Abstract

The exponential smoothing method is one method that can be used to predict time series data by smoothing the data. In this study, the method used was exponential smoothing with one smoothing parameter from Brown. The data used is the number of hotspots in East Kalimantan from January 2019 to September 2019. The purpose of this study is to obtain the optimum smoothing parameter values  for exponential smoothing from the results of the optimization process using the golden section method to minimize the MAPE value, to obtain forecasting results for each method in exponential smoothing for the number of hotspots in East Kalimantan from October to December 2019, and obtain a good exponential smoothing method to predict data on the number of hotspots in East Kalimantan. From this analysis, the researchers chose the methods used were DES and TES. The optimum smoothing parameter obtained at DES was 0,558430 and TES was 0,376352. The results of forecasting the number of hotspots obtained in DES in October were 2.142, November was 2.707, and December was 3.271 with a MAPE value of 95%. The TES method forecasting results were obtained in October as many as 2.193, November as much as 2.975, and December as many as 3.852  with a MAPE value of 108%. Based on the comparison of the MAPE values in the two methods, the DES method is better than the TES for calculating the predicted value of the number of hotspots in East Kalimantan, although the two methods are not yet suitable for handling this case.

Abstract

The Indonesian government implemented various health procedures, including home isolation, to mitigate SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Despite these efforts, understanding public readiness for self-isolation is crucial. This study aimed to assess self-awareness and preparedness for home isolation during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic (January-April 2020). Employing an analytical cross-sectional design, data were collected from 1169 participants (household heads, spouses, and elderly members ≥60 years) in 11 sub-districts of Limo Depok, West Java, Indonesia, using a validated scoring questionnaire on internal and external perceptions of home isolation. Descriptive analysis and Fisher's Exact test (p<0.05) were performed. Findings revealed a predominant female participation (66% aged ≥60 years), with case categories comprising 3% suspicious, 3.4% travelers, and 93.7% non-confirmation cases; 32% had comorbidities. A critical external factor was high population density, with only 19% of residential locations meeting excellent standards. Strikingly, only 20.5% of participants expressed willingness to practice home isolation. This study underscores a significant gap in the public's willingness and environmental suitability for effective home isolation. Raising awareness and empowering families to independently curb transmission are crucial. Lessons from local COVID-19 cases emphasize the vital role of collaborative management and network development among local stakeholders to enhance pandemic response strategies.

Abstract

Code-switching refers to the alternating use of two languages within an utterance in a given situation. This case study was conducted to identify the types and reasons for code-switching in Alicia Eva's TikTok videos. The researchers employed a descriptive qualitative research design. Data collection involved the use of documentation and transcription as research instruments. The process involved watching videos, transcribing the spoken content, and analyzing it using theoretical frameworks to classify the types and reasons for code-switching. All results were analyzed using Poplack's (1980) theory to determine the types of code-switching and Hoffman's (1991) theory to determine the reasons behind it. The findings revealed that intra-sentential code-switching had been the most frequently used type in Alicia Eva's videos, with "talking about a particular topic" being the primary reason. This study aimed to enhance readers' and researchers' understanding of code-switching and the reasons behind its use.

Abstract

The problem discussed in this research is the relationship between mastery of sentence structure and the ability to write paragraphs. This is what becomes an obstacle for students in writing paragraphs that are not good, whereas in a good essay, paragraph by paragraph must be interconnected, and become a unified whole. As a collection of sentences, a paragraph requires coherence between sentences and must show unity of thought in expressing one idea. Meanwhile, students often write several sentences and put them in a collection or group of sentences, but talk about more than one idea that is not related to each other. Students' deficiencies in writing paragraphs are usually in the areas of vocabulary, spelling, and mastery of sentence structure and syntax. Therefore, a user of a language needs understanding to master sentence patterns in a particular language. In relation to conveying ideas in written language, someone will use an essay, which contains paragraphs or paragraphs. The population in this study was class VIII students at SMP Negeri 10 Bandar Lampung, even semester of the 2024 academic year, totaling 210 people. This research was conducted using quantitative descriptive methods. This was done because apart from presenting data, this research also used simple statistical analysis. The technique used in this research is a proportional random sample according to Stratified Proportional Random Sampling. Because the level of student ability varies from one student to another. The selection is taken randomly by showing class ranking.
