research employed a qualitative approach with a library research design, involving the exploration of primary and secondary literature, critical reading, systematic note-taking, and content analysis validated through triangulation of classical and contemporary sources. The findings indicate that PAI learning models are conceptual, theoretical, systematic, and rooted in religious, philosophical, psychological, and sociological foundations. Four main models behavioristic, information processing, social, and humanistic each have strengths and limitations, yet their integration is relevant to forming insan kamil, a holistic human being balanced in cognitive, affective, psychomotor, spiritual, and social aspects. Therefore, developing PAI learning models based on Islamic philosophy and adaptive to technological advancements is a strategic necessity to face global challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) and Group Investigation (GI) cooperative learning strategies as pedagogical innovations in strengthening Islamic values and student learning independence in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) subjects. This study uses a library research method by examining various relevant scientific sources, including cooperative learning theory, the concept of independent learning, and Islamic educational values. The results of the study show that the integration of TPS and GI strategies can create an active, participatory, collaborative, and reflective learning process. Through paired discussions and investigative group work, students are trained to think critically, be responsible, and be able to work together harmoniously. In addition to improving academic understanding, the application of these two strategies also contributes to instilling Islamic values such as ukhuwah (brotherhood), amanah (trustworthiness), and mutual respect. Thus, this learning innovation is not only oriented towards cognitive aspects, but also towards character building and spirituality of students. The findings of this study are expected to be a reference for PAI teachers in developing effective, contextual, and Islamic character learning strategies.

Abstract

This study examines the urgency of Qur’an memorization programs in urban communities through a qualitative library-based approach, employing thematic analysis of relevant academic sources. Modernization and secularization in urban environments have significantly influenced the spiritual and moral orientation of younger generations, thereby creating increasingly complex challenges in character formation. The results of the literature review indicate that Qur’an memorization programs play a strategic role in shaping Qur’anic character through the internalization of religious values and moral development. The implementation of these programs has evolved into various models, including tahfidz houses, integrated Islamic schools, and digital tahfidz communities, with their effectiveness influenced by family support, educator competence, facility readiness, and adaptability to the digital environment. The main challenges identified include limited participant time, inadequate supporting facilities, and pressure from a less conducive digital culture. Therefore, strengthening tahfidz programs in urban areas requires strategic institutional management, enhanced educator capacity, targeted integration of digital technology, and supportive public policies. This research contributes to the field of Islamic education by reinforcing the conceptual understanding of the strategic role of tahfidz al-Qur’an in shaping Qur’anic character within urban society.
