Abstract

Studies have highlighted the persistently low levels of mathematical creative thinking skills among students, emphasizing the need for innovative learning interventions. The STEM-PjBL model, which integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through project-based learning, offers a structured framework to enhance these skills by fostering innovative problem-solving. This study investigates the implementation of the STEM-PjBL model to improve students' mathematical creative thinking skills. A quantitative quasi-experimental approach with pre- and post-tests control group design was used, involving two purposively selected ninth-grade classes from a population of 298 students. Analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test showed a statistically significant improvement in mathematical creative thinking skills following the STEM-PjBL intervention (p < 0.05), with a normalized gain (g = 0.43), indicating that the results for the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. These findings suggest that the STEM-PjBL model is an effective strategy for improving creative thinking in mathematics education.

Abstract

The Minister of Education of the Republic of Indonesia introduced the Merdeka Curriculum in 2022, which emphasizes fostering self-regulated learners by adopting a student-centered approach tailored to their interests and needs. Self-regulated learning (SRL) is established as a core competency standard across educational levels, from primary to high school. Despite its significance, EFL teachers face challenges in promoting SRL in the classroom. This study aimed to identify these challenges using a multiple-case study method, which is well-suited for examining complex issues in real-world contexts. The findings revealed notable differences in students' self-regulation capabilities within the same classroom, making it difficult for teachers to manage groups with varying levels of SRL. Additionally, the lack of continuous training and professional development further hinders teachers’ ability to support SRL effectively. Another challenge identified was the prioritization of subject matter instruction over SRL due to the curriculum’s rigid content and pedagogical framework. These findings highlight the need for more flexible curriculum designs and enhanced teacher training programs to address the challenges of implementing SRL in EFL classrooms

Abstract

Global environmental crises, such as global warming, ecosystem degradation, and biodiversity loss, demonstrate the limitations of the anthropocentric approach that focuses on human interests in managing nature. As an alternative, biocentrism and ecocentrism offer a more inclusive view by emphasizing the intrinsic value of living things and the importance of maintaining the integrity of the ecosystem as a whole. This article uses a literature review method to explore the basic principles, differences, and relevance of these two approaches in dealing with the environmental crisis in the era of anthropocentrism. Through the identification, analysis, and synthesis of various current literatures, this article is expected to provide insight into how biocentrism and ecocentrism can contribute to more sustainable environmental policy updates. The results show that the implementation of biocentrism and ecocentrism views has been carried out in various countries. Indonesia, Bhutan, Costa Rica, and Nepal are some examples of countries that apply the biocentric view in formulating some of their policies. Ecuador, Australia, South Africa, and India are examples of countries that apply the ecocentric view in formulating some of their policies. This implementation replaces the anthropocentric view that has dominated environmental policy for centuries. This policy certainly supports the preservation, protection, and balance of the ecosystem.
