Abstract

High blood triglyceride levels indicate impaired fat metabolism and can trigger atherosclerosis, making hypertriglyceridemia a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), metabolic syndrome, and acute pancreatitis. The productive-age population often experiences overnutrition due to unhealthy diets and low physical activity, increasing fat and triglyceride accumulation. Stress may also elevate triglyceride levels, necessitating early screening. The Community Service Program (PKM) at Assisi Church aimed to raise awareness of early dyslipidemia detection through triglyceride screening using Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) and educational counseling. Among 76 participants, 39 (57.35%) had high triglyceride levels, while 29 (42.65%) were normal. These findings highlight the importance of regular check-ups and continuous education to reduce cardiometabolic risks and promote healthier lifestyles.

Abstract

Hemorrhagic stroke is a severe condition caused by the rupture of blood vessels in the brain, often resulting from uncontrolled high blood pressure. Routine blood pressure monitoring is a key preventive measure to detect hypertension risk and prevent hemorrhagic stroke complications, particularly among the productive-age population. This community service activity was conducted using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach, which included counseling on risk factors, promoting healthy lifestyles, and blood pressure screening for 40 productive-age individuals. The results showed that the average participant age was 43.97 years, with 47.5% identified as having hypertension. These findings highlight the need for regular preventive interventions. The high prevalence of hypertension in this age group underscores the importance of health education to improve public awareness regarding blood pressure management. Recommendations include adopting a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding alcohol consumption, and maintaining routine blood pressure checks. Education and early detection play critical roles in reducing the risk of hypertension and preventing hemorrhagic stroke complications among productive-age adults. Abstract

Hydrated skin is a key indicator of overall skin health, as water content in the stratum corneum plays a vital role in maintaining skin barrier function. Insufficient hydration can lead to dry skin, increase susceptibility to infections, and negatively impact quality of life. This community activity aimed to assess skin water and oil levels among the productive-age population in Grogol as a preventive measure against skin dryness. The activity utilized the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach, which involved planning the screening, measuring skin water and oil levels, evaluating the results, and providing skin care education to participants with abnormal findings. A total of 67 participants from Grogol Village, West Jakarta, took part in this initiative. The results indicated that 11 participants (16.42%) had low oil levels and 14 participants (20.9%) had low water levels. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining proper skin hydration through adequate water intake, regular use of moisturizers, and healthy lifestyle habits. Early detection and education regarding skin hydration proved to be effective strategies in preventing dry skin and enhancing overall quality of life. Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is characterized by a cluster of metabolic abnormalities associated with body fat distribution, particularly the accumulation of visceral fat. Body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) are simple yet effective anthropometric parameters that can serve as indicators of metabolic risk. In this study, anthropometric assessments were conducted on 57 participants at the Cengkareng Baptist Foundation School. Measurements included BMI, waist circumference, and hip circumference, which were used to calculate WHR. The data were analyzed descriptively to evaluate body fat status and distribution. The mean BMI was 26.54, while the mean WHR was 0.89. A total of 59.65% of participants fell into the obesity category, and 68.42% exhibited central obesity based on WHR values. These elevated BMI and WHR readings reflect excessive fat accumulation and a higher tendency for metabolic risk. Excessive caloric intake is likely a contributing factor to this disproportionate fat distribution. BMI and WHR assessments can be utilized as practical screening tools for the early identification of metabolic syndrome risk in the adult population. Abstract

Decreased muscle strength is an early indicator of sarcopenia risk, which can begin during productive age. Handgrip strength measurement is a practical screening tool to assess muscle function, particularly in community settings. Low grip strength is often linked to inadequate daily protein intake. This community service activity was conducted at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Jakarta, using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach. Handgrip strength was measured using a digital dynamometer on both hands, and the results were categorized by gender. Educational sessions were provided on the importance of protein intake to support muscle health. A total of 65 participants were examined, most of whom were over 60 years old. Male participants showed higher average grip strength than females, with most women falling into the low muscle strength category. The findings suggest a potential decline in muscle function that may not yet be clinically apparent. Handgrip strength screening, combined with nutrition education, serves as an effective preventive strategy against muscle deterioration and can be implemented as an early community-level approach to sarcopenia prevention. Abstract

Anemia among women of childbearing age remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, directly affecting both quality of life and maternal health outcomes. Early detection through hemoglobin and hematocrit testing plays a critical role in preventing complications and improving health status. This community service activity was conducted using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) framework to enhance awareness among women of reproductive age regarding anemia, its risk factors, and preventive strategies. Educational sessions were delivered through counseling, followed by hemoglobin and hematocrit examinations. The average hemoglobin level among participants was 11.44 g/dL and hematocrit was 33.76%, both below the normal thresholds, indicating a potential risk for anemia. Participants reported improved understanding of the importance of maintaining a nutritious diet and undergoing routine health check-ups. The intervention demonstrated that education combined with early screening through hemoglobin and hematocrit assessments can effectively reduce the risk of anemia in women of reproductive age. This program supports increased health literacy and contributes to anemia prevention efforts in this vulnerable population. Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a common metabolic condition found in the adult population and significantly contributes to the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease and stroke. This condition is often asymptomatic, making early detection of total cholesterol and HDL levels a crucial step in identifying the risk of atherosclerosis at an earlier stage. A screening program conducted at the Asisi Church revealed that out of 68 participants, 34 individuals (50%) had abnormal total cholesterol levels, while 10 individuals (14.71%) had very low HDL levels, and 33 individuals (48.53%) had low HDL levels. These findings emphasize the importance of routine lipid profile assessments to prevent more severe cardiometabolic complications. Through education on healthy eating patterns, increased physical activity, and better control of risk factors, the community is expected to maintain optimal lipid profiles and improve overall quality of life.

Abstract

Liver disease is a health problem that often goes undetected in its early stages due to the absence of specific symptoms, despite the liver's vital role in metabolism, detoxification, and maintaining homeostasis. Early detection is crucial to prevent the progression of liver dysfunction. This community service activity aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of early liver disease screening through the examination of lipid ratios (total cholesterol/HDL and triglycerides/HDL) and physical evaluation for clinical signs of liver dysfunction. The program was conducted at the Cengkareng Baptist Foundation and involved 59 adult participants. The screening included basic laboratory tests and direct physical examinations, followed by health education tailored to each participant based on their screening results. Findings revealed that 83.1% of participants had elevated triglyceride/HDL ratios and 28.8% had total cholesterol/HDL ratios above the normal range, although 100% showed no physical signs suggestive of liver disease. These results indicate the presence of underlying metabolic risks that may affect liver function. This program had a positive impact by enhancing public understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and regular check-ups as part of health promotion and disease prevention efforts related to liver health.
