Abstract

Immunization is an action that provides immunity to individuals so that when exposed to a disease they will only experience mild illness or no pain. Immunizations are carried out mainly in children. Immunizations carried out on children are basic immunization and advanced immunization. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, immunization cannot run properly. This study aims to find out about the achievements of basic and follow-up immunizations between before, during, and the transition period of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Cempaka Putih sub-district. Research Methods: This research is an observational descriptive study in the work area of the Cempaka Putih District Health Center. The research sample in this study was a history of basic and follow-up immunizations from children living in the working area of the Cempaka Putih District Health Center. The results showed that the achievement of basic immunization and children under two in 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic) reached the target, then in 2020 (pandemic COVID-19) the achievement of basic immunization and children under two did not meet the target. In 2021 (COVID-19 pandemic) the achievement of basic and under-five immunizations reached the target, then in 2022 (COVID-19 transition period) the achievement of basic and under-five immunizations was achieved.

Abstract

Physical activity is essential for children, but unfortunately, it has decreased due to the development of technology. Sedentary behavior in children can cause growth disorders, such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. It can also affect child development, including emotional and behavioral disorders, decreased self-confidence, and symptoms of depression. This cross-sectional study was conducted in February-March 2024 in five Ciherang Elementary Schools. The study included 246 children who met the inclusion criteria. Physical activity was assessed using the IPAQ questionnaire, while emotional and behavioral disorders were assessed using the pediatric symptom checklist 17 (PSC-17) questionnaire. Their mean age was 11.83 years. The mean IPAQ score was 62.21 (16.45), and the mean PSC-17 score was 11 (2 – 27). The study found no significant correlation between physical activity and emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial disorders (internalization; p-value = 0.322, attention; p-value=0.515, and externalization; p-value=0.059, and total PSC17 score; p-value=0.944). However, a correlation was found between physical activity and externalizing behavior, with an r-correlation value of 0.121 and an R square of 0.016. Physical activity is associated with externalizing behavior, particularly in children between 10 and 14.

Abstract

The skin, the largest organ in the human body, provides protection against the external environment by covering the entire exterior surface of the body. Dermatoporosis is a skin fragility syndrome that develops as time progresses. Extrinsic and intrinsic factors contribute to skin aging, whereas extrinsic factors comprise nutrition, smoking, ionizing radiation, and solar exposure. In the elderly, the incidence of dermatoporosis is higher. In Europe, the incidence of dermatoporosis varies between 30 and 37%. Dermatoporosis is distinguished by the presence of slender, fragile, and shredded skin. This renders elderly individuals susceptible to complications related to hemorrhaging and infections, thereby exerting a detrimental influence on their overall health and well-being. It is anticipated that by engaging in this exercise, participants will develop a greater understanding of the significance of skin health maintenance.

Abstract

Sarcopenia is a progressive degenerative condition characterized by a decrease in muscle mass, strength, and musculoskeletal function, affecting the quality of life of the elderly. This activity aims to screen for vitamin D and educate the elderly about sarcopenia. Community service activities were carried out in nursing homes, involving education and screening of vitamin D levels. The results showed that the majority of respondents were women (79.6%) with an average age of 74.05 years. Most respondents experienced vitamin D deficiency, with 87.1% deficient, 3.2% adequate, and only 9.7% having good levels, with it being found that more women experienced vitamin D deficiency than men. Education regarding the importance of vitamin D and preventing sarcopenia is provided through outreach sessions and poster media. This activity emphasizes the importance of early detection and comprehensive intervention including physical exercise, proper nutritional intake, and lifestyle modification to prevent sarcopenia and improve the quality of life of the elderly. Community-based interventions are needed to address vitamin D deficiency and promote musculoskeletal health in the aging population.

