Abstract

Although active learning methods have been widely examined in educational research, the effect of the brainstorming method on learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the junior high school level, particularly in schools located in non-urban areas, remains relatively underexplored. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the brainstorming method on students’ learning outcomes in the Islamic Religious Education subject at SMP N 1 Gunuang Omeh Subdistrict. A quantitative approach was employed with a quasi-experimental design in the form of a Static Group Comparison Design, involving 40 eighth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using an objective multiple-choice test and analyzed with the nonparametric Mann–Whitney U test after normality and homogeneity tests were conducted. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.003 < 0.05), where the experimental group taught using the brainstorming method obtained a mean score of 83.40 with an 85% mastery level, while the control group taught using conventional methods obtained a mean score of 74.10 with a 55% mastery level. These findings reinforce constructivist and social learning theories in the context of Islamic Religious Education and confirm that the implementation of active learning strategies based on brainstorming is effective in improving students’ learning outcomes. The study recommends that Islamic Religious Education teachers further integrate the brainstorming method into classroom practice as part of developing student-centered learning, and encourages subsequent research to examine the impact of this method on affective and psychomotor domains.

Abstract

Indonesia’s Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB Tiga Menteri), which prohibits schools from mandating the hijab, has sparked significant controversy, particularly in Minangkabau society, where Islamic norms are strongly interwoven with adat and educational traditions. This study aims to analyze the roots of Minangkabau resistance to the hijab policy and to understand what this conflict reveals about broader negotiations between state authority and local Islamic educational values. Employing a qualitative fieldwork approach, the research integrates in-depth interviews, field observations, and digital documentation. These primary data are complemented by qualitative content analysis of media reports, public statements, and community narratives to capture both grassroots and public discourses. Findings show that Minangkabau communities interpret the policy as undermining the moral development of children and disrupting the long-standing normalization of hijab practice in schools. Their resistance signifies a strong assertion of educational autonomy and reflects a challenge to the state’s attempt to centralize religious policy. This contestation is rooted not only in religious doctrine but also in cultural heritage and communal identity. The Minangkabau reaction highlights the persistent dissonance between national education policies and local religious-cultural frameworks, demonstrating that uniform regulations may fail to accommodate Indonesia’s plural sociocultural landscape. The study underscores the need for culturally responsive policy-making in Islamic education, encouraging future decisions to integrate local values, community participation, and context-sensitive approaches to avoid conflict and strengthen policy legitimacy.

Abstract

MADRASAH: THE BASIS OF HUMANISTIC-RELIGIOUS EPISTEMOLOGY. In anthropocentrism modernity, which is often called humanism, it is assumed that life is not centered on God or gods, but in humans. This western epistemology has been criticized by the westerners themselves.  Nietzshe and Capra stated that Western civilization has been destroyed due to overly laud the ratio. The purpose of the research is to find the solution of the modern human’s problem. The research method used is library method and analyzed by philoshophy approach. The result shows that madrasah is the way out of the humanity problems. It means that madrasah education system could be a solution to the crisis of modern human. The madrasah epitemology is humanistic-religious. From the design model, madrasah is better than public schools since the general knowledge given in madrasah is totally the same as in public schools, the advantage lies in the Islamic system. Madrasah graduates are expected to have the equal general knowledge with the public school graduates but should be better in a level of religiosity.
