Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the influence of community participation, community trust, and village apparatus accountability on the effectiveness of village fund management. Using a quantitative approach with a causal associative method, data were collected from 98 respondents in Kuin Besar Village and Kuin Kecil Village, Banjar Regency, through a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Squares (PLS). The results show that both partially and simultaneously, the three independent variables have a positive and significant effect on the effectiveness of village fund management. Village apparatus accountability was found to be the variable with the most dominant influence, confirming Agency Theory in minimizing information asymmetry. Collectively, the contribution of participation, trust, and accountability to the variance in village fund management effectiveness is 68.4%. These findings confirm that the effectiveness of the budget not only depends on an accountable administrative system but also requires active citizen involvement and a strong moral relationship between the village government and the community. It is recommended that the village government enhance the digitalization of accountability and strengthen integrity through an integrity pact to maintain public trust.

Abstract

Purpose – Various studies have explored religious moderation in Indonesian higher education in some aspects. However, these studies remain limited by the lack of an overview capturing the field’s overall development in terms of implementation and evaluation. Therefore, this study aims to map the implementation of religious moderation across Islamic and general Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), classifying the strategies employed and evaluations in diverse institutional contexts. Design/methods/approach – A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted, examining high-quality Scopus-indexed articles published between 2019 and 2025 using the Watase Uake software. Articles were systematically screened using standard exclusion and inclusion criteria, with selected studies subjected to thematic analysis. Findings – 21 articles were selected from an initial pool of 217 studies. These studies covered 41 HEIs, comprising 27 Islamic and 14 general HEIs. Five main strategies for promoting religious moderation were identified: academic integration, the optimization of the House of Religious Moderation (RMB), Pesantren, Madrasah Diniyah, and institutional policy. These strategies were evaluated in the academic literature across multiple dimensions, focusing on student, lecturer, approach, content, and comparative analysis. Research implications/limitations – This study is limited by the lack of cross-institutional comparison of strategies and the absence of real-time data for evaluating religious moderation practices. Future research should address these gaps through empirical and comparative studies. Originality/value – The study provides practical guidance for HEIs that have not yet optimally implemented religious moderation, and for those seeking to enhance or expand their current practices. It highlights the importance of integrating both traditional and contemporary mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of moderation in HEI.

Abstract

This article discusses cross-disciplinary integration and its application in thematic learning as a holistic approach to shaping a generation that is knowledgeable, faithful, and moral. The dichotomy between religious and general knowledge that is still apparent in the education system has caused an imbalance in the development of students' rational and spiritual abilities. Therefore, Islamic education seeks to restore the epistemological unity between revelation and reason, faith and knowledge, and the spiritual and rational dimensions through an integrative approach in thematic learning. This study uses a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, which focuses on the analysis of various related literature. The results of this discussion show that cross-disciplinary integration is the foundation for uniting revelation and reason in the development of Islamic learning models. On the other hand, thematic learning becomes a means of applying the concept of integration by combining various disciplines into themes that are relevant to the lives of students. The result of the collaboration between scientific integration and thematic learning is the creation of an Islamic education model that not only strengthens cognitive aspects but also fosters spiritual, moral, and social character. Thus, this collaboration is a strategic step towards realizing holistic, humanistic, and transformative Islamic education to respond to the challenges of the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of teacher performance and school environment on the implementation of the Curriculum Merdeka at SMA Negeri 5 Palembang. A quantitative approach with a survey method was employed. The sample consisted of 68 teachers selected purposively. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. Findings revealed that: (1) teacher performance significantly influences Curriculum Merdeka implementation (p = 0.000 < 0.05) with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.646; (2) school environment significantly influences curriculum implementation (p = 0.000 < 0.05) with R² of 0.586; and (3) simultaneously, both variables significantly affect implementation (p = 0.000 < 0.05) with R² of 0.723, indicating that 72.3% of the variance in curriculum implementation is explained by teacher performance and school environment together. The research provides early empirical validation of key determinants specifically influencing the rollout of Indonesia's new Curriculum Merdeka policy, examining both human and contextual factors within a localized school setting. Schools should prioritize continuous teacher professional development and cultivate supportive physical and psychosocial environments to ensure effective curriculum implementation aligned with policy objectives. The study contributes evidence-based insights to educational policy discourse, demonstrating that successful curriculum reform requires simultaneous investment in teacher quality and conducive institutional conditions.

