Abstract

Cables are a rapidly growing type of electronic waste. In the informal sector, metals are commonly extracted from cable waste by melting the insulating layer. It’s simple but generates toxic gases. A safer alternative involves using a wire stripper, that typically used in the cable industry and operated by skilled professionals. However, the informal sector, where most workers are women and daily laborers without specialized skills, requires tools tailored to their specific needs. Unfortunately, such tools are not yet available. This study aims to design a wire stripper suited for the informal sector using the Kansei Engineering Type I method. The identification of kansei words led to a design concept prioritizing safety, durability, and ease of use. Concept mapping produced a wire stripper design with dimensions of 35x30x30 cm, a maximum weight of 5 kg, and an iron body, featuring manually operated splitting and rolling mechanisms.

Abstract

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in broiler chicken farms is very important to prevent work accidents and diseases. This study used the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) method to identify potential hazards and assess their risks. Data were obtained through direct observation and interviews at the Alif Broiler Chicken Farm. The results showed that there were 16 potential hazards, with 10 categorized as low risk and 6 as medium risk. The main hazards include injuries due to chicken pecking, irritation from disinfectants, and muscle injuries due to lifting heavy loads. This study also identified the absence of standard operating procedures (SOPs) as one of the main causes of work accidents. To reduce the risk, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict implementation of SOPs are recommended. In conclusion, preventive hazard control through SOPs can improve work safety in broiler chicken farms.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the school motivation & the impact of education on An-Nadzir congregants who are pursuing undergraduate education. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The informants in this study were four people with two main respondents and two significant others. Research data collection was carried out on respondents through interview & documentation techniques. The results obtained by the researcher are that both respondents went to school because of external motivation, namely to prevent the parental restriction on them from believing in An-Nadzir Islam and participating in religious activities in the village. The education made the respondents experience the inner conflict of two opposing identities, namely the identity of Jamaah An-Nadzir and the identity of Educated Individuals. One respondent experienced a belief shifting that made him a Jamaah Bebas Individual. Both respondents became volunteer teachers at An-Nadzir schools as a new way of expressing An-Nadzir's Islamic beliefs. Through this role, the respondents intend to change the congregant’s textual views on islam and make them aware of the importance of education. The implication of this research is that pursuing education up to the undergraduate level can change An-Nadzir's Islamic beliefs.

Abstract

Consumers perception plays a noteworthy role in determining a menu. Without a doubt, the first thing that consumers will look at before deciding on their food choices is that menus and the menus are closely related to consumers perceptions. Therefore, lots of culinary businesses such as cafes and restaurants utilize strategy by creating unique food names in their menu list in order to attract more consumers. However, in opting for unique and appealing food names, the menu planning should consider the compatibility between the meaning and the food name. This study focuses on consumers perception on semantic opacity of J.CO Donuts & Coffee menu. The purpose of the study is to depict the perception of consumers towards semantic opacity menu name as well as the relation of food names, personal reference of food appearance, and meaning. This study applies a descriptive qualitative method by using an interview instrument and uses several theories, namely visual appearance of food by Kramer (1973) and a value triangle by Widyastuti & Astiandani (2020), an adaptation theory from Ogden & Richard (1946). The result shows that the meaning of food is indirectly related to food name since the meaning is not clearly stated to the food. Keywords: consumers perception, semantic opacity, food name, culinary business.

Abstract

This article has an objective to find out the kind of slang words that are used and to describe the translation procedures used in translating slang expressions in the transcript of this movie into Indonesian subtitles. In this study, the problem is what kind of slang words that were used in the movie and what strategy that is used for translating slang words into Indonesian. The data in this article is classified based on the theories of Allan and Burridge (2006) classification of slang, which classified slang into five categories: fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, and clipping.Translation strategy by Mona Baker was used to determine the strategies used for translating slang words, which include similar meanings and forms, similar meanings but dissimilar forms, paraphrase, and omission. This article is potentially intended to extend awareness of the techniques used by the subtitlers in interpreting the slang expressions in the subtitles of the film. and give information about what kind of slang that was used in this movie. Because the data was in the form of words or written language with the object subtitles that occur in the movie and are pronounced by the characters, this study used a qualitative method. This study employs a variety of methods to analyze data relevant to the problem at hand, with the first problem employing Allan and Burridge theory and the second employing Mona Baker theory. The findings revealed that the dominant slang that is used is flippant and mostly uses similar meanings but dissimilar form techniques to translate them. In general, this study has revealed that there are 3 types of slang that are found which are flippant, fresh and creative, and imitative. This study also revealed that there are three strategies to translate slang which are similar meaning and form, similar meaning but dissimilar form, and paraphrase.
