Abstract

The Advanced Mathematical Thinking (AMT) ability is one of the prioritized mathematical abilities needed to be developed in learning mathematics during tertiary education. The present study sought to test the effectiveness of hybrid learning in improving students' advanced mathematical thinking. The research used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The subject of this study was students of a mathematics education study program at a university in Bandung who attended lecture for the multi-variable in a calculus course. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Of the many variable calculus classes consisting of 2 classes, one class was chosen as the experiment group and the other class as the control group. The sample consists of 40 people for each group. Data analysis used the MANOVA test with normality and homogeneity tests as a prerequisite test. The results showed a difference in AMT's significance between the hybrid learning and conventional groups, where hybrid learning had a higher AMT. Other than that, there is a difference in the significance of AMT between the high motivation group and the low motivation group, where high motivation has a higher AMT, and there is an interaction of learning models and motivational factors to increase AMT. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01288 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah antara siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran model investigasi kelompok dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran biasa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa Madrasah Aliyah dengan sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelas yang diambil secara acak dari delapan kelas XI yang ada di Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Kota Bandung dengan teknik purposive sampling. Kelas pertama sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas kedua sebagai kelas eksperimen. Kelas kontrol memperoleh pembelajaran biasa dan kelas eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran dengan model investigasi kelompok. Pengumpulan data hasil penelitian menggunakan instrumen berupa soal-soal tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah matematis dianalisis secara kuantitatif. Data sebelum dianalisis terlebih dahulu diuji normalitas dan homogenitas dilanjutkan uji-t, jika data tidak normal memakai uji Mann-Whitney. Data hasil skala sikap dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah matematis antara siswa yang menggunakan pembelajaran model investigasi kelompok dengan siswa yang menggunakan pembelajaran biasa. Analisis data angket skala sikap memperlihatkan bahwa siswa bersikap positif terhadap pembelajaran matematika yang mencakup sikap terhadap pelajaran matematika, pembelajaran dengan model investigasi kelompok maupun terhadap soal-soal kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah matematis.

Abstract

Lingkaran merupakan salah satu materi yang dapat kita temukan dalam mata pelajaran matematika di berbagai tingkat pendidikan baik sekolah dasar, sekolah menengah bahkan perguruan tinggi. Banyak hal menarik yang dapat kita bahas pada materi lingkaran, salah satunya mengenai penggunaan nilai π pada keliling dan luas lingkaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemahaman mahasiswa teknik sipil terkait nilai π yang digunakan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan pada keliling serta luas lingkaran. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dimana peneliti menjelaskan hasil yang diperoleh dari angket terbuka dan wawancara yang dilakukan kepada 27 responden yang merupakan mahasiswa teknik sipil tingkat 2. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan banyak mahasiswa yang masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menentukan pendekatan nilai π yang tepat, bukan hanya itu bahkan sebelum mensubstitusikan nilai π ke dalam langkah yang tepat, banyak mahasiswa yang masih mengalami kesulitan dalam memilih cara penyelesaian yang tepat sehingga jika dosen ingin membahas penerapan konsep nilai π dalam bidang teknik sipil maka terlebih dahulu harus menjelaskan dari mana nilai itu didapatkan dan menjelaskan kembali materi yang berhubungan dengan nilai π tersebut seperti materi lingkaran.