Abstract

This case study examines the implementation of integrative holistic early childhood education (IH-ECE) management at a ‘Satu Atap’ kindergarten in suburban Indonesia, where limited resources and farming community characteristics create unique implementation challenges. Drawing on in-depth interviews with the principal and teachers, participatory observation, and document analysis, we analyze how the institution operationalizes the four management functions (planning, organizing, actuating, controlling) within the constraints of high teacher-student ratios (1:20), dual educator roles, and limited technology. Findings reveal that despite resource limitations, the institution demonstrates best practices including child-centered planning, center-based environmental organization, and continuous supervision through reflective practice. However, implementation gaps exist between principal and teacher perspectives, and external stakeholder involvement in evaluation remains limited. Through SWOT analysis, we identify six priority strategies: human resource capacity strengthening, resource optimization, technology utilization, partnership strengthening, monitoring and evaluation system development, and learning organization cultivation. The study contributes to understanding how IH-ECE principles translate into practice in resource-constrained settings and offers implications for policy and practice in similar contexts across the Global South.

Abstract

This study looks at how Nurcholish Madjid's intellectualism and Imam Al-Ghazali's moral philosophy have been incorporated into the evolution of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the modern day. The problem brought up is the Islamic educational system's duality between morality and reason, which results in a poor balance between the development of spiritual character and critical thinking abilities. The goal of this research is to offer an integration model between tazkiyat al-nafs (soul purification) and the intellectualism of tauhidi (reason based on divine principles). A literature study is carried out using a qualitative method by examining the original and secondary works of both figures as well as pertinent research findings. The results show that Al-Ghazali emphasizes the formation of morality through heart purification. The results show that although Al-Ghazali emphasizes the formation of morality through heart purification, Nurcholish Madjid emphasizes the importance of freedom of thought within the context of tauhid. When the two are combined, an Islamic educational paradigm is created that strikes a balance between faith and knowledge, ethics and logic, and dhikr and fikir. This methodology offers an innovative approach to the revitalization of holistic and transformative PAI and helps create a generation of Muslims who are morally upright, logical, and able to deal with contemporary issues.

Abstract

The textile industry releases substantial amounts of azo dyes, including Reactive Black 5 (RB5), which persist in the environment due to their stable chemical structures and toxic properties. White-rot fungi-based biological treatment serves as an environmentally friendly and affordable method for removing dyes from water through the production of ligninolytic enzymes, including laccases. The research assesses Trametes sp. UM 12's decolourisation ability compared to Phanerochaete chrysosporium for RB 5 decolourisation efficiency. The research examined the effects of pH, temperature, agitation speed, and initial RB5 concentration on fungal decolourisation. The optimal removal of Trametes sp. was achieved at pH 5 and 30–35°C with 150 rpm agitation, resulting in more than 95% colour removal within 48–72 hours, and it reached 99.7% decolourization after 96 hours at 100 mg/L RB5. The process removed 98.7% and 96.8% of the dye at 100 mg/L and 250 mg/L after 120 hours, but only 52.1% and 31.8% at 500 mg/L and 1000 mg/L, respectively. The process shows substrate inhibition and enzyme saturation at high pollutant concentrations. The research shows Trametes sp. UM 12 outstanding performance, making it suitable for treating wastewater in tropical environments.

Abstract

The discussion of nafs (desire) is not being easy, since it is one of abstract activator of human action. Since then there are lots of attention given by Muslim scholars or scientists on the relationship between nafs and human being. Imam Al-Ghazali, the 12th century outstanding ulama who had considerable works on Islam and philosophy, attempted to elaborate the concept of nafs, and divided it into three dimensions: al-muthmainnah, al-lawwâmah, and al-ammârah. Al-Ghazali inserted al-muthamainnah into the good desire (al-mahmûdah), while al-lawwâmah and al-ammârah into the bad desire (al-su’). He classified these nafs into certain criterion, and this study attempts to critically analyze this classification and to throughly reflect it under some considerations. In some extents, Al-Ghazali’s conception of nafs should be criticized and reinterpreted in the contemporary era.
