Abstract

Academic achievement is no longer a foreign concept in the world of education. It is a crucial goal for students to achieve in school. Various factors related to academic achievement have a significant influence, both internal and external. Perceived birth-order status and family harmony are two particularly important factors; however, to date, no specific study has been conducted to examine the relationship between these two variables and student academic achievement. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between perceived birth-order status and family harmony and students’ academic achievement. The research method employed was a correlational design, with a sample of 90 students at SMAN 1 Luhak Nan Duo. The results of the study empirically demonstrate that perceived birth-order status and family harmony have a positive and significant relationship with student academic achievement, both partially and simultaneously. Partially, the perceived birth-order status has a strong relationship with students’ academic achievement, with a correlation coefficient of 0.626. Similarly, the variable of family harmony was found to have a strong relationship, with a correlation coefficient of 0.693. The results of the simultaneous analysis also indicate that the perceived birth-order status and family harmony have a strong relationship with academic achievement, with a correlation coefficient of 0.763. This proves that birth order and family harmony are closely related to students' academic achievement. However, the findings of this study cannot yet be generalized due to the relatively small sample size. Therefore, the researcher strongly recommends that other researchers conduct follow-up studies with a larger sample size, broader characteristics, a wider scope of research, and more comprehensive methods.

Abstract

Counseling and psychotherapy have developed into disciplines characterized by extraordinary paradigmatic diversity, yet comprehensive systematic reviews integrating recent theoretical developments across paradigms particularly from non-Western perspectives remain limited. Objective: This article aims to map and classify major counseling and psychotherapy paradigms, synthesize empirical evidence on therapeutic effectiveness and change mechanisms, and analyze the applicability of Western-developed frameworks in Indonesian and Southeast Asian contexts. Method: A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following PRISMA 2020 guidelines was conducted through structured searches across four databases: Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar (January 2026). Boolean keyword strings combined terms for psychotherapy paradigms, therapeutic alliance, evidence-based practice, and multicultural competence. From 4,847 initial records, 49 articles met inclusion criteria following deduplication, independent screening (Cohen's κ = 0.84), and JBI Critical Appraisal (threshold ≥ 50%). Results: Three principal findings emerged: (1) eight major paradigms were identified and classified psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, humanistic-existential, cognitive-behavioral, contextual-behavioral, systemic-family, integrative/eclectic, multicultural-ecological, and neurobiological; (2) common therapeutic factors, particularly therapeutic alliance (r = 0.28–0.30), account for greater outcome variance than specific techniques; and (3) none of the 49 included studies originated from Indonesia, and only four from Asia, confirming a critical research gap. Conclusion: No single paradigm demonstrated universal superiority. The novelty of this review lies in explicitly connecting the WEIRD critique to Indonesian counseling education and proposing a culturally-adapted integrative framework as a priority for future empirical development in the region. Keywords: psychotherapy paradigms; therapeutic alliance; multicultural counseling; Indonesia; non-Western psychotherapy

Abstract

Qur'anic education for deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) students is a critical dimension of inclusive Islamic education yet remains underserved due to the predominantly auditory nature of traditional instruction. This study systematically analyzes instructional strategies, pedagogical methods, effectiveness outcomes, implementation challenges, and future recommendations for Qur'anic learning among DHH students. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) combined with bibliometric analysis was employed as the methodological framework. Data were retrieved from the Scopus database and screened in accordance with PRISMA guidelines, yielding five empirical articles that satisfied the predefined inclusion criteria. Analysis proceeded through bibliometric mapping and thematic synthesis. Findings reveal that Hijaiyah sign language and staged instructional approaches constitute the predominant strategies, with visual and multisensory methods demonstrating significant effectiveness in improving Qur'anic literacy encompassing reading, tajwid comprehension, and memorization. However, instructional effectiveness is conditioned by teacher competence, availability of appropriate learning media, and environmental support. Bibliometric analysis further indicates that technological integration remains nascent, representing a substantive gap and opportunity for future inquiry. This study contributes a structured scientific synthesis to the field of inclusive Islamic education and underscores the need for technology-driven pedagogical innovations, adaptive curricula, and systematic teacher preparation programs.

