Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology demands a more innovative and data-driven research paradigm, yet the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Decision Support Systems (DSS) in academic environments remains hindered by digital literacy gaps and the dominance of subjective manual methods. This community engagement program aims to introduce and strengthen participants’ understanding of the synergy between AI and DSS in supporting sustainable research in the era of digital transformation. The program employed a participatory approach through the Quadruple Helix model involving 359 participants consisting of lecturers, researchers, and practitioners. Methods included interactive lectures, technical mentoring on hybrid intelligence (integration of Machine Learning and Multi-Criteria Decision Making), and collaborative discussions via the Zoom platform. The results indicate a 35.6% improvement in participants' digital literacy, with the mean score increasing from 62.5 to 84.8. Furthermore, the technical readiness survey yielded a high score of 4.35 on a Likert scale, with participants successfully identifying practical AI–DSS applications in smart agriculture and MSME development. This program has successfully established an initial foundation for an adaptive and inclusive research ecosystem.

Abstract

Background: Stroke remains a major cause of disability worldwide, often resulting in impaired upper limb function and decreased hand muscle strength that limit independence in daily activities. Simple, structured rehabilitation strategies such as range-of-motion (ROM) exercises using a rubber ball may provide practical and cost-effective support for motor recovery, yet evidence regarding their specific impact on hand muscle strength in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of rubber ball gripping range-of-motion exercise on hand muscle strength in patients with non-hemorrhagic stroke. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design conducted in the Stroke Center inpatient ward of RSUD Labuang Baji Makassar. A total of 21 patients with non-hemorrhagic stroke who experienced upper extremity weakness were recruited using consecutive sampling based on predefined inclusion criteria. Hand muscle strength was measured using the manual muscle testing scale before intervention and daily after implementation. The intervention consisted of rubber ball gripping ROM exercise performed twice daily for six consecutive days as part of evidence-based nursing practice. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired statistical testing with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The mean hand muscle strength score increased from 3.10 ± 0.301 before intervention to 4.10 ± 0.301 after six days of exercise. Progressive improvement was observed beginning on the third day of intervention, with statistically significant differences between pre- and post-intervention measurements (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that repetitive ROM rubber ball gripping exercise contributed to clinically meaningful improvement in upper limb muscle strength among non-hemorrhagic stroke patients. Conclusion: Rubber ball gripping range-of-motion exercise demonstrated significant effectiveness in improving hand muscle strength in patients with non-hemorrhagic stroke.

Abstract

This article presents a theory-driven literature review of the Free Nutritious Meals Program or Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) through the lens of urban bias theory, structuring the analysis into four distinct pillars: economic opportunity, infrastructural constraints, political risk, and fiscal trade-offs. It examines whether the policy can reduce rural–urban disparities or reinforce the structural rural dependence on the central government. By systematically searching and synthesizing 22 core scientific publications from 2024 to April 2026 via the conceptual approaches of Snyder (2019) and van der Waldt (2021), guided by explicit inclusion and exclusion criteria, this review assesses the political‒economic implications of the MBG. The synthesis indicates that, based on policy projections and early modeling, MBG has the potential to serve as a rural economic stimulus through increased demand for local food, improvement in farmers’ terms of trade, and job creation within village-based food supply chains. Economic multiplier effects also emerge through household income redistribution and strengthening local agricultural product markets. However, the findings also reveal several structural constraints that may reinforce these biases. Documented logistical infrastructure limitations in 3T regions (disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas), such as the absence of cold chains and adequate food transportation access, create a reasonable inference that urban vendors will likely dominate food procurement in these areas. Furthermore, the centralized policy design increases the risk of local elite political patronage, the marginalization of microeconomic actors such as school cafeteria vendors, and potential budget leakage. From a fiscal perspective, the large allocation for the MBG creates pressure on financing sustainability and raises the risk of budget substitution away from productive rural sectors. This study concludes that MBG can become an effective instrument for reducing urban bias only if accompanied by governance decentralization, investment in rural logistics infrastructure, procurement transparency, and the integration of local economic actors. As a normative warning, without such reforms, the MBG risks becoming a consumptive policy that reinforces spatial inequality and rural dependence on the central government for funding.
