Abstract

Areca fruit slicing machine, with a capacity of 25 kg/hour, has a machine construction consisting of a drive mechanism, an inlet mechanism, an outlet mechanism and a slicing mechanism. The areca fruit slicing mechanism uses the main components such as the pressure handle, inlet, disc carrying the blade, and the slicing knife. At the same time, the drive mechanism uses supporting components such as intermediate shafts, reducers, gears, pulleys and belts. The manufacture of this machine uses machine tools, including lathes, grinding machines, cutting grinding machines, drill/drilling machines, milling machines and welding machines. At the same time, the components made include the machine frame, drive shaft, pressure handle, slicing blade, disc carrying blade, inlet, outlet, and casing cover. Time calculation can be done by planning the work steps of the manufacturing process for each component, including the procurement of materials, measurements, processes, time intervals (wasted time) and finishing. From the work results, it was obtained that the total time for making eight components and assembling was 1094.48 minutes (18.24 hours).

Abstract

This research focuses on developing a special LPG burner for the mCHPSE-012021 Stirling engine. The burner design was developed using CAD software and fabricated using machine tools and a welding process. Tests are carried out to verify how much the burner performance meets the desired specifications. The test results show that although the burner can reach the required high temperature, the thermal efficiency is still low, at 19.72%. This figure is far below the efficiency standard for household gas stoves, according to SNI 8660:2018. These findings highlight the urgency of improving burner design and efficiency to meet established standards, improving the mCHPSE-012021 Stirling engine's overall performance, and significantly increasing energy efficiency. These improvements are necessary to ensure optimal performance and efficiency in energy use in mCHPSE systems, underscoring the importance of developing more efficient and standards-compliant burner technology to support the use of Stirling engines in microenergy applications.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the performance of an LPG stove burner by assessing the flame temperature, fuel consumption, burner power, and thermal efficiency. The method employed is an experimental approach using a water boiling technique. The test materials used include 3 kg of LPG gas and water. The equipment utilized includes an SNI-compliant cooking stove, a pot, a digital scale, a rotameter flow meter, a gas regulator and hose, a stopwatch, a UT320D thermometer controller, an NPT stainless steel thermometer, and thermocouple sensor cables. The results show that during the first test with the stove set to the minimum setting, the average flame temperature at the burner reached 559.005 °C, with a maximum value of 589.2 °C. In the second test, with the stove set to the maximum setting, the average flame temperature reached 714.78 °C, with a maximum value of 769.3 °C. Fuel consumption was recorded at 0.391 kg in the first test and 0.545 kg in the second test. The burner power output was 1.754 kW in the first test and 2.225 kW in the second test. The thermal efficiency of the burner was recorded at 50.07% in the first test, increasing to 52.85% in the second test. The measurement and analysis of thermal efficiency and fuel consumption in this study can serve as a crucial guide in designing and developing burners for Stirling engines.

Abstract

The design and manufacturing of a heater for a Gamma-type Stirling engine on a small scale require careful consideration of key factors to ensure thermal efficiency and optimal performance. This study utilized AutoCAD software to design the heater precisely according to operational requirements. The heater functions as a critical component that transfers heat from the source to the working fluid positioned at the front of the Stirling engine. The manufacturing process employed carbon steel, chosen for its ability to withstand high temperatures and ensure even heat distribution. Test results demonstrated that the manufactured heater could achieve an average temperature of 484.50 °C, reflecting its stability and optimal heat distribution during operation. This stability is a crucial indicator of the heater's thermal efficiency and reliability in supporting the Stirling engine's performance. The study confirms that the applied design process, material selection, and manufacturing techniques successfully produced a heater that meets the design specifications. Thus, this research significantly contributes to developing heater technology for small-scale Stirling engine applications.

Abstract

This study aims to design and manufacture a displacer piston for a Gamma-type Stirling engine using steam pipe material due to its heat-resistant properties. The manufacturing process involved cutting, turning with a conventional lathe, and TIG welding. The final product dimensions were 65.75 mm in diameter, 60.20 mm in height, and 321.20 mm. Measurement results showed that the dimensional tolerances were within the design limits, and no leakage was found in the joints after visual inspection and basic functional testing. The study demonstrates that a simple process can produce a piston suitable for laboratory-scale applications.

Abstract

The palm oil industry in Indonesia generates a large amount of solid waste in the form of Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB). This waste is often underutilized and poses environmental challenges. The high lignocellulosic content of EFB offers significant potential for its development as a renewable biomass fuel. This study aims to evaluate the proximate composition and calorific value of EFB to assess its feasibility as a raw material for bio pellets. The experimental procedures included drying, shredding, grinding, and palletization, followed by laboratory testing based on SNI 8021:2014, SNI 7709:2019, and EN ISO 17225 standards. The results showed a moisture content of 7.85% and an ash content of 7.97%, both within acceptable limits, although the ash level was relatively high. Furthermore, EFB contained 24.20% carbohydrates and 37.99% crude fiber, which contributes to the structural stability of the bio pellets. The calorific value obtained was 1200 kcal/kg, which is considerably lower than values reported in previous studies (≥3500 kcal/kg). These findings highlight the potential of EFB as a renewable energy source while underscoring the need for process optimization to meet quality standards, with possible applications in small-scale and household energy generation.
