Abstract

Islamic religious education plays a crucial role in shaping the character and morality of individuals in the context of formal education. In the growing digital era, the use of blended learning has become popular and raising the need to develop an appropriate learning evaluation. This research aims to develop an evaluation of Islamic learning in the context of blended learning with wordwall media using the Smith and Ragan model. a developmental research design method was used to analyse the learning context, student needs, and learning tasks, in addition the strategy and assessment phases are also crucial stages of this development process. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, questionnaires, and documentation. Research instruments included questionnaires, interview guides, and observation lists, which were then analysed using qualitative and descriptive quantitative approaches. Drawing from the analysis findings, a dynamic and participatory assessment approach was formulated, leveraging the wordwall platform. Additionally, strategies for structuring, executing, and overseeing evaluations were devised to guarantee their efficacy. The results show that the development of this evaluation has the potential to improve the quality of sslamic learning in the digital era by providing a more diverse, effective and engaging learning experience for students. This research makes a significant contribution to the literature on the use of technology in Islamic religious education in blended learning.

Abstract

Children's understanding of solving problems related to early cognitive abilities with several levels of complexity makes children feel difficult, and students are less able to solve problems correctly according to the sequential order of how to do them. The main factor that causes low problem-solving abilities is the use of inappropriate learning strategies. So that children in the process of solving problems in a lesson also become less than optimal. This study explores the effects of computational thinking strategies with game-based learning compared to conventional approaches on early childhood problem-solving abilities, considering the cognitive styles of field-independent (FI) and field-dependent (FD) children. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design involved 60 children from Blitar Kindergarten. The experimental group received computational thinking instruction through game-based learning, while the control group followed conventional methods. Posttests followed a pretest established baseline abilities and an eight-week intervention. Data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA, revealing significant improvements in problem-solving skills for the experimental group (p < 0.05). FI children outperformed FD peers, indicating cognitive style's impact on learning outcomes. An interaction effect between learning strategies and cognitive styles was identified, emphasizing the importance of tailored educational approaches. The study's findings suggest that computational thinking through game-based learning enhances critical thinking, creativity, and engagement in young learners. However, limitations such as a small sample size and short intervention duration highlight the need for further research. Future studies should involve diverse populations and longer interventions to understand the long-term effects better and optimize educational strategies for individual cognitive styles. These results underscore the potential of innovative educational methods in developing foundational skills essential for academic and life success.

Abstract

In Indonesian education, this neoliberalism ideology is reflected in the increasing role of private educational institutions, the commercialization of education, and the rising cost of education. The result is negative impacts such as access inequality, declining education quality, and the influence of globalization that threatens local cultural identity. This research uses a literature review to explore neoliberalism's impact on Indonesia's education system. Data collection is done through scientific journals, then analyzed and discussed deductively-inductively. As an economic ideology championing market freedom, privatization, and deregulation, neoliberalism impacts education globally, including in Indonesia. The results of the literature analysis found that neoliberalism encourages the marketization of education, privatization of education, deregulation, and competition. Neoliberalism promotes social inequality, where the rich can access the best education while the poor can’t. To deal with neoliberalism and provide access to proper education for the community, the government first needs to increase supervision in education. Second, review the curriculum to include local values, promote cultural pluralism, and prepare students for global challenges. Third, provide holistic-inclusive education. Fourth, actively involving the community in education planning and decision-making. With these steps, Indonesian education can find the right balance between following the principles of neoliberalism that allow for innovation and efficiency while maintaining intrinsic values and providing equal access to education.

Abstract

The learning system in schools requires improvement, especially in the delivery of information and foreign language instruction. Goal-Based Scenario (GBS) is proposed as a solution to address the limitations of traditional learning by guiding students to learn content and skills to achieve learning objectives. The theoretical framework includes the development of GBS by Roger Schank and the Case-Based Reasoning theory that supports it. The benefits of GBS include better understanding, improved decision-making, risk understanding, and enhanced communication. This research emphasizes the importance of experience and cognitive conflict in learning, aligning with problem-based approaches and Gestalt psychology. The practical implications of applying GBS in speaking courses are significant, leading to increased motivation, student engagement, and practical skill development. Active, interactive, and contextual learning can be achieved through role-playing simulations, allowing students to face cognitive conflicts and problem-solving. The steps for implementing GBS in speaking courses include goal identification, mission, storyline development, role identification, scenario creation, resource provision, evaluation, feedback, and implementation, along with monitoring. In conclusion, the application of GBS in speaking courses yields benefits such as the development of communication skills in real-world contexts. GBS motivates students, enhances engagement, and provides an effective approach to foreign language instruction. This paper offers theoretical and practical foundations for the use of GBS in language learning contexts, particularly in speaking courses.
