Abstract

Mathematics plays a fundamental role in developing logical, analytical, and systematic thinking; therefore, mathematics learning should emphasize not only procedural mastery but also meaningful conceptual understanding. One essential process standard in mathematics learning is mathematical representation, as it enables students to organize ideas, communicate reasoning, and transform abstract concepts into visual, verbal, and symbolic forms. In plane geometry, particularly quadrilaterals, many students experience difficulties in drawing accurate figures, linking geometric properties to formulas, and translating contextual problems into mathematical models. In addition to cognitive challenges, affective factors such as low perseverance and the tendency to give up easily indicate the need to strengthen students’ mathematical resilience. This study aimed to develop a group investigation–based mathematics e-comic for quadrilateral topics at the junior high school level and to examine its feasibility and effectiveness. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The product was validated by subject-matter experts and media experts and implemented with 32 seventh-grade students at SMP NU Darul Ma’arif. Data were collected through validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and learning evaluations. The results indicate that the developed e-comic meets high feasibility criteria and receives positive responses from teachers and students. The integration of narrative visuals with group investigation activities enhances engagement, supports students’ understanding of quadrilateral concepts, and encourages active participation and discussion. Therefore, the proposed e-comic is suitable as an alternative learning medium for junior high school mathematics instruction.

Abstract

The differences in the characteristics of field dependent and field independent students in applying their mathematical literacy affect the results of students' work in solving mathematical problems. This study aims to identify students' mathematical literacy abilities viewed from cognitive style especially field dependent and field independent students in solving mathematical problems. This study uses a case study method with a qualitative approach which was carried out in one of the junior high schools in North Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province, involving 32 students of class VIII in the 2022/2023 academic year who had studied number pattern material as participants. The subjects in this study were selected purposively, namely 3 students with a Field Dependent (FD) cognitive style. Data in the study were collected using the Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT), mathematical literacy tests, and interviews. The research findings show that the majority of students have a cognitive style FI compared to FD. Most students achieved mathematical literacy skills at level 3. In terms of cognitive style, from the five levels of questions given, level 1-level 5, FD subjects with low, medium, and high initial mathematical abilities (KAM) achieved mathematical literacy up to level 3. The students met the formulate, employ and interpret indicators but still had difficulty writing mathematical symbols.

Abstract

Extended Reality (XR) which includes AR, VR, MR, has become one of the important innovations in the development of mathematics learning media, especially in the field of geometry. This review aims to analyze the impact, implementation challenges, and future development directions of XR in geometry learning. A PRISMA-based systematic review was conducted with thematic analysis of literature from reputable international journals. The results of the study show that XR improves the effectiveness of learning and spatial thinking skills, student engagement, and learning motivation through interactive visualization and immersive learning experiences. However, negative impacts that need to be considered, include the dependence on technology, physiological and cognitive disorders, and heightened distraction that affects performance. Implementation challenges include limited infrastructure, teacher readiness, device access, costs, appropriate pedagogical design, and curriculum support for optimal XR integration.  Future developments suggest that XR holds strong transformative potential through integration with artificial intelligence (AI), adaptive learning systems, and educational metaverse environments. This study highlights the need for structured XR integration strategies and further research on long-term effectiveness and appropriate XR-based pedagogical design in mathematics learning, particularly geometry.

Abstract

Achievement emotions are recognized as key factors influencing students' success in mathematics. However, no Achievement Emotions Questionnaire for Mathematics (AEQ-M) specifically tailored for Indonesian senior high school students has been developed. This study aims to translate the 68-item AEQ-M into Indonesian and validate its use for senior high school students in Indonesia, termed AEQ-M-SHS-I. A purposive cluster sampling method was used to select 198 tenth and eleventh-grade students in West Java, Indonesia. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, item analysis, and reliability testing. Structural, convergent, and discriminant validity were assessed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). All of data analyses were supported by SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0. The Indonesian AEQ-M-SHS-I consists of ten factors and 68 items, all demonstrating good discriminant validity. CFA showed good structural model fit indices (e.g., X²/df = 2.245, CFI = 0.937, TLI = 0.950, SRMR = 0.059, RMSEA = 0.079). Moreover, all of ten emotions in the AEQ-M-SHS-I had ideal convergent validity. Additionally, the tool exhibited high internal consistency (? = 0.868). These results indicate that the AEQ-M-SHS-I is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing achievement emotions in mathematics among Indonesian senior high school students.