Abstract

Purpose: Learning adjustment among students is a crucial aspect in fostering strong academic achievement, particularly in elective courses. With effective learning adjustment, students become better able to set clear academic goals, focus on learning activities, and successfully meet all academic demands. Various factors influence students’ learning adjustment, one of which is gender. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of learning adjustment in elective subjects between male and female students. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach using a comparative method. Sampling was conducted using total sampling, with a sample size of 194 Phase F students at SMA N 2 Pulau Punjung, comprising 117 female students (59.3%) and 77 male students (39.7%). The instrument used in this study was a student learning adjustment scale that had been developed and validated through expert judgment. Additionally, the instrument had undergone validity and reliability testing. The validity test results showed that all item-total correlation coefficients exceeded the r-table values. The reliability test yielded a Cronbach’s alpha score of 0.970. Data analysis was performed using the independent samples t-test. Findings: The results of the study indicate that, descriptively and overall, students’ learning adjustment at SMAN 2 Pulau Punjung falls into the high category. Next, based on hypothesis testing, it was found that women had higher scores than men, t (192) = −2.344, p = 0.020, mean difference = 7.01, 95% CI [1.11, 12.90], with an effect size based on the article’s statistical calculations of approximately Cohen’s d = 0.34, or small to moderate. Research Implications: This study provides empirical evidence that gender still influences students’ academic adjustment in specific subject area. Originality: This study offers an analysis of self-adjustment in learning, particularly in specialized subjects, which, in this context, are still very limited and have not yet been addressed.

Abstract

This research seeks to identify the key determinants of academic stress experienced by elementary students within the framework of digital-based education. At the elementary school level, especially for higher grade students, digital learning often poses new challenges that are not only technical, but also emotional. Intensive use of digital media can lead to overload learning and device dependence, which in turn increases academic stress. A quantitative method with a confirmatory framework was employed in this research to validate a conceptual model that includes overload learning, nomophobia, and academic self-efficacy as key variables. Data were obtained from 290 elementary school students in West Sumatra Province through an online questionnaire developed from previously valid instruments. The analysis was conducted using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. Findings indicated that both overload learning and nomophobia were positively and significantly associated with academic stress. On the other hand, academic self-efficacy contributed to lowering stress and served as a moderating factor in the relationships among the variables. The findings suggest that elementary school students need adequate psychosocial support, and guidance and counseling services in elementary schools are crucial in helping them manage academic stress in today's digital era.

Abstract

Inclusive education has become a global priority, emphasizing the right of children with special needs (CSN) to receive quality education without discrimination. This study is motivated by the critical role of accurate assessment in designing effective learning for children with special needs (CSN). This research aims to evaluate the implementation of educational assessment for CSN at Aisyiyah Tembung Special Needs School and to identify the factors influencing its practice. A qualitative approach was employed, using content analysis of verbal, visual, and written documentation. The research subjects were educators teaching CSN at the school. The findings reveal that most teachers do not have a background in special education, but rather come from other disciplines such as mathematics, religion, physical education, and the arts. This lack of specialized training affects the accuracy of assessment practices, as teachers struggle to identify the individual needs of CSN comprehensively. The study underscores the urgent need for targeted training programs to equip non-specialist educators with adaptive assessment skills. The main contribution of this research lies in highlighting the importance of strengthening assessment competencies among general educators within the context of inclusive education, as a strategic step toward improving the quality of educational services for children with special needs. Keywords: assessment mechanism, educators in special schools, children with special needs

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students' aggressive behavior and examine the effectiveness of group guidance services based on behavior modification using the Art Therapy drawing technique in reducing aggressive behavior. The study employed an experimental approach with a Single Subject Research (SSR) A–B design, involving eight junior high school students who met the research criteria. The participants exhibited aggressive behaviors, including both physical and verbal aggression, such as engaging in verbal conflicts, making threats, displaying hostility, mocking peers, hitting or pushing others, and damaging other people's belongings. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure the level of aggressive behavior before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the N-Gain Test. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores, with a significance value of 0.012 (p < 0.05), indicating that the intervention effectively reduced students' aggressive behavior. All participants showed a decrease in their aggression scores, demonstrating consistent behavioral improvement. Furthermore, the N-Gain result of 66% indicated that the intervention was moderately effective. The Art Therapy drawing technique proved to help students express their emotions constructively, improve self-control, and reduce aggressive tendencies. However, the intervention's effectiveness was not yet optimal due to internal and external factors affecting the participants. Therefore, strengthening the intervention through increased service intensity and greater environmental support is recommended to achieve more optimal and sustainable outcomes.
