Abstract

Writing is a fundamental literacy skill that involves complex cognitive, linguistic, motor, and socio-environmental processes, particularly for children with special needs (CSN). Research examining these psycholinguistic processes within inclusive Islamic boarding school contexts remains limited. This study aims to describe the psycholinguistic dynamics involved in writing instruction for children with special needs at Tri Bhakti Al-Qudwah Inclusive Islamic Boarding School in Metro City and to analyze the contribution of the inclusive boarding school environment to students’ writing processes. The study employed a qualitative case-study design. Participants consisted of six students with special needs, three accompanying teachers, and one boarding school administrator selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, document analysis, and stimulated recall, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that writing instruction involves four interconnected stages: planning, linguistic formulation, motor-tactile transcription, and monitoring and revision. Major challenges include high working-memory demands, difficulties converting phonological representations into Arabic Braille symbols, limited fine-motor coordination, and restricted revision opportunities. The inclusive boarding school environment, characterized by literacy habituation, peer tutoring, individualized assistance, and flexible learning accommodations, positively supports writing fluency and students’ confidence. The novelty of this study lies in integrating psycholinguistic analysis with the bilingual Arabic–Indonesian context of inclusive Islamic boarding school education. The findings provide pedagogical implications for developing adaptive and contextualized writing instruction models for children with special needs in inclusive Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PJBL) integrated with digital storytelling to develop students’ Arabic writing skills (Mahārah Kitābah). The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted with third-semester students of the Arabic Language Education Program at Universitas Ma’arif Lampung. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and analysis of students’ digital storytelling projects. The findings indicate that the integration of digital storytelling into PJBL supported the development of students’ ability to compose Arabic narrative texts in a more structured, communicative, and contextual manner. The project-based activities also increased students’ engagement and motivation to write by providing opportunities to produce authentic texts and publish their work through digital and social media platforms. Furthermore, the learning model facilitated the development of several 21st-century competencies, particularly digital literacy, creativity, collaboration, and communication. These findings suggest that the integration of digital storytelling into PJBL can serve as an innovative learning strategy for developing students’ Mahārah Kitābah in Arabic language education, particularly in response to the demands of digital learning environments

Abstract

The development of digital technology has significantly influenced the way English is taught and learned, particularly in pronunciation practice. One of the applications that can assist students in improving their pronunciation is ELSA Speak, which provides automatic feedback on spoken English. This study aimed to examine the implementation of ELSA Speak in English pronunciation learning and to explore students’ responses to its use in the classroom. This study used a qualitative case study design conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Batanghari Nuban. The participants consisted of one English teacher and 31 eighth-grade students, with five students selected for in-depth interviews. The data were obtained through interviews and analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis. The results showed that the application supported students in practicing pronunciation more regularly and helped them recognize and correct their pronunciation errors through instant feedback. In addition, students responded positively because the application made the learning process more interactive and engaging. However, several obstacles were also identified, such as unstable internet connections and students’ difficulties in pronouncing certain English sounds. The findings also indicate that the teacher plays an important role in guiding students in using the application effectively during the learning process. The teacher’s guidance helps students understand how to use the feedback provided by the application to improve their pronunciation. Therefore, the integration of technology-based applications such as ELSA Speak can be considered as an alternative tool to support pronunciation learning in English classrooms. This study also suggests that the use of digital pronunciation applications can enhance students’ engagement and provide additional opportunities for independent pronunciation practice.

Abstract

Writing skills (mahārah al-kitābah) are among the productive skills in Arabic language learning that require mastery of vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and accurate meaning construction. In practice, Arabic Language Education students still encounter various difficulties in producing written texts that conform to Arabic linguistic rules. This study aims to analyze syntactic and semantic errors in students’ Arabic writing and to identify the factors underlying these errors. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using the error analysis method. The participants were 30 fourth-semester students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at STIT Bustanul Ulum Lampung Tengah who were enrolled in the Insya’ II course. The data consisted of students’ Arabic compositions on the theme Al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah fī ‘Aṣr al-Thawrah al-Raqmiyyah and were collected through documentation, observation, and interviews with 10 students and the course lecturer. Data were analyzed through the stages of error identification, classification, description, and interpretation. Data validity was established through methodological triangulation and expert judgment. The findings revealed 142 linguistic errors, consisting of 88 syntactic errors (61.9%) and 54 semantic errors (38.1%). The syntactic errors mainly involved violations of na‘at-man‘ut and gender agreement, inaccurate application of i‘rāb, inappropriate use of ḥurūf al-jarr, and errors in iḍāfah constructions. Meanwhile, semantic errors included Indonesian language interference through literal translation, inaccurate word choice, and the use of expressions that were inappropriate to the context. The factors underlying these errors included interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer and overgeneralization, as well as limited exposure to authentic Arabic texts. These findings highlight the need for Arabic writing instruction that integrates error analysis, contextualized grammar instruction, and the enrichment of Arabic vocabulary and collocations to improve students’ syntactic and semantic accuracy.

Abstract

TThis study aims to analyze the strategic role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in strengthening students’ character education in response to the influence of Korean Pop (K-Pop) culture among Grade X-7 students at SMA Negeri 2 Metro. The growing popularity of K-Pop among adolescents may influence students’ attitudes, lifestyles, and religious discipline, thereby requiring character-based moral guidance. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that Islamic Religious Education teachers play a strategic role through instructional activities, role modeling, and direct moral guidance in internalizing Islamic values. Teachers encourage students to develop a selective and critical attitude toward popular culture, enabling them to balance entertainment with faith and moral responsibility. Students are guided to adopt positive values from K-Pop while avoiding behaviors that contradict Islamic teachings. This study highlights the importance of Islamic Religious Education teachers in strengthening students’ moral character within the context of cultural globalization

Abstract

The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), driven by social media use, particularly TikTok, has raised ethical concerns among students, including excessive dependence on digital media, an intensified desire for social recognition, and changes in attitudes, language use, and behavior within the school environment. These conditions present significant challenges to students’ ethical development in the digital era. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in shaping and internalizing students’ Islamic ethics amid the phenomenon of FOMO associated with TikTok use at SMA Darussalam Adijaya. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with IRE teachers and students, and documentation. The findings indicate that IRE teachers play a strategic role as educators, mentors, role models, and moral guides in shaping students’ ethical development. Islamic ethical values, including proper conduct in social media use, responsibility, moderation, and self-control, were integrated into classroom instruction and school religious activities. Ethical reinforcement was also implemented through advice, habituation, and persuasive approaches to encourage students to manage their TikTok use wisely and proportionately. The findings imply that strengthening the role of IRE teachers is essential as a moral safeguard for students in navigating the challenges of digital culture. Therefore, schools should continuously support the integration of Islamic values-based digital literacy into IRE instruction to foster students’ ethical awareness, self-regulation, and responsible engagement with social media.

Abstract

The low level of Qur'an reading ability among students remains a significant obstacle in achieving the objectives of Islamic Religious Education. Conventional classroom-centered instruction often limits teachers’ ability to provide individual guidance in correcting students’ reading errors. This study aims to describe the implementation of the sorogan method and to analyze the challenges encountered in improving Qur'an reading skills at the junior high school level. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the sorogan method is implemented through individual Qur'an reading sessions in front of the teacher, allowing immediate correction of reading mistakes. The application of this method contributes to improvements in reading fluency, accuracy in applying tajwid rules, and students’ self-confidence. The challenges identified include limited instructional time, differences in students’ ability levels, and varying degrees of learning discipline. Overall, the sorogan method proves to be an effective approach as it provides personal attention and direct feedback in the process of learning to read the Qur'an