Abstract

The health profile in 2011-2013 released 14 provinces in Indonesia as a region with a high leprosy burden and 19 other provinces with a low leprosy burden. Banten Province in 2011 found 500 new cases with an NCDR of 4.58% and an increase in 2012 and 2013 with an NCDR of 6.75% and 6.09%. Objectives: Reduce the prevalence of leprosy in the work area of the Teluknaga Health Center, Tangerang Regency. Methods: The study used two approaches, namely the data approach and the Blum paradigm approach. Problem identification is made through an epidemiological approach by observing and analysing data from the previous period. Results: The existing problems are the factors of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour of the community in dealing with leprosy, which is still poor and supported by a dense, arid, and poor ventilation environment. There are still people who have the attitude in the form of stigma that leprosy is a curse and do not agree that people affected by leprosy participate in joint activities. The behaviour of most people is still not good because they have never attended counselling about leprosy and have never conducted a leprosy detection check. In implementing the activities Plan, Do. Check and Action (PDCA). Conclusions: The existing problems are the factors of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour of the community in dealing with leprosy, which is still poor and supported by a dense, arid, and poor ventilation environment.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Uterine inertia could cause complications in labor. Knowing the risk factors for uterine inertia is important to since the Maternal Death Rate in Indonesia is relatively high. This study was aimed to determine whether maternal age, gestation, and parturition could be predictors of uterine inertia.  This is a cross-sectional study. Data collection was done at “C” General Hospital, West Java, with all pregnant women in their third trimester of pregnancy in January to December 2019 as samples. The statistical analysis used in this study are Independent T-test, Mann Whitney, ROC Curve test, and Pearson Chi-Square with Yates Correction to see statistical associations. Significant correlation was found between the variables of age ≤ 30 years, gestation ≤ 2 pregnancies, and parturition ≤ 2 births with uterine inertia (PR = 1.331; 1.332; 1.315 times, p-value = 0.001).  Uterine inertia is affected by risk factors of age ≤ 30 years, gestation ≤ 2 pregnancies, and parturition ≤ 2 births. The results can be used to help health workers in predicting the incidence of uterine inertia so that adequate responses can be provided. Keywords: Gestation, Maternal Age, Parturition, Predictor, Uterine Inertia

Abstract

Counseling activities and waist circumference screening in the context of early detection of obesity in male students aim to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining health and preventing obesity among male students. This activity was carried out using a combination approach between counseling and waist circumference screening. The counseling was conducted to provide a better understanding of the risk of obesity and the importance of measuring waist circumference as an indicator of health. Boys were given information about the negative impact of obesity on physical and psychological health, as well as the importance of a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. In addition to counseling, this activity also involves screening waist circumference as a method for early detection of the risk of obesity. Boys' waist circumference was measured using a measuring tape, and the measurement results were compared with a predetermined reference standard. This helps identify students who are in the waist circumference range who are at risk and require further follow-up in obesity prevention and management. The results of this activity show that male students need to understand the importance of maintaining health and managing their weight well. Waist circumference screening provides useful information in evaluating the risk of obesity in male students. In efforts to prevent and control obesity, collaboration between families, educators and medical personnel is very important to provide the necessary support, understanding and guidance

Abstract

Pruritus, or itching, is a common symptom in seniors that has a significant impact on their quality of life. Primary skin disorders such as xerosis, atopic dermatitis, and scabies, as well as systemic diseases such as cancer, chronic renal failure, cholestasis, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, iron deficiency anemia, and certain medications, can cause this condition. Chronic pruritus, which is common in individuals over 60 years of age, can cause discomfort, sleep disturbances, and psychological stress. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology to screen for pruritus intensity in the elderly in St. Anna. One individual (2.4%) reported mild pruritus, while 12 individuals (29.3%) reported severe pruritus. Routine assessment using the 12-PSS provides important information for managing pruritus in the elderly, meeting clinical and research needs, and improving patient care and quality of life.

Abstract

This comprehensive review examines the complex human immune response to malaria, a significant global health challenge caused by Plasmodium parasites. The innate and adaptive immune systems play pivotal roles in defending against malaria, with mechanisms involving various immune cells like dendritic cells, natural killer cells, eosinophils, basophils, T cells, and B cells. These cells operate in a dynamic interaction, recognizing and responding to the parasite at different stages of its life cycle. Our review methodologically analyzed recent studies and literature on the immune response to malaria, focusing on the roles of different immune cells and the production of cytokines and antibodies. We also explored the epidemiology of malaria, with particular attention to regions like Indonesia, where climate, geography, and socio-economic factors influence transmission dynamics. The findings highlight the innate immune system's crucial role in early pathogen detection and response, particularly through PAMPs recognition by PRRs such as TLRs and scavenger receptors. Additionally, the adaptive immune response's complexity, including anti-sporozoite antibodies and T cell immunity, is emphasized, particularly in recognizing parasite-exported antigens and developing memory responses for long-term immunity. The immune response's intricacy, coupled with the challenges in vaccine and therapy development due to the parasite's complex life cycle and varying epidemiological patterns, underscores the need for continued research and innovation in malaria immunology and public health strategies. This review contributes to a deeper understanding of the immune mechanisms against malaria and the ongoing efforts to control and eradicate this pervasive disease.