Abstract

Bangun ruang sisi lengkung merupakan bagian dari geometri yang mempelajarinya merupakan hal yang penting, karena memungkinkan siswa untuk menganalisis dan menafsirkan dunia tempat mereka tinggal serta membantu mereka dalam mengoperasikan materi lainnya. Akan tetapi, fakta yang ditemukan dilapangan menunjukkan masih ada hambatan dan kesalahan yang dijumpai siswa pada materi ini. Untuk mengatasinya diperlukan kegiatan penganalisaan kesalahan siswa dalam memecahkan masalah bangun ruang sisi lengkung. Hal ini bertujuan agar kesalahan-kesalahan dan faktor-faktor penyebab kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa dapat diketahui, sehingga dapat dilakukan tindak lanjut dan penanganan terhadap kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut. Dengan demikian artikel ini bertujuan untuk melakukan kajian berupa permasalahan-permasalahan yang umumnya dihadapi siswa pada materi bangun ruang sisi lengkung. Kajian ini berupa penelusuran hasil penelitian pada jurnal-jurnal nasional. Kegiatan ini peneliti rangkum dari temuan hasil analisis 10 jurnal. Hasil pengkajian tersebut menunjukkan permasalahan yang dihadapi siswa pada materi bangun ruang sisi lengkung secara umum adalah masalah konsep dan prinsip (prosedural, perhitungan, kecerobohan, dan kalkulasi). Dalam artikel ini juga diberikan upaya yang dapat dilakukan guru dalam membelajarkan bangun ruang sisi lengkung, diantaranya: menggunakan alat peraga, memberikan soal secara berkala, melakukan remedial bagi siswa yang mengalami kesulitan, dan dalam proses pembelajaran memperhatikan fase-fase perkembangan geometri siswa dalam teori van hiele. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat bermanfaat dalam bidang pendidikan khususnya pengajaran matematika, di mana dapat dilakukan tindak lanjut dan penanganan terhadap permasalahan-permasalahan bangun ruang sisi lengkung yang ditemukan dalam kelas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' rigorous mathematical thinking from three levels of cognitive function structures associated with their contribution to self-assessment metacognitive knowledge in Real Number System lectures. This research is qualitative research with a type of case study. The research subjects were three students of the Mathematics Education Study Program who contracted the Real Number. System course selecting research subjects based on test results identifies students into three rigorous mathematical thinking cognitive function structure levels. This study's results indicate that rigorous mathematical thinking contributes to students' self-assessment metacognitive knowledge. The quality of review of students who have a rigorous mathematical thinking level can lead to thoroughness, intellectual perseverance, critical investigation, and truth-seeking in solving problems appropriately, structurally, and systematically into a direct experience in the learning process is described as metacognitive. Students at the level of abstract relational thinking can assess their own abilities very well, learn independently, and choose with certainty how to solve problems by placing the right method. Qualitative thinking level students focus more on symbols or symbols and represent their knowledge through visualization. He prefers that the type of evaluation problem solving is not in the form of long, detailed sentences but instead immediately transforms the sentences into clear mathematical symbols

Abstract

Abstract AMT ability is one of the skills that is a priority to be developed in learning mathematics in universities. This research aims to test the effect of hybrid learning and enjoyment learning in improving Advance Mathematical Thinking of prospective teacher students moderated by learning style. This research is a quantitative research that aims to examine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The sample in this study is conducted by purposive sampling based on certain criteria. The research data is obtained by distributing questionnaires to the mathematics education program student at University X in Bandung City. The data collected is analyzed by path analysis assisted by Smart PLS application. Smart PLS analysis in this study is carried out in 2 stages which are the analysis of the outer model and the inner model. Analysis of the inner model is aimed at (1) testing the validity and reliability of the instrument and (2) performing the r-square test to determine the percentage of influence. The test results show that learning enjoyment and hybrid learning have a significant positive effect on advanced mathematics learning. The learning styles in this study have not been able to moderate the relationship between hybrid learning and enjoy learning on Advance Mathematical Thinking. Hybrid learning can be used as an alternative or learning solution in improving advanced mathematical learning.Keywords: hybrid learning, Advance Mathematical Thinking, enjoyment learning, prospective teacher students, learning style Abstrak Kemampuan AMT merupakan salah satu kemampuan matematis yang menjadi prioritas untuk dikembangkan dalam pembelajaran matematika di perguruan tinggi. Penelitian Ini Bertujuan Untuk Menguji Pengaruh Hybrid Learning dan Enjoyment Learning Dalam Meningkatkan Berpikir Advance Mathematical Thinking of Prospective Teacher Students dimoderasi Gaya Belajar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif yang bertjuan untuk menguji pengaruh variabel independen terhadap variabel dependen. Sample dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan purposive sampling dengan berdasarkan beberapa kriteria tertentu. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan menyebar quesioner pada mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Matematika di Universitas X di Kota Bandung. Data yang terkumpul dianalisa dengan analisis path berbantuan aplikasi Smart PLS. Analisis smart PLS pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan 2 tahapan yaitu analisa outer model dan inner model. Analisa inner model untuk 1) menguji validitas dan reliabilitas instrumen serta 2) melakukan uji r square untuk mengetahui presentase pengaruh. Hasil pengujian hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa enjoyment learning dan Hybrid learning berpengaruh secara positif signifikan terhadap Advance mathematic learning. Adapun, gaya belajar dalam penelitianini belum mampu memoderasi hubungan hybrid learning dan enjoyment learning terhadap Advance Mathematic Thinking. Hybrid learning dapat dapat dijadikan alternatif atau solusi pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan Advance Mathematic Learning. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi apakah mahasiswa calon guru matematika mampu membangun situasi didaktis matematis pada siswa SMP dalam pembelajaran matematika berbasis ICT (Information and Communications Technology). Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa calon guru yang telah praktik mengajar di sekolah. Subjek menggunakan aplikasi yang dibuat sendiri oleh subjek. Aplikasi yang dibuat berupa Augmented Reality (realitas bertumbuh), yaitu teknologi yang menggabungkan benda maya dua dimensi dan atau pun tiga dimensi ke dalam sebuah lingkungan nyata tiga dimensi lalu memproyeksikan benda-benda maya tersebut dalam waktu nyata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan karakteristik situasi didaktis dalam pembelajaran matematika berbantuan ICT pada siswa SMP yang dibangun oleh mahasiswa calon guru adalah sebagai berikut: situasi didaktis matematis yang dibangun belum mengonstruksi pengetahuan siswa secara mandiri; situasi didaktis matematis yang dibangun cenderung berasal dari informasi yang disampaikan guru, bukan dari media ICT yang digunakan; dan ICT yang dilibatkan dalam pembelajaran belum mampu mengelaborasikan proses kognitif siswa dalam jejak pembelajarannya. Analysis of a didactic situation in ICT-assisted mathematics learning in junior high school studentsAbstractThis study aims to identify whether prospective mathematics teacher students are able to build mathematical didactic situations in junior high school students in ICT-based mathematics learning. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects were prospective teachers who had practiced teaching at school. The subjects used applications made by themselves. Those applications were in the form of augmented reality (reality grows), namely technology that combines two-dimensional and or three-dimensional virtual objects into a real three-dimensional environment and then projecting these virtual objects in real-time. The results showed the characteristics of didactic situations in ICT-assisted mathematics learning in junior high school students built by prospective teacher students were as follows: didactic mathematical situations that were built had not constructed students' knowledge independently; the built mathematical didactic situation tends to originate from the information conveyed by the teacher, not from the ICT media used; and ICT involved in learning has not been able to elaborate the cognitive processes of students in their learning footprint.

