Abstract

Background: Peripheral neuropathy is a common side effect of paclitaxel chemotherapy that can cause tingling, numbness, and pain in the hands and feet. Metformin, an antidiabetic drug, shows potential in preventing and managing paclitaxel chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. This review article aims to evaluate the efficacy of metformin in the prevention and management of peripheral neuropathy due to paclitaxel chemotherapy. Methods: Electronic literature (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science) was reviewed to find clinical studies examining the efficacy of metformin in the prevention and management of paclitaxel chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Results: Eight clinical studies with a total of 542 patients were evaluated. Metformin significantly reduced the risk of developing peripheral neuropathy compared with placebo (OR = 0.54; 95% CI: 0.32-0.91). Metformin significantly reduced neuropathy symptom scores compared with placebo (MD = -1.52; 95% CI: -2.43 to -0.61). Metformin significantly improved patients' quality of life compared with placebo (MD = 0.48; 95% CI: 0.17-0.79). Conclusion: Metformin shows promising efficacy in the prevention and management of paclitaxel chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.

Abstract

Background: Parathyroid adenoma is a benign neoplasm of the parathyroid glands and can result in hypercalcemia due to excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). This elevated PTH can have various manifestations, including bone fractures. Case presentation: We report the case of Tn. AB is a 41-year-old man with a series of recurrent bone fractures following minor traumas. Within a span of three years, he suffered from fractures in the right femur, left femur, and left humerus, which led to multiple surgeries, including total hip replacements. Further assessments showed an increased level of PTH and a suspicious lesion in the neck region. A CT scan revealed a potential parathyroid adenoma in the peritracheal region of the right side. Moreover, a Sestamibi scan confirmed an adenoma in the postero-inferior lobe of the right thyroid, consistent with Perrier type C, alongside osteoblastic processes and brown tumours. A subsequent parathyroidectomy confirmed a 2 cm diameter adenoma in the right lower parathyroid lobe. Histopathology from the excised tissue confirmed the diagnosis of parathyroid adenoma. Conclusion: Parathyroid adenomas can have significant clinical manifestations, including recurrent bone fractures, due to their metabolic effects on bone integrity. Early detection and surgical intervention can prevent complications and improve the quality of life for these patients.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the Implementation of E-Performance Policy in the Wajo Regency Regional Secretariat. This study uses a qualitative approach and produces descriptive data. Data collection was used by observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The data obtained from this study were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, withdrawal and conclusion testing. The results of this study show that the implementation of the E-Performance policy in the Wajo Regency Regional Secretariat has not been optimally implemented. The four indicators of the success of the implementation of policies that are implemented optimally are disposition, because it is seen from the honest attitude of the apparatus and their commitment in working on the implementation of E-Performance in the Wajo Regency Regional Secretariat. Furthermore, communication indicators have not been implemented properly, this is due to socialization about E-Performance which has not included employees as a whole. Human resource indicators have not been implemented optimally, this is due to the absence of special companions and there are still many employees who still have difficulty understanding the use of E-Performance. The indicators of bureaucratic structure have not been implemented properly, this is because there are no special regulations or standard operating procedures that regulate the use of E-Performance in the Wajo Regency Regional Secretariat

Abstract

Attendance is one of the important activities in organizational management, especially in the fields of education and business. Until now, attendance systems are still mostly done manually with signatures or ID cards. However, these methods are prone to fraud, such as buddy punching or data manipulation. This study aims to develop a facial recognition-based attendance system on the Android platform using Regula Forensics Face SDK. Test results at thresholds of 70%, 85%, and 90% show that the 85% threshold provides the best compromise, with a False Acceptance Rate (FAR) of 0% and a False Rejection Rate (FRR) of 14.3%. In conclusion, a facial recognition-based attendance system can be implemented on the Android platform using the Regula Forensics Face SDK. This technology has been proven to improve security and efficiency in Android attendance systems. In addition, this technology offers an accurate, fast, and secure biometric solution through flexible integration with Flutter. Despite technical and licensing limitations, this technology is still feasible for implementation in modern attendance systems.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to ascertain whether the guided practice method could enhance the competencies of second grade students at SDN 24 Palu. The objective is to enhance the reading aloud abilities of grade 2 students at SDN 24 Palu through the utilisation of the guided practice method, thereby enabling them to read with proficient and accurate pronunciation and intonation. This research is a classroom action research project, employing a research design based on the Kurt Lewin model of PTK, which encompasses the following four phases: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The assessment was based on the observation of the reading aloud process. The subjects were 25 second-grade students from SDN 24 Palu. The action research process was conducted in two cycles. The data was collected in the form of a table of reading aloud skills, and based on this data, the researchers were able to determine the assessment of the reading aloud skill process. The aforementioned table of learning outcomes for grade 2 students at SDN 24 Palu was consulted. The results demonstrated that the initial observation yielded an average learning outcome of 60.96, with only 20% of the learning process deemed complete. The implementation of the guided practice method in Cycle 1 led to an increase in the average result for reading aloud skills to 76. The average learning outcome was 68.68 with a percentage of completeness of 60%. This reflected the results of the first cycle, whereby it was possible to increase the average student learning outcome in the second cycle to 87.68 with a percentage of completeness reaching 88%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the guided practice method can improve the ability to read aloud.

Abstract

The main problem in this study was the low science learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Poboya. The initial results indicated that most students had not yet achieved the minimum mastery criteria, either individually or classically. This situation required the use of a more effective learning strategy to improve students’ understanding. Therefore, this study applied the inquiry method, which emphasizes active student involvement in observing phenomena, discovering concepts, and drawing conclusions based on their own learning experiences. The research employed Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The findings revealed that the inquiry method significantly improved students’ science learning outcomes. In the first cycle, the classical mastery level was only 63% with an absorption rate of 64.21%. After improvements in the second cycle, classical mastery increased to 100% with an absorption rate of 88.42%. These results demonstrate that the inquiry method not only enhanced learning outcomes but also created a more interactive, enjoyable, and motivating learning atmosphere, encouraging students to actively engage in understanding science concepts.

The research instruments were learning motivation questionnaire, PjBL questionnaire, teacher and student observation sheets. The data analysis technique in this study is a hypothesis test using a non-parametric statistical test using the Man Whitney U test technique and based on the posttest calculation of the control and experimental classes obtained Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.046 <0.05. This shows that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, so the average social studies learning motivation of students in the experimental class is different from the average social studies learning motivation of students in the control class and it can be concluded that there is an effect of using a project-based learning model on social studies learning motivation of fifth grade students of SD Inpres 3 Tondo.
