Abstract

At present, climate change is a global issue affecting the entire world, including tropical countries such as Indonesia. Previous studies have indicated that changes in these conditions have grave impacts on hydrological disasters. Therefore, the pattern of climate change needs to be analyzed for the feasibility of adaptation and mitigation in the future. This present study developed analyses into the trend in temperature variation over East Java both on an annual and daily time scale. Observation data within a long period from 1985 to 2023 was used for comprehensive results. Methods applied include linear regression, the Man-Kendall test, and Sen's Slope test. The new finding that emerged for the temperature variable was that the increase in temperature went over the global and national averages and consistently showed a significant increasing trend across the study area. However, the rainfall variable revealed different results in highlands, where the rainfall intensity decreased-in SDII and R100, inversely proportional to coastal areas. It means that climate change does not occur uniformly everywhere but varies spatially. These findings raise a case for climate change mapping to formulate appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Abstract

Sadawarna Dam, one of Indonesia's national strategic projects, located in the Cipunegara River Basin, plays a crucial role in ensuring food security, controlling floods, and providing a raw water supply. Community activities around the reservoir have the potential to degrade water quality, making continuous monitoring necessary. This study evaluates the water quality condition of Sadawarna Dam through analysis of physical, chemical, and biological parameters using the Pollution Index method (Minister of Environment Decree No. 115 of 2003) in the upstream, reservoir, and downstream areas, providing a comprehensive overview of pollution levels and their relevance to environmentally sustainable principles. Measurement results show that, based on Class I Water Quality Standards, the Pollution Index (PI) values range from 3.61 to 5.20. In comparison, based on Class II Standards, the PI values range from 3.54 to 5.11. These values indicate that water quality in the reservoir and downstream areas falls into the "Lightly Polluted" category, while the upstream area is classified as "Moderately Polluted." These findings emphasize the importance of water quality monitoring as a strategic environmental management measure to maintain the sustainability of the reservoir ecosystem and its benefits for the community. Therefore, the solution is to strengthen regular water quality monitoring systems, identify pollution sources, and promote collaborative efforts among the government, communities, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable and environmentally sound reservoir management.

Abstract

The blue swimming crab is a leading commodity in Karawang Regency in terms of economic value. It is marketed locally and internationally. Blue swimming crabs are sold to consumers both alive and processed, so a supply chain process is needed that can meet consumer demand quickly and maintain excellent quality. This study aims to analyze the management, structure, and costs of the blue swimming crab supply chain and evaluate its external performance using the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) method, which is considered a systematic approach for measuring supply chain performance. This study was conducted in Tirtajaya District, Cilamaya Wetan District, and at a blue swimming crab processing company in Cirebon. The results of this study include an explanation of the supply chain targets, supply chain structures, types of costs incurred by fishermen, traders, collectors, and suppliers, as well as the value of the external performance of the supply chain. The research subjects consisted of fishermen, traders, and collectors. The structure of the blue swimming crab supply chain in Karawang Regency had two different flows or chain networks from fishermen to suppliers. The costs generally incurred are operational costs, including diesel fuel, supplies, fishing gear, bait (if using traps), and transportation. External performance measurements of the blue swimming crab supply chain in Karawang Regency consistently yield superior results across all indicators. However, the order fulfillment indicator yielded parity due to the lean season.

Abstract

Maintaining the potential sustainability of fish resources in the sea, the government began “Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF)” concept since it was adopted at the FAO Conference on October 31, 1995 to overcome irregularities in capture fisheries activities. The criteria for environmentally friendly fishing gear must have high selectivity, the gear does not damage the habitat, does not endanger the lives of fishermen, produces quality fish, the product does not endanger consumers, low by-catch, fishing gear provides minimal impact efforts on the diversity of biological resources, does not catch protected biota species that are threatened with extinction and is socially accepted by the community. The purpose of this study is to determine the environmental level friendliness of purse seines by means of observation, documentation, and interviews. The purse seine catches results in the study at KM. Berkah Sandrego 2 consists of Sardinella gibbosa by 25%, Amblygaster sirm by 27%, Selarodies leptolepis by 19%, Selar crumenophthalmus by 8%, Atule mate by 4%, Rastrelliger kanugarta by 6%, Euthynnus affinis by 9%, and other catches by 2%. The 88.32% catch total is the main catch (HTU), while 11.68% is bycatch (HTS) with total catch of fish that can be utilized at 100% and unutilized total catch at 0%. The assessment shows that this fishing gear is in the environmentally friendly category. The evaluation resulted in a score of 28 and a total score of 848, which proves that the purse seine is in the 28-36 category (very environmentally friendly).

Abstract

This study aims to assess the storage capacity and determine the effectiveness of gate operation in flood routing at Tiu Suntuk Dam. The analysis was conducted using the HEC-HMS hydrological model with a reservoir routing approach to simulate the relationship between inflow, outflow, and changes in reservoir water level (RWL) under various gate operation scenarios. The results from the supervision consultant indicate that the total storage capacity of the dam is 60.86 million m³, with an effective volume of 57.34 million m³ and a flood control storage of 13.51 million m³. Four gate operation scenarios were tested, combining fully open and closed conditions at initial water levels of +89.00 m (spillway gate sill) and +93.50 m (crest of the free-flow spillway). Additionally, an Early Warning System (EWS) with three alert levels (green, yellow, and red) has been established to anticipate emergency conditions. The best scenario was obtained under the closed-gate condition at RWL +89.00 m, achieving a 100% reduction in flood discharge for Q25 and maintaining dam safety against Q1000 (with a freeboard of 5.30 m). In contrast, the open-gate condition at RWL +93.50 m would result in downstream flooding, as the outflow discharge exceeds the bank full capacity; therefore, this scenario is not recommended for spillway gate operation. Overall, the study concludes that a well-planned gate operation system and an effective EWS can ensure dam safety and optimize its function as a flood control structure in the Tiu Suntuk watershed.

Abstract

Material selection in the construction industry is a strategic decision that affects the cost efficiency, durability, and sustainability of a project. This study applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to determine the best construction material based on four main criteria: mechanical strength, environmental resistance, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability. The hierarchical structure is built with three levels: material selection objectives, evaluation criteria, and compared material alternatives—namely structural steel, cross-laminated timber (CLT), and reinforced concrete. The assessment uses the Saaty scale (1–9), then the matrix is normalized to obtain priority weights. Consistency tests are carried out by calculating the maximum eigenvalue (λmax), Consistency Index (CI), and Consistency Ratio (CR). The results show that structural steel has the highest weight (0.4888093), making it the best choice compared to CLT and reinforced concrete. This study confirms that the AHP method is able to reduce subjectivity in decision making with a data-driven approach. Integration with technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can improve the accuracy of the analysis. Thus, this method can be a solution in selecting construction materials that are more systematic and sustainable.
