Abstract

The Meratus Mountains in Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency is an area prone to natural disasters, especially landslides and floods. This is caused by steep topographic characteristics and changes in land cover due to human activities, such as deforestation and land conversion. Hinas Kanan Village, located in Hantakan Sub-district, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, is one of the areas vulnerable to floods and landslides. The Disaster Resilient Village (DESTANA) program aims to strengthen community capacity in managing resources and maintaining local wisdom for disaster mitigation. Strengthening the role of the government in terms of resource and technical support, as well as encouraging cooperation between the government, private sector, universities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community organizations to improve community preparedness in the face of disasters. The community service team implemented this program by applying the live-in method, namely living at the program location in Hinas Kanan Village, Hantakan District, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, during the period July to September 2024. Activities carried out to support the Desa Tanguh Bencana (DESTANA) program include disaster risk assessments, preparation of Disaster Management Plans (RPB) and Contingency Plans at the village level, socialization on disaster mitigation and hazards, identification of disaster-prone locations, and sketching disaster evacuation strategy maps. With the activities that have been carried out, this can be a step towards developing a resilient and empowered Hinas Kanan Village in terms of mitigating disasters.

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in Islamic religious education learning using problem based learning. This study is a classroom action research that uses four steps, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects of this study were elementary school students. The data for this study were obtained using test and observation techniques. Tests are used to measure learning outcomes and observations are used to analyze teacher and student learning activities. The data analysis technique used in this study is descriptive statistics by comparing the results obtained with indicators of research success. The results of the study indicate that problem based learning can improve student learning outcomes in Islamic religious education learning. This can be seen from the increase in the percentage of student learning completion in each cycle with details of the pre-cycle 40.89%, the first cycle 68.87% and in the second cycle increased to 90.32%. Thus, the use of videos can be used as an alternative to improve student learning outcomes in Islamic religious education learning.

Abstract

Students' mathematical reasoning abilities can develop depending on the teacher's involvement in the classroom. The problem that often occurs in the class is that the teacher's actions have not been neatly arranged to encourage students' mathematical reasoning in learning mathematics. This article aims to observe the actions taken by a group of mathematics teachers in encouraging students' mathematical reasoning abilities. This type of research is qualitative research with data collected from learning recordings in the classroom. The research subjects were three junior high school, mathematics teachers. The teacher observed how students reasoned during 12 sessions as they studied and completed homework. The results of observing students' mathematical reasoning activities, such as building reasonable arguments and drawing correct conclusions, were concluded to enable teachers to test their students' mathematical reasoning. The findings of this study indicate that teachers can foster students' mathematical reasoning by applying the following strategies: (a) providing appropriate learning interventions; (b) assigning open tasks without solution methods, and (c) fostering a learning community that values reasoning and the construction of shared ideas.

Abstract

Traffic accident rates continue to rise, causing material damage and casualties. Although regulated by Law No. 22 of 2009, case resolution processes are often ambiguous, with some cases being resolved through the judicial system and others through Restorative justice (RJ). This study employs both normative and empirical methods, including interviews at Polrestabes Medan, to assess the implementation of RJ, its legal basis, and the challenges faced. The results indicate that several regulations, such as Law No. 11 of 2012 and Police Chief Regulation No. SE/8/VII/2018, address RJ. However, challenges such as conflicts of interest, lack of cooperation between perpetrators and victims, and unclear legal frameworks hinder the effective application of RJ. The study recommends establishing clearer legal regulations for RJ in traffic accident cases and enhancing the functions of relevant institutions to address these issues at Medan City Police.

Abstract

Background: Supporting students' psychological well-being is crucial for teachers, particularly in times of crisis. However, communication barriers and low confidence in administering Psychological First Aid (PFA) often hinder effective support. This study examines the impact of PFA training and interpersonal communication skills on educators' self-efficacy. Methods: A randomized controlled trial with cluster sampling was conducted among 88 educators from four schools in Aceh (September–October 2024). Participants were assigned to intervention and control groups, with data collected using a pre-test and post-test design. The intervention consisted of PFA and interpersonal communication training, delivered in 2-hour sessions over four weeks. Self-efficacy was measured using the General Self-Efficacy Scale, with data analyzed using normality tests, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, and the Mann-Whitney U Test. Results: Educators who received PFA training showed significantly higher self-efficacy compared to the control group (U = 537.500, p < 0.001; Wilcoxon Z = -5.785, p = 0.001). Similarly, interpersonal communication training led to significant self-efficacy improvements (U = 306.500, p = 0.001; Wilcoxon Z = -5.783, p < 0.001). Conclusion: PFA and interpersonal communication training enhance teachers' self-efficacy in providing psychological support. Wider implementation of these interventions is recommended to improve students' psychological well-being in Aceh.

Abstract

The study aims to know active ingredients and a dose of pre-emergence herbicides for suppressing weeds growth and it’s the effect on juvenile acacia three months after plant-ing. The study was conducted in PT. Bumi Andalas Permai, The Sugihan Water District, Patch G 3020, The Baung River, Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatra. The study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) and 8 treatments. Without Pre-Emergence Herbicides (T1), Isoxaflutole 150 g․ha-1 (T2), Flumioxazine 100 g․ha-1 (T3), Flumioxazine 200 g․ha-1 (T4), Indaziflame and Iodosulfuron 150 g․ha-1 (T5), Indaziflame and Iodosulfuron 250 g․ha-1 (T6), Sulfentrazon 500 ml․ha-1 (T7), and Sulfentrazon 750 ml․ha-1 (T8). Research started from October 2021 to January 2022. The results showed that the dosed and var-ious of pre-emergence herbicides a significant effect for weeds covered, Specific Leaf Area (SLA) 8, and 12 weeks after application. However, herbicides dit not effect for height and diameter acacia stems. The best treatment to suppress for weed growth was at Indazi-flame and Iodosulfuron 250 g․ha-1, a total weed cover of 8,06 % and dominated by the narrow leave Ottochloa nodosa with SDR value of 78,47 %. The biggest increase for height and diameter of acacia stems was for the active ingredient Sulfentrazon 750 ml. ha-1 which 107,56 cm and a diameter stem 3,62 cm. Highest value for Specific Leaf Area was at a treatment of Control with 119,37 cm².g-1. Treatment of Isoxaflutole 150 g․ha-1 caused a dechlorophyllization effect of acacia leaves with percentage injury of plant to the active ingredient Isoxaflutole is 44,79 %.
