Abstract

The importance of students' mastery of statistics is supported by the inclusion of this material in the mathematics curriculum since primary and secondary education. The role of statistics itself has penetrated into various professions and fields of science. Regarding statistical mastery students need to have statistical literacy skills in the form of basic skills in reading graphs, graph titles or themes, giving meaning to units of graphs, finding certain values or units, determining maximum and minimum values or the difference between the two. This study aims to describe students' errors in solving statistical literacy test similar to minimum competency assessment or asesmen kompetensi minimum (in Indonesian) based on the Kastolan stages. The type of this study is qualitative research with a case study design. The subjects of this research were 5 students of grade 11, a senior high school in Banjarbaru, South Borneo, selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using tests and interviews. During the study, it was found that errors made by students include conceptual errors, procedural errors, and technical errors. Students' errors in solving statistical literacy test can have an impact on their daily life when they are dealing with data. Moreover, errors made by students when solving problems can be an early sign that there are learning obstacles experienced by students.

Abstract

The relationship between types of quadrilaterals is one of the concepts that students must master. However, based on literature studies, a lot of students made mistakes in determining the relationship between types of quadrilaterals. This research aims to describe missing concept images and mis-in concept images on quadrilateral concepts. When a concept's example is classified as not being an example of that concept, it is called a missing concept image; conversely, when a concept's non-example is classified as an example of that concept. A factor which can affects students' concept image is cognitive style. This research used a qualitative research design with a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. The subjects of this research were two students in 7th grade, each with field-dependent and field-independent cognitive styles. This research used two instruments, namely the GEFT test instrument to determine the type of student's cognitive style and a test instrument with two-tier multiple-choice questions to understand students' concept image of the relationship between types of quadrilaterals. The results of the research showed that missing concept images and mis-in concept images occurred in a student with field-dependent cognitive style, while in student with a field-independent cognitive style there was a mis-in concept image. The results of this research can be used as a consideration in designing learning that can minimizes concept image errors.

Abstract

Abstract: How is the Process of Mathematical Literacy When Viewd From the Initial Mathematical Performance? The role of mathematics functionally in the context of everyday life which refers to the ability of individuals to respond to needs and obstacles in society is known as the conception of mathematical literacy. Mathematical literacy is an important aspect that every individual has to face the 21st century, there are 3 important processes in mathematical literacy, namely formulating, employ and interpreting mathematical results into everyday problems, besides that students' initial mathematical abilities are important and related to mathematical literacy. Therefore the aim of this research is to analyze the process of mathematical literacy in terms of initial mathematical abilities. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a subject of 3 students consisting of 1 student each with high, medium and low initial math skills in junior high school students in Cimahi. The instruments used in this study were a Mathematical Literacy test instrument consisting of 3 questions, an initial mathematical performancetest and an interview guide. The results of this study indicate that students with low performance cannot carry out the 3 processes of mathematical literacy (Formulation, employ and interpreting), students with moderate abilities can formulate problems in mathematical form and use mathematical concepts for problem solving but are still wrong in doing calculations and unable to interpret the information contained in the table/diagram. Whereas for students with high initial mathematical performance, they can formulate everyday problems in mathematical representations, they can also use concepts, facts and procedures for problem solving but are not yet precise at the stage of interpreting and communicating in writing Keywords: mathematical literacy, initial mathematical performance.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202446

Abstract

The Function of Ethnomathematics in the Development of Pancasila Student Profiles for Indonesian Students Via Mathematics Education in Schools. The present mathematics curriculum in Indonesia (IND) places a strong emphasis on the creation of a Pancasila student profile in order to ensure that pupils are learning mathematics in a meaningful way. This paper suggests an integration of ethnomathematics into the formal mathematics curriculum as one approach to dealing with these learning issues. It is based on a literature assessment of studies on ethnomathematics, mathematics education, and Pancasila student profile. The literature review method used with a narrative review design. A total of 28 articles were selected for publication at the final stage of the review process. In light of the preceding explanation, it is clear that ethnomathematics plays a part in the formal school mathematics curriculum since the context-relevant and constraint-filled problem-solving techniques give many abstract mathematical notions the required contextual meaning. Keywords: ethnomathematics, mathematics education, pancasila student profiles.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202305

Abstract

Many researchers have carried out meta-analysis studies related to realistic mathematics education (RME) to enhance mathematical ability. However, their research does not focus on mathematical reasoning ability (MRA). This study aims to estimate and examine the effect of RME implementation in enhancing the MRA of Indonesian students, as well as to explore the moderating factors that influence students' heterogeneous MRA. The meta-analysis examined twenty-five relevant primary research published in national and international journals and sessions between 2010 and 2022. The steps of this research are formulate the problem, inclusion criteria, literature search strategy, study selection, data extraction, statistics analysis, interpretation and reporting. To calculate the effect size, the analytical tool employed the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) program using the Hedge formula. Based on the random effect model, the total RME implementation had a very high effect (g = 1,064; p<0,05), significantly enhancing the MRA of Indonesian students. Furthermore, class capacity, educational level, and technological assistance did not influence students' heterogeneous MRA in the RME. These findings imply that Indonesian math educators should consider RME as one of the best ways to implement mathematics learning in the classroom to enhance students' MRA.

Abstract

This meta-analysis study aims to investigate the effectiveness of applying realistic mathematics education (RME) in Indonesia to students' mathematical abilities. This study analyzes 95 effect sizes from 72 studies that have been published in national and international journals or proceedings from 2010 to 2019. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software is used to aid analysis. As a result of the study, the overall effect size was 1.104, with a standard error of 0.065 according to the random-effects model. These results indicate that the average person who is ranked 13th in the experimental group is equivalent to those who are ranked 4th in the control group. This research was carried out by considering four characteristics, resulting in significant differences in terms of sample size and duration of treatment. Thus the application of RME in Indonesia is very effective in improving students' mathematical abilities by considering the sample size and duration of treatment.
