Abstract

Abstract This article examines the dialectical relationship between Muhammadiyah and Javanese culture during the early period of the organization's establishment, namely 1912–1930. This study arises from the need to understand the interaction between modern Islam and the local cultural context, while challenging the historical stigma that views Muhammadiyah as an anti-cultural puritanical movement. The novelty of this book lies in its revisionist perspective, which shows that early Muhammadiyah did not reject Javanese culture, but was inclusive and accommodating towards cultural practices that did not conflict with Islamic principles. The methodology is historical-qualitative, with an archival and literature study approach. The results show that early Muhammadiyah, led by Ahmad Dahlan and other Javanese priyayi figures, utilized language, clothing, names, and local rituals as means of da'wah, while maintaining the purity of Islamic doctrine. A shift in attitude occurred after the 1930s due to the influence of Minangkabau scholars, Wahhabi ideology, and the formation of the Majlis Tarjih, which made the organization more puritanical and Sharia-oriented. This book also highlights Muhammadiyah's contribution to the modernization of education and Javanese society, as well as its relevance to contemporary cultural da'wah ideas. Keywords: Muhammadiyah, Javanese Culture, Modern Islam, Social History, Book Review.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the intervention in the education of Islam in children using the approach of the verses of the Qur'an. The author uses a library research method that refers to literary sources as research data. Research data comes from the Al-Qur'an and Hadith as primary sources. At the same time, secondary sources are obtained from relevant articles and books. The collected data was then analyzed using content analysis techniques with the following steps: determining the problem, developing a framework for thinking, developing methodological tools, data analysis, and data interpretation. The results show that intervention in Islamic education using a Qur'an and Hadith-based approach can provide a strong foundation in shaping Islamic morality, ethics, and personality in children through various educational methods such as equality, cultivation, care, counsel, and punishment. Combining formal and informal education based on Islamic teachings can create a holistic academic environment for children's spiritual and intellectual development. This research contributes to enriching insights on implementing Islamic education in children through a more targeted and measured approach to using the Qur'an and Hadith as the primary sources in Islamic Education. Its practical implications lead to the development of more effective educational strategies to shape the Islamic character of the younger generation as a supply in the face of the ever-evolving challenges of the times.

Abstract

Background. Understanding the meaning of legal verses in the Qur’an requires a rigorous linguistic approach, as Qur’anic law is articulated through highly nuanced Arabic structures, vocabulary, and rhetorical devices. Many misinterpretations of Islamic legal texts stem from insufficient mastery of Arabic language rules, including morphology, syntax, semantics, and contextual pragmatics. Purpose. This study aims to examine how Arabic language rules function as a foundational framework for accurately interpreting the meaning of law in the Qur’an and for deriving sound legal understanding. Method. The research employs a qualitative library-based methodology, utilizing textual analysis of selected Qur’anic legal verses alongside classical works of Arabic grammar (na?w and ?arf), semantics, and Qur’anic exegesis. Data are analyzed through comparative and contextual analysis to identify the relationship between linguistic rules and legal interpretation. Results. The findings demonstrate that Arabic grammatical structures, semantic precision, and rhetorical patterns play a decisive role in determining legal meaning, scope, and implication within Qur’anic texts. Variations in case endings, verb forms, and syntactic constructions significantly influence legal interpretation and normative conclusions. Conclusion. The study concludes that mastery of Arabic language rules is not supplementary but essential for understanding Qur’anic law, as linguistic competence safeguards legal interpretation from reductionism and textual misreading, thereby ensuring methodological accuracy in Islamic legal studies.

Abstract

This article explains some words in the Qur’an which are believed to have been taken from non Arabic word. Whether or not the Quran comprises non Arabic words, and whether the Qur’an has Arabized some foreign an non Arabic words has been stimulated debate among scholars. Some ulama (Islamic scholars) believe that the Quran only embraces Arabic word. But some others argue that there are some words in the Qur’an which are not recognized in Arabic language, and they also suggests that this is a kind of weakness of the Qur’an. This article focuses on how arabisation process has taken place furing the formation of the Qur’an as a corpus

Abstract

This paper wants to describes the contribution of al-Anbari's thought in the interpretation of the verses of the Koran, this is inseparable from al-Anbari's expertise not in the field of interpretation but linguists. The main source of this research is the work of al-Anbari entitled "al-Adhdad" while the secondary source is the work of al-Anbari in other fields and the work of others that are related to the research theme. The results showed that al-Anbari as a nahwu Kufah expert had different thoughts from other Kufah scholars both in the fields of syntax and morfology. His thinking in the problem of syntax and morfology seems to have a significant contribution in providing an understanding of the verses of the Koran, especially the verses in which the word at-tadhad is used. The contribution of his thoughts can be understood from his interpretation of the use of letters, idioms, verbs, name of subject, name of object, circumstance, and derivations in the Koran.

