Abstract

This study explores the integration of religious organizations and spirituality with scientific approaches to foster global peace and address contemporary challenges. It highlights the shared values of interconnectedness and compassion within both domains, emphasizing the potential for collaboration in addressing urgent issues such as climate change, social justice, and mental health. The findings reveal that interdisciplinary initiatives, such as peace education programs that blend scientific knowledge with spiritual teachings, can effectively promote empathy and understanding among diverse communities. Furthermore, the study discusses the role of sustainable development, where religious organizations can advocate for ecological stewardship, thus bridging the gap between faith-based initiatives and scientific research. Technological advancements, particularly in digital communication, present new opportunities for disseminating messages of peace and facilitating interfaith dialogue. Recommendations include fostering collaboration between religious leaders and scientists, supporting community-based initiatives in science and spirituality, and promoting research that explores their intersections. Ultimately, this research underscores the importance of an integrated approach that combines scientific inquiry with spiritual values to address the root causes of conflict and build a more harmonious future.

Abstract

The spread of fake news during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, as in many other countries, had significant effects, exacerbating the challenges faced by public health authorities, governments, and citizens. In Nigerian context, social media is a means of keeping up with occurrences all over the globe and is used to shed light as regards the Nigerian situation, the ability to sieve authentic information from an avalanche of half-truths and false information available on social media networks is a challenge in Nigeria. In Nigeria, tackling this issue effectively during the pandemic was critical to improving public health outcomes and societal trust. The paper argues that social media has become an essential part of human life as it allows remote creation of contents for the purpose of entertainment and dissemination of information, making information sharing easier and faster in Nigeria and the world at large. The paper concludes that addressing fake news requires a combination of education, regulation, and collaboration between governments, civil society, and media organizations. Thus, the outbreak of Covid-19 in Nigeria spurred a digitalized reaction with citizen surfing about Covid-19 content to gather information about the virus. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Twitter, appeared to be among the prominent platforms consulted by Nigerians to create awareness on Covid-19 in the country.

Abstract

The advent of social networks such as Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, among others, has revolutionized communications. The power of social media messages rests on its ability to instantly and simultaneously reach a wide, diverse audience, and transforming social life. While the public has overtime become accustomed to the regulation of conventional media like the Radio, TV and Print establishments by government regulatory agencies, the idea of regulating social media, a space which many users consider to be the major avenue to air their views, is one that has generated mixed feelings. As such the Nigerian government has taken practical steps to regulate the activities of social media platforms including banning Twitter usage in Nigeria for a certain period. This study therefore, evaluated users’ perception of President Buhari’s #Twitterban among users in Anambra State. The study was anchored on Adaptive Structuration Theory and Public Sphere theory as its theoretical underpinnings. The study adopted survey method in carrying out the research with a sample size of 400 drawn from a population of 1,619,224 which was derived using the Taro Yamane’s formula. The Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The study found that the respondents have a negative perception about the #Twitter Ban by President Buhari as they stated that it was wrong to ban Twitter Usage in Nigeria and their freedom of speech were affected by the #Twitter Ban by President Buhari as they could not access Twitter to air their views, connect with friends to share opinion and to use other social media platforms.

Abstract

This study explores the role of teacher support, collaboration, and group discussions in enhancing students' critical thinking skills during project-based learning (PBL). Through qualitative analysis, the study examines students' perceptions of the additional support provided by teachers, suggestions for improving PBL to foster critical thinking, and the challenges faced during the project. Results indicate that teachers' involvement as facilitators is crucial for guiding students through complex tasks and ensuring they remain on track. Students reported a perceived improvement in their critical thinking skills, attributing it to the inquiry-based nature of PBL that encouraged deep engagement with the subject matter. However, several challenges emerged, including time constraints, difficulties with resource access, and issues related to group dynamics, such as coordination and leadership. Suggestions for improvement emphasized the need for clearer project guidelines, more diverse resources, and a structured approach to problem-solving. The study also highlights the essential role of teachers not just as instructors but as mentors, guiding students' learning while encouraging collaboration and communication within groups. Overall, PBL was found to foster high levels of student engagement, motivation, and active participation, contributing to the development of critical thinking. However, overcoming logistical and interpersonal challenges is essential to fully realizing the benefits of PBL in enhancing students' cognitive and collaborative skills.

Abstract

Injection drug abuse has become a major public health problem, the prevalence of which has increased significantly in the last decade. There are approximately 15.6 million people who inject drugs (PWID) worldwide and this may be an underestimate of the real problem as the use of injection drugs is an illegal and stigmatized practice, making data collection challenging. The study employed a cross-sectional design to assess drug abuse via injection and primary data was collected through structured interviews and self-administered questionnaires. Quantitative data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science, employing descriptive statistics to identify patterns and associations while the qualitative data were transcribed and analyzed thematically to understand underlying behaviors and motivations. The cognitive-affective-pharmacogenic control theory was employed. Based on the findings, most of the respondents inject drugs because it provides a stronger high compare to other methods. The findings revealed that vein damage is the most common effect found among the people of high incidence of different drug uses through the injection method in Maiduguri Local Government Area of Borno State. Similarly, most of the respondents inject synthetic opioids and morphine. Also, most of the drug users are not receiving any support or treatment for drug addiction. The study concludes that most of the respondents are facing the problem of stigma and discrimination. Based on the findings, the study recommends that there should be educational outreach focused on sensitising and educating young people about the risks of drug use and promotes life skills through schools and community initiatives.
