Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal and to identify the sorts of Ad Hominem fallacies used by one of the presidential candidates, Donald J. Trump, during the second US presidential debate in 2020 because Trump is named as the king of ad hominem. This study applied Damer, (2009) classification theory of ad hominem fallacy, which includes three categories; Abusive, poisoning the well and two-wrongs fallacy was used in this study. The descriptive qualitative approach is used in this study by collecting, arranging, analyzing and summarizing the data. Only two of the three kinds of ad hominem fallacy were found in this study. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that the Abusive Ad Hominem fallacy became the most often appearing category used by Trump using the pronoun you and he to attack directly to his opponent. Donald J. Trump's second dominant type is poisoning the well using the future tense modal will and wouldn’t.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of intensifier as a persuasive language strategy in politics used by Kamala Harris as a female politician in the 2020 vice-presidential debate. The study attaches to the qualitative research method focusing to construe in-depth analysis. Two primary sources are used in data gathering: vice-presidential debate transcription from rev.com and the vice-presidential debate video from NBCNews on YouTube. The methodological approach is the qualitative research method. The theoretical framework used as the main theory of this research is Quirk et. al‘s (1992) intensifier theory and Lakoff's (1975) women’s language features. The result found that there are 95 intensifiers. First, emphasizers (58%) with attitudinal and style disjuncts (46%) and 12%. Second, amplifiers (25%) with maximizers (18%) and boosters (7%). Lastly, downtoners (16%) with compromiser (1%), diminisher (1%), minimizer (7%), and approximator (6%). The most prevalent sort of intensifier used by Kamala and Hillary was the emphasizer attitudinal disjunct, e.g. "Clearly, Actually, Of course, Probably, Certainly, Really" The most prevalent convey varying levels of certainty and uncertainty about what is being conveyed. Additionally, it was discovered that the two female politicians were using these words as part of a persuasive strategy to convince the audience.

Abstract

RFID is often used by companies to identify employees and company assets, as well as in supermarkets to identify goods when shopping. In this increasingly sophisticated era, IoT technology has wide applications. The use of RFID technology in IoT networks may pose vulnerabilities to security and privacy because it contains sensitive information, and RFID data transmitted over communication channels is vulnerable to attacks. IoT technology has characteristics such as high autonomous data capture rate, network connectivity, and interoperability for services and applications. Therefore, this research aims to improve the security of RFID data by taking into account the characteristics of IoT. The method used is hybrid cryptography by combining AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) and ECDH (Elliptic-curve Diffie-Hellman) keys. AES, as a commonly used symmetric cryptography, is chosen to protect the data, while ECDH, as the latest asymmetric cryptography, is used for a faster and more efficient process compared to previous asymmetric methods. This study utilizes the Python programming language on Jupyter Notebook. The initial step of the study involved scanning the RFID data to be secured and configuring the key on ECDH. The subsequent process included encryption and decryption of the data. The study successfully tested the success of encryption and decryption on RFID UIDs. The test data includes the result display of the hybrid encryption, the encryption and decryption processing time, and the file size of the encryption (ciphertext) and decryption (decodetext). These results show an excellent level of security for RFID UIDs. Only those with a specific key can know the contents of the cipher. It should be noted that this study was only conducted at the program level and was not implemented on hardware. Therefore, the results can be a valuable reference for future research.

Abstract

For go public banking entity, applying PSAK 60 (revised 2014) regarding disclosure of financial instruments in the financial statements is a necessity in order to provide information to readers of financial statements. Disclosure and presentation of information is a fundamental effort to provide information on financial statements for users of financial information. To be useful, accounting information must be relevant to meet the needs of users of financial statements in the decision making process. The purpose of this study is to examine the increased relevance of the value of disclosure of financial instruments after PSAK 60 (revised 2014) to banking company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange before and after PSAK 60 (revised 2014) is effective on 1 January 2015. The findings of this study indicated that somehow the quality of information disclosure of financial instrument has relevance to the decisions investors as reflected by the stock price. This is shown by the positive coefficient direction although the value of financial instrument disclosure coefficients shows the influence of financial instruments is not statistically significant, which indicates that the results of this study support the value relevance theory, whereby the higher level of financial instrument disclosure in the financial statements the higher the market value of equity firms.