Abstract

Students continue to experience difficulties understanding measures of central tendency, and the way statistical tasks are presented in textbooks may contribute to these difficulties. However, studies examining textbook task presentation from a praxeological perspective remain limited. This study aims to analyze the presentation of measures of central tendency in Grade VIII mathematics textbooks using a praxeological framework and to propose improvements to minimize students' learning obstacles. This study employed a qualitative, praxeological approach to examine the textbook's task presentation. The findings indicate that several tasks have the potential to generate ontogenic, didactic, and epistemological obstacles, arising from the absence of prior conceptual explanations, inaccuracies in visual representations, and insufficient connections between different forms of data representation, which may limit students’ conceptual understanding and encourage procedural reasoning. These findings imply that teachers need to provide additional conceptual support when using textbooks. In contrast, textbook authors and curriculum developers should design tasks that are conceptually structured, use accurate representations, and include gradual transitions between different forms of data to better support students' understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate and examine PBL treatment duration predicted as a potential factor moderating heterogeneity of students' MCTS. A meta-analysis by selecting the random effect model was employed to conduct this study. Data analysis used the Q Cochrane test and Z test supported by Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. A literature search found 220 documents, and the final literature selection established 23 documents in journal articles and 4 documents in proceeding articles indexed by Scopus, Google Scholar, or Web of Science and published in the period of 2013 – 2021. The results revealed that the p-value of the Q statistic related to the factor of PBL treatment duration was less than 0,05 (p = 0,535). It indicates that PBL treatment duration is not a significant factor moderating heterogeneity of students' MCTS. It interprets that the gap of students' MCTS level through PBL is not caused by the treatment duration factor. Furthermore, PBL treatment in the period of 3 – 6 months was more effective to enhance students' MCTS than PBL treatment duration was less than 3 months or more than 6 months. For a further similar meta-analysis study, other researchers should investigate and examine other potential factors such as PBL class capacity and students’ demography that are able to moderate heterogeneity of students’ MCTS

Abstract

Problem solving ability is a student's capacity in solving questions or commonly called questions. Problem solving ability is an important component in solving student problems in answering questions given by the teacher. In this study, qualitative studies were analyzed on students' problem solving abilities at the elementary, junior high and high school levels between 1999 and 2022. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) which is a study methodology collects primary data that has been published in journals indexed by Sinta and Scopus . Collected 24 articles of data extraction results adjusted to the selection criteria. Qualitative methods were used in data analysis. Data are grouped according to year of publication, level of education, demography, journal indexer, study materials, and study findings. The research findings show that research on problem solving skills is a major trend in the field of social arithmetic from 1999 to 2022. Many studies on problem solving skills have been conducted at the elementary school level in the Java region. However, at all school levels, the ability to solve math problems is still very high. low . Finding the right solution is the most difficult part for students to master in the problem solving process. One of the factors is that students do not fully understand the material. This is a challenge for researchers and educators who conduct research on students' problem solving abilities, especially in fields where problems are rarely investigated.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the findings of a study on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities, which were examined using the Adversity Quotient (AQ) type. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with the PRISMA protocol for all research articles indexed on Google Scholar, Garuda, ERIC, and Semantic. The sample in this study consisted of 29 publications about students' mathematical problem-solving abilities that were reviewed using the Adversity Quotient (AQ) and were published between 2018 and January 2023 in Indonesia. The findings of this study will be evaluated based on the year of publication, education level, research location, selected material, problem-solving phases used, and the AQ-based description of students' mathematical problem-solving ability. Using the SLR method, it was discovered that research on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in terms of AQ type received a lot of attention each year, with the majority of this research being conducted at the junior high school education level with the Polya stage on the topic of algebra and on the island of Java. Furthermore, it was discovered that AQ effects students' characteristics in terms of mathematical problem solving abilities qualitatively by synthesizing the results of study on students' mathematical problem solving abilities in terms of AQ type.