Abstract

Fraction division is one of the most difficult subjects in elementary school. Not only elementary students but many prospective teachers don’t understand the fraction division concept yet—most of them using a keep-change-flip algorithm to solve fraction division problems. A study using rectangle representation was conducted by us to prospective teachers. This study aims to see whether this rectangle representation will make prospective teachers understand or not. To do so, we made a mixed-method study with 80 prospective teachers as participants. The results show that 53,75% of prospective teachers use the keep-change-flip algorithm without understanding the concept of fraction division, and just 15% of prospective teachers understand fraction division. We assume that most prospective teachers still can’t imagine how fraction division works in a real-life context. They remember what they used to do to finish the fraction division problem that their teacher has introduced in primary school. Based on the results, we conclude that the study with rectangle representation still needs an improvement, whether the teacher’s explanation or the rectangle media.

The didactic design of the concept of the surface area of a flat-sided prism based on van Hiele’s theory has been adapted to the pandemic situation and implemented to online learning. The research method employed was a qualitative method with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The initial step in this research was to test the concept of the surface area of a flat-sided prism on 53 9th-grade students for the 2019/2020 school year to identify learning obstacles. Following the identification of the learning obstacles, an initial didactic design was then drawn up by applying the phases in van Hiele’s model of geometric thinking. The didactic design prepared was subsequently implemented online to 8th-grade junior high school students. The results of the implementation of the didactic design were analyzed as the final product. The conclusion from this research is that by using a didactic design that considers the stages of van Hiele geometry in understanding the concept of surface area of a flat-sided prism, it can help students understand the concept of a flat-sided prism correctly. It was found that students' understanding of the concept of the surface area of a prism improved from visual level to informal deduction.

Abstract

Continuous treatment is needed in developing mathematical dispositions. Even at the higher education level, some prospective teachers still need proper treatment in developing their mathematical dispositions. This study tries to reveal instructors' role in fostering their students' mathematical disposition to better didactical situations. This study is qualitative research with a content analysis approach. The results obtained in this study indicate that the instructor's role is still needed in the classroom regardless of the students' mathematical disposition. Instructors ' expected learning role becomes diverse based on the mathematical disposition grouping between good, moderate, and less mathematical dispositions. For prospective teachers who have an excellent mathematical disposition, the instructor's role is to confirm a theorem, confirm answers to questions, and the benefits of contextual topics. For prospective teachers who have a satisfactory mathematical disposition, the instructor's role is to motivate, direct the learning, and keep the classroom conductivity. Whereas for prospective teachers deficient in mathematical disposition, the instructor's role is needed as a direct learning source, structured learning director, and an enjoyable learning rhythm.
