Abstract

The principle of ex aequo et bono occupies a unique position within Indonesia’s legal landscape: although not expressly codified, it is increasingly invoked by judges to pursue substantive justice in employment termination disputes. This judicial practice, however, raises concerns regarding legal certainty and the boundaries of judicial authority, especially when decisions extend beyond the parties’ claims and risk violating the ultra petita doctrine. This article examines the application of ex aequo et bono in Indonesian labor courts through a normative legal analysis, using both comparative and conceptual approaches. A focal point of the study is Supreme Court Decision No. 223 K/Pdt.Sus-PHI/2017, in which the court terminated an employment relationship despite neither party explicitly requesting such relief. By comparing Indonesia’s judicial approach with the Netherlands, where ex aequo et bono is permitted exclusively within arbitration and only with explicit party consent. This article highlights the structural safeguards embedded in Dutch law that preserve both fairness and legal certainty. The results show that Indonesia’s unregulated use of ex aequo et bono creates inconsistencies and risks judicial overreach, underscoring the urgent need for statutory guidance. This study argues that incorporating explicit party consent and clearer procedural boundaries into Indonesia’s labor dispute resolution framework would better harmonize equity-based reasoning with the principles of legal certainty and judicial accountability.

Abstract

Young coconut fibers, often found as waste, contain tannin and anthocyanin compounds that can produce various natural colors, so they can be used as organic dyes. The research method used was an experiment with a focus on testing silk thread dyeing using young coconut fiber extract dissolved in rice field water. This study aims to explore and develop the use of young coconut fibers as a source of environmentally friendly natural dyes. The results showed that young coconut fibers have the potential as organic dyes. Young coconut fiber extract with fermented rice field water solvents produced three color variations depending on the fixator used: brownish black (ferrous sulfate), gray (alum), and brown (lime). Structural tests using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) proved that the dyeing process did not change the cross-sectional shape of the silk thread. In terms of tensile strength, yarn with alum fixation had the highest strength compared to native yarn, ferrous sulfate fixation, and lime fixation. Elongation tests showed the highest elasticity in yarn with alum fixation, followed by lime, ferrous sulfate, and native yarn. The color fastness test against washing at a temperature of 40°C showed a fairly good level of fastness for organic dyes from young coconut fiber

Abstract

This study explores ethnoscientific practices surrounding Lansano (Pterocarpus indicus Willd.), a medicinal plant traditionally used in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Qualitative ethnographic methods, including direct observation and semi-structured interviews, were used with 50 respondents from various regions, including Padang, Pariaman, Solok, Sijunjung, Pasaman, Padang Panjang, and Pesisir Selatan. Participants included local healers, herbal practitioners, and community members known to use Lansano for medicinal purposes. This study employed a quantitative ethnobotanical approach with two main parameters: Use Value (UV) and Informant Consensus Factor (ICF). This study revealed a significant relationship between traditional practices and scientific evidence in the use of Lansano as an herbal medicine. This study is the first step in integrating Lansano ethnobotanical practices with bioactive data for the development of local culture-based phytopharmaceuticals. Use Value (UV) analysis showed that the leaves had the highest utilization value (UV = 0.70), followed by the roots (0.44), sap (0.36), and stems (0.30). Meanwhile, Informant Consensus Factor (ICF) analysis showed a complete consensus (ICF = 1.00) among informants regarding the use of lansano for various ailments, with the highest frequency of use for mouth ulcers, followed by diarrhea, menstrual pain, and burns. These results confirm that lansano has high ethnopharmacological value and is widely believed to be a primary traditional medicine in West Sumatra.

Abstract

Coastal erosion poses a serious threat to the coastal areas of Padang City, West Sumatra. The role of mangroves as natural protectors of the coast from erosion and tidal flooding is increasingly being eroded due to land conversion and human activities. This study aims to examine the relationship between mangrove damage and the level of erosion in several coastal areas of Padang and to evaluate the mitigation efforts that have been carried out. The research methods used were field surveys, remote sensing with satellite imagery, and analysis of coastal geomorphological data using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). The results of the study showed an increase in erosion in areas experiencing mangrove degradation, while areas with dense mangroves tended to experience accretion. The decline in mangrove area and quality is exacerbated by the conversion of areas into fish ponds and coastal development activities. Erosion mitigation needs to be carried out through mangrove rehabilitation and a participatory approach involving the community to maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem and environmental resilience of the Padang City coast.

Abstract

Abstract

Red lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. crispa) cultivated using hydroponic systems requires precise nutrient management to optimize growth. Internet of Things (IoT)-based sensors, particularly pH and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) sensors, enable real-time automatic regulation of nutrient solutions. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of IoT-based nutrient automation using pH and TDS sensors combined with a 50% AB Mix and 50% nano gamal leaf POC formulation on the growth of red lettuce. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test at the 5% significance level. The results showed that all growth parameters in the sensor-based system were significantly higher than those in the manual system (p < 0.05). The automated system improved nutrient balance, increased nutrient absorption efficiency, and maintained stable pH and TDS values throughout the growth period. This study demonstrates that IoT-based nutrient automation effectively enhances hydroponic red lettuce productivity and supports sustainable agricultural practices through efficient resource management. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences between treatments, indicating that IoT technology improves the efficiency and productivity of hydroponic systems by providing real-time nutrient supply. This research strengthens the potential application of IoT technology in sustainable agriculture and contributes to improved production efficiency and resource savings.