Abstract

The reliance on conventional, teacher-centred methods in Arabic reading instruction often leads to passive learning and low student motivation, thereby limiting proficiency development. While prior research acknowledges collaborative learning's benefits, its specific application through structured models like Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) in Arabic Islamic junior high schools remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of the CIRC model in improving the Arabic reading skills of eighth-grade students. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed at Pemangku Islamic Junior High School, Bandung. The experimental group (n=35) was taught using CIRC, while the control group (n=32) received traditional rule-based instruction. Data from pre- and post-tests were analyzed for normality, homogeneity, and mean differences using paired T-tests and N-Gain scores. Results revealed a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group's reading scores (Mean N-Gain: 0.35; categorized as moderate effectiveness), with the experimental group outperforming the control group. The findings conclude that the CIRC model effectively enhances Arabic reading skills by promoting active, interactive, and socially constructed learning, offering a significant pedagogical innovation for similar educational contexts.

Abstract

Multicultural education is a strategic approach in responding to the reality of the diversity of the Indonesian nation consisting of various ethnicities, religions, races, and cultures. This study aims to analyze the role of schools in implementing multicultural education and its development strategies within the context of the Indonesian national education system. The method used is a literature study with a qualitative-descriptive approach, through the analysis of various literature, theoretical concepts, and educational policies relevant to multiculturalism and educational practices in schools. The results of the study indicate that schools have a central role as agents of socialization of the values of tolerance, equality, and respect for diversity through curriculum, learning, school culture, teacher training, and parental and community involvement. The development of multicultural education can be done through the integration of multicultural materials in subjects, the establishment of special subjects, planned institutional programs, and social movements that promote equality and justice. Furthermore, the application of Banks' five dimensions of multicultural education—namely, material integration, knowledge construction, prejudice reduction, equitable pedagogy, and empowerment of school culture—serves as an important framework for addressing various implementation challenges, such as teachers' limited understanding of students' cultures and persistent social prejudice. The conclusion of this study confirms that strengthening the role of schools in multicultural education is key to realizing an inclusive, tolerant, and civilized Indonesian society in the face of the dynamics of globalization and cultural plurality.

Abstract

The resilience crisis experienced by wives within modern family structures is often rooted in a disconnection between intrapersonal needs and transcendental orientation. This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the psychodynamics of wives’ resilience by positioning self-love as a manifestation of hablumminannas (the horizontal dimension of human relationships) and spiritual coping as a manifestation of hablumminallah (the vertical dimension of the relationship with God) in maintaining family harmony. Employing a qualitative approach with an interpretative phenomenological design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with married women who had encountered significant family stressors yet successfully maintained domestic stability. Data were analyzed using an explicative analysis technique to uncover the essential structure of participants’ lived experiences. The findings reveal that self-love determination functions as an ego-regulating mechanism that prevents pathological self-abnegation, while spiritual coping serves as a cognitive reappraisal mechanism that transforms suffering into theological meaning. The integration of these two dimensions forms a “theo-psychological resilience axis” that enables wives to transcend primitive self-defense mechanisms and achieve mature adaptation. The originality of this study lies in its reconceptualization of self-love, which is often perceived as selfish within secular perspectives, as an ethical obligation to safeguard the trust of the self within the framework of Islamic spirituality. The findings underscore the importance of family-based clinical interventions that integrate self-esteem enhancement through self-appreciation and transcendental spiritual support.

Abstract

This research investigates the semantic complexities of Mubham al-Dalalah to determine its influence on the interpretative process of religious scriptures. It aims to explain how textual ambiguity functions within Islamic legal interpretation and contributes to maintaining legal flexibility across different temporal and social contexts. The study employs a qualitative library research methodology grounded in semantic-hermeneutic principles. Classical Usul al-Fiqh literature is integrated with modern linguistic theories, with classical treatises serving as the primary data source for analyzing four levels of semantic ambiguity. The findings classify semantic ambiguity into four categories: Khafi, Mushkil, Mujmal, and Mutashabih, each requiring a distinct level of interpretative rigor. The study demonstrates that semantic analysis transforms ambiguity from a linguistic obstacle into an opportunity for ijtihad, while contextual considerations are essential for selecting appropriate meanings consistent with divine intent and justice. Furthermore, integrating classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary linguistic approaches produces a more comprehensive understanding of religious texts. The study provides a theoretical framework for strengthening contemporary Islamic legal interpretation by combining classical Usul al-Fiqh with modern semantic analysis. It offers guidance for scholars and jurists in addressing contemporary legal and social issues while preserving fidelity to Islamic textual principles, thereby enhancing the relevance of religious interpretation in increasingly pluralistic and globalized societies. The originality of this study lies in its integration of classical Islamic semantic theory (Mubham al-Dalalah) with modern linguistic and hermeneutic approaches. By systematically conceptualizing the four hierarchical levels of semantic ambiguity within a contemporary interpretative framework, the research provides a novel analytical model that bridges traditional Islamic jurisprudence and modern linguistic scholarship.
