Abstract

Various biological factors influence the acceleration of the age of menarche in female students aged 13-14 years. These factors include exposure to pornographic media, excess body weight, consumption of fast food, nutritional status, history of maternal age at menarche, sexual knowledge, height, and family economic status. Early exposure to sexual content and a high-fat diet can accelerate sexual maturity through changes in hormone production, while nutritional status and history of maternal age at menarche are also associated with accelerated menarche. This research involved 85 class VII female students who were selected purposively to analyze the influence of these factors on the age of menarche. Data was collected through questionnaires and physical measurements, then analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results show that exposure to pornographic media, excess body weight, consumption of fast food, nutritional status, and history of the mother's age at menarche have a significant influence on accelerating the age of menarche (p-value < 0.05). On the other hand, height, sexual knowledge and family economic status did not have a significant effect (p-value > 0.05). It is recommended that parents and schools limit teenagers' access to pornographic media and encourage healthy lifestyles to prevent acceleration of the age menarche.

Abstract

The issue of climate change is a global concern, with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Indonesia, under the Paris Agreement, has set targets to reduce emissions by 29% independently and 41% with international support by 2030. At the local level, Palembang faces challenges in waste management, contributing to methane emissions, a GHG with 28 times the global warming potential of CO2. Although waste is not the largest source of emissions, Palembang, with over 1.6 million residents, must address this issue. This study analyzes GHG emission projections in Palembang’s waste management sector under different scenarios and offers policy recommendations for local authorities. Using the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) model, along with primary and secondary data, the results suggest that the most effective scenario for reducing emissions is a zero-landfill approach with full implementation of the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) concept. Projections show that this scenario could reduce emissions by 64% by 2030 and 71% by 2045 compared to the baseline. Prioritizing waste management with the 3R concept and waste sorting at the source is essential to meet emission reduction goals. This paper also recommends integrating waste reduction targets into regional planning and assessing financial capacity to support thermal waste treatment technology as a sustainable urban waste management solution.

Abstract

Background: The use of cosmetic products, especially facial whitening creams that contain hydroquinone, can pose a risk to the health of people who use them because they can cause cancer (carcinogenic) and skin disorders such as ochronosis (black skin color). However, in cases in the field, it is often found that hydroquinone content is still present in cosmetic preparations in circulation. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out further research regarding the hydroquinone content in cosmetic preparations. Objective: To determine the content and levels of hydroquinone in samples of whitening cream preparations. Methods: This research uses analytical observational type. Testing was carried out using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Qualitative analysis is carried out by paying attention to retention time, while quantitative analysis is carried out by looking at the area or concentration which is then calculated to obtain hydroquinone levels. Results: The results of research on facial whitening cream circulating in the Shopee, Tokopedia and Bukalapak marketplaces contained hydroquinone in three samples with levels in sample 1 of 0.002204%, sample 4 of 0.03%, and sample 5 of 0.137%.

Abstract

This study explores the concept of multiculturalism within the fisherman community of Pusong Village, Lhokseumawe, Aceh Province. Here, multiculturalism naturally emerges among low-income and fisherman populations, not upheld by the educated members of the society. This research aims to identify how multiculturalism is maintained in a village that has historically grown on the outskirts of Lhokseumawe since the beginning of Indonesia's independence. The focus is on understanding the existing social relationship patterns, exploring the multicultural understanding developed by the community, and investigating why the majority of the fisherman community accepts a diversity of ethnicities and religions in their village. A qualitative descriptive methodology was employed, with data gathered through field observations, in-depth interviews, and relevant literature analysis. The findings reveal that the sustenance of multiculturalism in Pusong Village is supported by communal empathy, active roles of community leaders as models of socialization, high social concern, social interactions transcending individual backgrounds, and strong adherence to local norms and rules. Multiculturalism in Pusong Village organically evolves, significantly influenced by the economic and social dynamics associated with the village's position as a port and market area. This study demonstrates how ethnic and religious diversity in Pusong Village can serve as an exemplar of how diversity can promote social harmony and enhance communal welfare.

Abstract

This literature review explores the interplay of strengths, positive emotions, and critical thinking within the counseling practice. This literature review used a methodical approach that included a thorough search strategy in order to find and choose peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last ten years that focused on the interaction between strengths, positive emotions, and critical thinking in the counseling practice. Guided by a strengths-based approach, the review investigates how fostering positive emotions, including as appreciation, pleasure, and hope, might assist the discovery and application of client strengths. This review focused on empirical research articles, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies, that specifically examined the interaction between the three core constructs within the counseling context, excluding dissertations, theses, and studies focusing solely on one construct, while employing a systematic data extraction process with inter-rater reliability checks, followed by rigorous thematic analysis of the collected data. The review also explores the critical thinking abilities that are most important for enhancing the effectiveness of strengths-based therapies, including analysis, evaluation, and problem-solving.The review concludes by examining methods for incorporating critical thinking into the counseling process, such as Socratic questioning, reflective exercises, and cooperative goal planning. The results point to a synergistic interaction between critical thinking, positive emotions, and strengths that has a great deal of potential to improve client outcomes. The review does, however, also stress the significance of a well-rounded strategy that recognizes and deals with both happy and negative emotions during the counseling process.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the role of teachers in shaping student character after the co-19 pandemic through civic education learning in class IV of SD Negeri 200217 Padangsidimpuan. The type of research is descriptive qualitative. The informants in this study were the principal as the key informant and the fourth grade teacher as the main informant. Data collection techniques used: 1) observation, and 2) interview. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that the role of homeroom teacher IV as a teacher at SD Negeri 200217 Padangsidimpuan in shaping student character through civic education learning has been done as much as possible by making learning objectives, presenting material, making learning activities, and rules based on student character building. This can be seen from the existence of character lesson plans and syllabus, teachers who describe the values contained in the material, create active and efficient learning activities with the application of new methods and ideas, and the existence of regulations that have implications for educated values. Teachers have also modelled and practised good behaviour with students inside and outside the classroom. This shows that teachers play a role as teachers in shaping student character after the co-19 pandemic through civic education learning.
